  1. But how long does that take? I love the 3-4, but I'm not a proponent of forcing a system on a team that doesn't have players for it. We have maybe 2-3 guys in our front seven who might work out. Just about everybody else is a round hole in a square peg.
  2. Unless we have CMU alumi on the board I know I've watched him more then anybody. In person twice, on tv about 7 or 8 times. I think he's a good college player, but I never saw him as a NFL QB prospect.
  3. zero chance at having a good defense for at least a couple of seasons + high likelihood of having a below average offense = new coach again 3 years from now.......Yippie I love the 3-4, but you would be hard pressed to find a team in the NFL set up worse to run it then us. Glad so many got what they wanted..sarcasm on
  4. The guys played how many straight games? I certainly don't question his heart. But for those in shock, let me say, how do you think most players look after these games? I remember in just high school my hand sandwiched between two helmets, swelling like something out of a science fiction. Not broke, so I played. I had a teacher ask me if I was having problems a home because my forearms were constantly black, swollen, and lumpy. These guys might pop right up after a big hit but we usually never see the damage it leaves behind. At that level it has to be very severe, and if it ain't broke, most players will play threw it. I really can't imagine what these guys body's look like after a games over.
  5. No BM but he really mastered the Buffalo winds.
  6. This is my logic progression on being with the Bills. 1. Damn it's cold, how many times will I have to look like a hard ass and not wear sleeves. 2. I have a lot of money now, the ladies love the money, gotta be better places in the country to take advantage of that. 3. Damn it's cold, how many times will I have to look like a hard ass and not wear sleeves. 4. Player signs 5. Jesus, I can't even have an unusual bowel movement without a newspaper running a story on it. 6. I'm an attention whore so number 5 can't be to bad. 7. First game, Jesus these fans are at a whole different level of craziness here. It's almost like playing in college. 8. I played like crap, now they want to draw an quarter me. 9. I played lights out, now they want to idealize me. 10. Depends on 8 and 9, if it's 8 like many recent players I can't think of a worse place to be. If it's 9, like the mid nineties guys, I can't think of a better place to be. For the purposes of this pole I think 1-3 apply most, but once players get here the future and happiness here all depends on 9 and 10. We treat our good players like no fans in the sport, and those guys tend to love it here. Likewise, we make things pretty damn hard for those who under perform (sure many other fans do, but football is not life for many other fans like it is here). Unfortunately a lot more of 8 is happening now then it used to. Which really makes 1 and 2 more relevant then it should be. Winning will change all that.
  7. Are you kidding? Lee Evans can't be mentioned in the same breath as Beebe? Beebe was a poor mans deep threat. Remarkably high character. But not on the same ability level as Lee (speed yes, everything else no). Lee has ten times the body control, hands, and route running then Beebe ever had (not a better route runner then Tasker, as most Bills from those teams claimed him to be unrecoverable. Something that only showed itself on certain occasions in actual games) I'll give you Reed, but Reed couldn't be a more opposite a player then Lee is. He lived for those deep crossing pattens. He lived for contact, that's just who he was. It would e like comparing Jerome Bettis and Chris Johnson. Lofton is actually very much like Evans besides the size and experience he had (at his time with the Bills). Like Lee a deep ball guy who was amongst the league leaders in yards a reception during his time. Not an over the middle guy (I guess that makes him soft in your eyes, but neither have games that translated to being over the middle guys like Reed) One major thing left out here is who was throwing those guys the passes. In fact that's a REALLY major thing you left out especially when looking at Evans. The receivers you mentioned had the best Bills QB of all time throwing the passes. Lee only has had good success with a strong arm guy throwing the ball in Losman. Right now he just stretches the field to much for our noodle arms to really have a chance at using his skills effectively. I would argue Lofton would be useless to this current cast of characters, Reed greatly diminished. Evans attitude is fine with me. He wants to win. He extended, and now he's part of the situation I just described. Obviously less then ideal for him. I'll go as far to say it's downright horrible for him right now. I feel his attitude is in a good enough place to respond well if we give him more of a chance to do so. Not to unreasonable IMO.
