  1. I read this and can't blame your thought process but at the same time think how wrong you've got it. it's not manipulation, it's understanding where your success comes from as a leader, simply put, it's the people you're leading and some guys give all they got to their teams and there's not much left when you get home. also have to understand the point of time in his career, he's not 'managing' a 10 year career here, he has a new job and let's be real, the expectations for any HC, regardless of tenure is off the charts, probably nothing we'll ever feel in our careers. now, someone could argue "you've got a contract that protects you" yea, a single lump sum, but if you fail in one position, it gets less and less until you have nothing so dedication and perseverance may just pay off. does this hit home for me? absolutely. I don't carry near the career of an HC but when i decided to get married and my wife and I talked about it i told her "as long as you're OK with being #2 as my job will always be #1; love don't pay the bills..." and i was dead serious. now, this was a different scenario, I didn't want kids and neither did she; it was later in my life (36) and really our only "big" life moment was going to be vacation or buying house. in my career i've managed teams of 300-500; been away from home 3+ months straight; during a merger i spent 276 days a year in a hotel for 3 years and I have always said when i'm at work everyone gets my attention, 'coaching', care and concern (whilst i'm not a family man; in my own or even the family i grew up with - i'm quite sincere about others and ensure they are comfortable in how they care for their families), development in career, etc. and i "leave it all on the field" meaning i come home with 'not much more' and to expect that. We're still married 12 years later and while it's not your average marriage it works. Honestly i thought she was going to wait for the 10 year mark and then take half :). Now, i've got 20 years with the same FI(Financial Institution), i've accomplished many of the goals i had set; we've recently moved from LA to far south Miami and there's many more "8 and skate" workdays for me so we have more time together. she still understands work has priority (travel, on-call, etc.) but at the level i sit within the company it's lass frequent, i'm now managing the people that do what i spent the last 20 years doing, do i expect they put in the same dedication? absolutely not, but i do expect results and they, as well as I, need to know what that means to attain results and that's both of us working together. My wife may have some comments, some of them very honest, i love the candor she brings, but this has worked for us, would i have said "you good" at the delivery room? not sure, but if there was a work need we both would have our expectations set and would know what scenario would play out. I'm not condoning Gase's actions but i can see his thought process and the point in time of his career and his wife should know what she's in for being married to an HC and that might mean she has to accept some things she doesn't like. lastly - his track record isn't good but i'm nervous what's coming out of New Jersey; if he's laser focused, gets Greggggggg under control (thats not easy) and puts this all together he could find his first success as an HC. he has a heck of a lot more autonomy (and better FO) than he did in Miami, if the players buy in this could be a good thing but it's going to be fragile, very fragile.
  2. Indeed. there's perceived dysfunction but they have a lot of talent throughout that team, and I still feel Darnold is the gem (polish, potential) of that QB class. there's a lot of cray-cray from top to bottom in that organization, but it's possible it comes together and for some reason my gut tells me they'll be just lucky enough for it to go the right direction.
  3. Quoting Wikipedia as a legitimate source? Really? Don’t get me wrong, some of the contributions may have merit but let’s consider there’s potential bias in that piece. Ill give you credit for making the effort and appreciate you have passion around this but it’s still on her as far as I’m concerned, and my conviction is enough to say i’d Feel the same way as if it was my own family.
  4. No sympathy from me, she spilled it, she knew it was hot, the degree of hot shouldn't be the factor, there's risk regardless. now if you find someone in the company that blows the whistle, well, y'all know the outcome. It's like hitting your thumb with a hammer and suing the manufacturer for making intentionally too hard, i mean really, let's be objective about it; people shouldn't be able to sue for their shortcomings or stupidity, and there's a shocking amount of stupidity out there. Frozen pizzas have "remove pizza from all packaging" and "do not eat frozen" on the instructions, why? because someone will toss it in the oven and burn their house down. Enforce accountability for christs sake. and if any of you recall that case kicked off the frivolous lawsuit clause whereas a judge could decision and turn around disciplinary action on the plaintiff and we desperately needed that, at least in California and i'm sure in other places as well. human side me feels sorry for her experience, and yes McD was dumb to not just help out when it was a civil request, but she needs to be accountable for knowing it's hot and not to drop the damn thing in your lap. lastly regarding my lack of sympathy - she went overboard on her pain and suffering ask, if it was "just fix it" she should have stopped at a reasonable amount.
  5. no doubt it'll be quite a vehicle, i just think it's losing it's 'merica identity, looks like a NSX and Lambo had a baby; now if the public reacts positively then they did it right but i look at your true blue vette dude (or chick) as having that non-european appeal. for the last 3 years i had 3 Caddy's in my driveway, i'm just in love with where the brand is now: 2017 CTS V 2017 XT5 (Wife's car) 2012 CTS V wagon - in the garage, covered... Truthfully i'm getting to that point that getting in and out of cars 3 inches from the ground is a PITA and i like the fact crossovers are getting the high end 'supercar' mentality so i've Carmaxed my 2017 V and ordered a Jag F-Pace SVR (that Jag just delayed the build date 1 month ?) and i'll trade in my Wife's car and that will be our sole daily driver. i love cars and appreciate them, rarely am i jealous as i'm just happy someone owns it and is taking good care of it. i love the new technology thats coming to cars and am excited to see it all unfold. i still have that retirement dream or restoring a 67 camaro convertible (427) but my ambitions might be greater than my ability. am i the only one stoked to see the autonomous driving functionality?