  8. Even if he is referring to SBXXV I don't have a problem with the comments. The defense had some stars, they played very well at times, but an argument could be made that they cost us the super bowl. If we tackled even like a JV team that day it wouldn't have come down to a FG. Grant it, Anderson was a moving truck, Meggett was like a slipper fish, but the Bills defense looked like they were blind folded tackling pinatas. Have we really become this hypersensitive?....never mind.
  9. ughh....if we draft this guy I'm going to be so miserable.
  10. Thanks Byrds, one out of about a dozen. I would like to see a Vet brought in. If Trent wins the battle great, good for him. But if not and he gets a chance to play from injury he might stay awhile. I see him with potential to be far better then Sanchez. Of course I'm not predicting it because having any QB actually work out seems impossible with this team.
  11. Sounds like a confused player. My whole point is I think he can pick this up, what we've watched is no a sign of what he could be. If he can pick up the reads, be confident, he has some other very good things going for him.
  12. You think you know that Trent is a conservative QB. The fact is we have no idea what reasons made him conservative. Could have it been coaching? Could have it been experience? Could it have been talent? Sure it could just be him, but a lot of young players have a similar career path. Impossible to tell if 2010 Trent will be like anything we've seen before. Last stand on the durability question... I challenge you to show even 2 or 3 players that played college 2005/2006 and pro's during Trent's years. Divide pass attempts by sacks, if any QB in this stretch was sacked at a higher % I would be shocked, and this is with a guy who checks down and has a lightning release. Peyton Manning doesn't stay healthy because of mutant genetics (could be possible with him), it's cause he doesn't take many hits.
  13. Balls? Really.....? Why don't we get Chuck Norris at QB. To have balls you need to know exactly what will happen on a play. To have balls without that is idiocy. Like most QB's with his experience he wasn't at that point yet. As for injury, well when your a human pinata, in large part to outside circumstances, that does effect that. If things turn around, he won't get hit as often. He won't get injured as often. I'm surprised in many of these seasons how he lasted as long as he did college/pro.
  14. Quarterback progression comes in so many forms. Some guys like Brady or Roth-burger might experience success right away and grow from then on. Other guys like Kerry Collins or Rich Gannon may take half a career for the light to turn on. I researched the data and one of the most prevalent turn around years for the better QB’s has been year four. Dozens of recent players have experienced more INT’s then TD’s, low completion%, poor yards a completion….Then year four hits, the numbers turn around and progression is shown throughout the rest of the career. Clearly a QB can look like two different people during even normal career progressions. Some things about Trent I think to be true 1. Trent is a smart person. He has a high degree of intelligence for an NFL QB 2. Trent has been hit a ton with Stanford and Buffalo 3. Trent has a very quick release 4. Trent chooses to check down at a very high percentage 6. Trent has shown he can be accurate 7. Trent has shown he can lead 4th quarter comebacks 7. Trent has not shown he's capable of generating a lot of points 8. Trent has had poor direction and coaching, if nothing else from lack of consistency 9. Trent has regressed 10. Trent gets Injured Trent is a smart guy, he picked up the system quickly. He was a blank slate. Being hit a ton at Stanford he developed one of the quickest releases in football. In that situation, his senior year, Stanford took a NCAA worst 50 sacks. So he also understood the value of checking it down. As a smart player he came in the NFL with the not to lose mentality any Rookie QB should have. He seemed to know his role precisely. Our sack rates dropped dramatically when he replaced JP. He moved the chains with short accurate throws, and yes, plenty of check downs. He even gave us actual hope by making big time NFL throws against Washington and Jacksonville. As time passed people wondered, why can't we score?????? It's part of the maturation of most quarterbacks to have some early success. The hard part is adjusting once the defensive coordinators have adjusted to you. At one point Trent knew his role precisely, now his role must change to create more down field opportunities. These changes were to be facilitated by the same coaching staff vilified on this board. Regardless of coaching, history shows this part of the transition to be the most difficult for any QB. If he makes it past this stage, he's a sure fire NFL QB. Not easy as we all know. What transpired was a major regression. Once decisive Trent now looked confused. He was confused before this year started, but after the changes he must have been brain mush. No confidence ensued, it created interceptions, accuracy problems, poor decisions. The line was horrid, + his confusion = higher sack rates. All this eventually leading him back to a disgusting combination or the previously mentioned problems and his safety blanket, the check down. He was then injured and now in most fans eyes is a lost cause. I don't know how Trent will do, the odds are far stacked against any QB, for Bills QB's....well... But the point is the Trent we've watched and puked over is nowhere near the Trent he actually is. Last year he was a beaten, confused QB, but he is still the same QB that many thought was the answer. This is clearly the year the numbers show as the breakthrough year for QB. It wouldn't shock me one bit to see Trent surprise a lot of people on this board.