  6. ahh, reminds me of the last 18 years of my life, albeit i was further south but the iconic Cali coastline, it's something to take in and a luxury for the folks that live there. I could live on a beach in a shack, that simple, it's my heaven on earth; some beaches are nicer, warmer but at the end of the day, the breeze, sounds, it's my graceland. after 18 years in Long Beach, i was a dive instructor (weekend job for fun) i made the move to S Florida and will never regret it. solo nights on the beach, acceptable provisions of my favorite libation (IPA if i'm winging it, Irish Whiskey if i'm being proper), a crackling fire and i am content.
  7. about 3 years ago Charbroil introduced the gas2Coal line and i grabbed the middle-sized grill in the line and have never looked back. In fact i've gone online and bought every individual part so i can frankenstein my original grill and keep it operational in this dastardly Florida weather. has a charcoal pan that extends the entire surface area, I can lump up charcoal (Kingsford applewood) in 1/3 sections so i can utilize the direct/indirect heating based on my audience. Use the gas to heat up the coals, once they start turning gray, turn the gas off and start cooking. For Steak - Ribeye goes without saying; my personal favorite is a 1.5-2" Strip but i won't ever turn down a ribeye. if i'm doing medallions i could make a tri-tip that would make weak in the knees, i guarantee it... Dry rub w/ extra virgin olive oil - no wet marinade unless is flank/butt or carne asada; i prefer a spice (reaper, scotch bonnet) or cayenne for some deep (not stingy) "below your skin" heat. just enough to put a little mist on your brow. not everyone is a spice person so in that case it's a standard chop house dry blend of salt, black pepper, tad of nutmeg, bay leaf and some lime skin shavings. 12 hours preferred, 1 day optimal, 2 days in the rub = Utopian. take out 1-2 hours before cooking and let it sit at room temp. Only way to consume a steak - rare to med-rare anything else and you're doing it wrong; char it on both sides on direct heat, then 5-8 minutes indirectly; wrap in foil and let it rest for 10 mins. Steak directly on the grill, if it's thicker than your open hand cover for 50% of the cooking time. Hamburgers on a cast iron plate in the grill, butter and salt on the cooking surface.
  8. i struggle with preseason games, i understand the intent but i'm not sure i can discern between underlying issues, what you've notated above, and the reality is the team/coach is just going through the motions; albeit your observation ended up being a real issue. Rex (and other coaches) talk about doing things they would never do in the regular season, they know the games don't count they scheme "vanilla", some players are full go @ 120% and others are 50 to 75, i just feel like it's not a real effort and thus why are we doing it? so we can evaluate talent during a less than 100% effort against vanilla schemes? Don't get me wrong, the season needs a practice game or two, players need a feel for a real game experience without it counting against them to warm up but i'm not sure it's 4 and not sure it needs to be such a production...
  9. he certainly was a wrecking ball, one of the most feared up till he met his "Clubber Lang". Maybe he peaked too early, immature in the sport, thriving on talent alone with little discipline. amazing how once the confidence is shattered, talent alone isn't enough to overcome and allow the athlete to get back on the horse; we've seen it in many examples but this one stands out IMO.
  10. i don't think you're wrong here but i'm not sure it's that blatant. The component at work here that driving the 'relationship' (in quotes because i'm not 100% of the reporting/responsibility hierarchy) is respect and i think that's in the drivers seat and will set the tone as long as they work together. As long as both parties are mature (personally and business) respect is a constant and can persevere through the pendulum of good and bad; you can absolutely hate someone but working for them in palatable because there's respect, subsequently the authority can relieve someone of their duties also based on respect (whether it's more or less) but it doesn't get in the way and thus i'm not sure we should label it 'friendship' more than respect and partnership towards a common goal.
  11. Through my 20's to 40's my name was synonymous with teva's, i loved them and honestly didn't know they were still out there. the last 21 years i've lived in long beach and most recently south Florida, I have the luxury of working from home so i have some form of sandal on 85% of my time (when i'm not barefoot). in fact i get cranky when i have to put shoes on. Flip Flops are no longer part of my 'sandal life'; a long and difficult 'bout with Plantar Fasciitis a few years ago led me to Birks and i've not switched since, i even have all rubber Birks for poolside and Birk insoles for my dress shoes. but if Teva's are still out there i'll definitely look them up, will be handy on the dive boat.
  12. ^^ this They rarely reside in my cupboards but if they do, unfrosted, strawberry then blueberry and untoasted and i prefer the edges over the middle. for some reason i get a hankering more for them when camping.
  13. nope - deep south Florida; although i will say in the 3 years i've lived here (moved here after 18 years in LA) i'm still trying to figure this fanbase out. I get it a lot of transplants and football recognition but i'm not sure 'fan' by its definition describes everyone. for the last 11 years, my best friend (Fins fan whole life, lives in Miami) and I have attended the Bills v Fins in miami, regardless of where i've lived, and it's not like any other football game i've attended (LOVE football in general, i'll go to a game just to be there, even if i don't like the teams playing), home games in Miami is almost like an event to congregate vs watch a football game.
  14. I'm liking Baker, i dig the swagger so i don't look at this as intent to be a douchbag. Hue is Hue and he is what we thought... if Jeff George and Drew Brees had a lovechild = Baker i think his ceiling is very high as long as he understands and respects his limitations, the fire in his belly alone will win games, I'm happy for Cleveland, i'm jealous it's not the bills but i'm glad they have they appear to be putting it together.