  15. he played on some of the least talented Stanford teams the last 20 years. Was hit more then a pinata. Was actually healthy for what he dealt with. But let's not let facts get in the way of another not very well thought out rant by ICE.
  16. I think his article shows an egocentric outlook and lack of empathy. Being born in Michigan or in his case California, It's easy to look at other areas and say that's a stupid place to live. But the truth is people tend to stay in the area they were born in and certainly within the continent/country they were born in. The poorer the country, the further other countries are, the more this is true. I don't pretend to know the history of Haiti or why they have such high poverty levels. I imagine if they had the option to build wood/metal framed houses and use reinforced concrete they probably would have used it. Perhaps the government should have done more, perhaps the people should have done more. I don't know how much they could have done, again I'm not Haitian. This guy presumes a lot of things here. Maybe if he was born into Haitian society it would be easier for him to understand why things happened like they did. Maybe I'm a sucker and my money will be wasted. Still the thought of so many kids parent less, some with no comprehension of whats even happening..... So much human suffering. If my money can help somebody even get a sip of clean water, well I'm glad I did it.
  17. Terence Cody and his weight is a much bigger more recent story, sure. Not surprised that would be linked so heavily in google. Then again I didn't know a google search defined "who" worried about the weight. Both players got a lot of hype, and both got selected lower then how they performed in the NFL. As for Rogers we should only be so lucky to have an unmotivated fat ass like him. He would make our offensive line look like a bunch of kickers blocking. Do we really expect to keep any player long enough to have age/weight related knee problems anyway? I'm not worried about what will happen to a guy 6 years from now with how we keep our stars. By the way has Cody had any history of such Knee problems? He looks pretty quick playing William Perry role on goaline. He's a major talent. He's not perfect. He will either get in playing shape when it's time or he will be out of the league. If he steps up you have a pro bowler. With other players you risk just as much bustability and have less upside, especially considering how coveted DT's like that are.
  18. That was a really fun game, remember it well. Tasker made the play of the game, no doubt.
  19. He has a lot of big accomplishments over a LONG period of time. He redshirted then started ever since. Big accomplishments/numbers are nothing new to the MAC, Freddie Barnes made over 160 catches this year. LeFevour is a product of Brain Kelly system. Sure Kelly left, but his system never left. The typical spread option run with tons of great crossing routes and screens mixed in. Passing ball control if you will….. Lefevour was out of Shotgun most the time. He ran the ball a lot out of option looks. Mid level arm, mid level accuracy, he does have good size, and also has the look of an 18 year old. . I’ve watched the guy a lot. Central Michigan is my former college’s biggest rival. I guess I just don’t see why so many are calling for the guy. He was a good college player, but I don’t see him transitioning at all to the NFL game. Maybe in the 5th or 6th round I would consider him.
  20. People who don't want DM just blow my mind. Get over Drew Bledsoe, but while your doing it remember that in his immense failure he fielded the best Bills teams the last 10 years. That's how god awful our QB's have been. We also had some good defense back then, something we should also have in the near future. An above average QB is so huge in this washed out league. DM would make us a playoff contender (no I'm not kidding), help us stabilize the position and franchise, while we take a swing at grooming another player at the position. WIN WIN WIN on all fronts ....and yes I see this happening. While it does happen, it's never a good idea to deal with a team in conference. Two recent trades between the Eagles and Bills show the lines are open (Modrak). Buffalo PR must do something drastic to drum up some excitement.
  21. They said the same thing about Rogers out of Texas and Ngata out of Oregon. Even now many lineman struggle with weight in the off season. All he needs to be is competitive. He will learn his role as a DT and he will get into playing shape in camp. So when he lines up against his man, is he lazy or is he too competitive to be lazy? That's what matters most with guys like this. By his on field play I would say he's a competitive guy.
  22. Why don't people like Pike? I think he's one of the best in this class. Prototypical size, arm, led the nation in red zone efficiency. Can throw on the run, is accurate. He's obviously hard nosed, he took a beating against Florida and just kept getting up. The Bearcat offense really responded in the second half. He had zero protection all game. Plays in a cold weather wind area. What am I missing here?
  23. Anybody who suggests we go to a 3-4 with this roster has a low football IQ. I would say permanent banning from the site, but I think that's going to far.
  24. While looking back at my mocks I noticed many players aren’t the league anymore. I also noticed that I was able to land more impact players then the Bills have. I searched and found 4 total mocks I posted for the 2006 and 2007 draft (no other years). By no means am I saying I’m any good at this, just shows how bad we are. Most the posts only included the first few picks. 2007 Posted- April 2, 2007 Swap Firsts with SD for Michael Turner 1.Chris Houston CB- Starter with Atlanta 2.David Harris MLB- Pro Bowl Caliber 3.Manuel Ramirez OG- Drafted 4th round (has some starts for the lions) 4.Jacoby Jones WR- Drafted 3rd round, steadily improving Posted-March 11, 2007 1.Patrick Willis- Drafted one slot before Buffalo, Pro Bowl 2.Michael Bush- Drafted 4th round, 500yrds a year avg, very inconsistent 3.Jason Durant- Drafted second round after ours, 33 starts, solid player 4.Daymeion Hughes- Drafted 3rd round, back up for Colts Summary/What would have happened- I loved Turner and Willis, and would have landed one of them. I would have probably targeted RB Turner, trading down almost 20 spots would have landed him. So that adds CB Houston as our first, I’m ok with that. MLB Harris in the second is a steal a steal. Bush, Jones, Ramirez, Hughes in the 3rd. RB Michael Turner, CB Chris Houston, LB David Harris, then either Jones, Ramirez, Hughes, or Bush in 3rd/4th 2008 Posted Jan 24, 2006 1. D'Brickshaw Ferguson (OT) Gone before pick 3. Elvis Dumerville Pro Bowl (Was Available) 5. Brad Smith WR/QB/Slash role for Jets (Drafted 4th round) 7. Paul Solai (Drafted 4th Round) Posted Dec 14, 2005 1.Haloti Ngata DT Oregon Pro Bowl (Was Available) 2.Daryn Colledge OT Boise State Started 60 of 64 games (Was available in 2nd round) 2.Davin Joseph OG Oklahoma Started 56 of 57 games (3 picks before McCargo) Summary/What would have happened- I started a draft Ngata thread, the first of it's kind. Obviously he would have been my guy. In the second we land Colledge, we don't need to trade up to do so. We could have nearly landed all three in Joseph/Ngata/Colledge as Joseph went just before McCargo. We land Dumerville, filling out with Smith, Solai DT Ngata, OT Colledge, DE Dumerville, WR Smith, DT Solai If this went down, and as I shown it easily could have, these years would have netted DT Ngata, RB Turner, LB Harris, DE Dumerville, OT Colledge, CB Houston, RB Bush, WR Smith amongst others. God we suck at drafting
  25. Like Biscuit said, I used football outsiders stats. Far superior to conventional statistics.
