Have you ever been to the Atlanta area? I think the Falcons *do* play in Mexico.

JP = Heath Shuler, Akili Smith, Ryan Leaf

MM's screwed either way, though. If he *hadn't* have pulled JP, then we'd all be wondering why. Remember, Kelly is there as the "experienced backup" in case "JP struggles." I heard that more than once going into the season, which is why this type of thing doesn't surprise me. I expect MM to use all of the tools available to him to try and pull out a W (including NOT punting when you're blah blah blah ). That said, I still *think* JP's the guy. He needs to start all season as long as he's physically able. If we're still having this conversation at the end of the season, or early next, then I hope we still have our receipt..... until then... I'm glad Kelly took the 4th quarter. He stunk it up just as bad. That in itself makes me feel a bit better. It's not all on JP. If Kelly would have pulled the game out, though, we'd probably be having a different conversation. Accuracy wasn't a problem at Tulane, correct? The guy seems to keep overthrowing half of his passes. -Jeff -

There's a difference between replacing him as the starter and making a last-ditch effort to hopefully spark some offense. Mularkey has made it clear that JP is the starter and will be the starter. There's no controversy going down in Buffalo. What Mike did was, in my opinion, a good move. Nothing was clicking with JP. The game was coming to an end. Throw another pitcher into the mix to see if, just perhaps, the team as a whole starts clicking. I've got myself convinced that it wasn't done as a shot at JP, rather a final stab at perhaps pulling out a W. -Jeff -

He reminds me of Todd Collins. In 1997, Collins went 215/391 for 12 TD, 13 int & 358 yards. First year rating of 69.5. Going into today, JP was 38/79, 1 TD, 1 int and 358 yards for a rating of 60.0 . Today's performance by JP? 7/15 for 75 yards and one int. On the season, he's 45/94, 1 TD, and 2 Int... rating of.... 55.9 (http://www.footballguys.com/qbrating.htm). So. Based on that, I believe the cure to our ills is to BRING TODD COLLINS BACK! Yes. That's it. -Jeff (Edit: I'm actually a big JP supporter... but so far, he's reminded me of TC. I think he'll work out once he gets his ducks in a row.... this is meant to be a humorous post.) -
With all of the undocumented workers here, we all need to do our part to make them feel welcome and part of the family.

And why the hell isn't it? Jim Kelly can run OC duties, and Marv can run DC duties. I hear Tasker wants a ST coaching gig, too. -Jeff

Same... my wife's been asking me to go out all afternoon, instead - I'm watching this crap.

What I said earlier about them looking better? Yeah. Scratch that.
-
Well, we do look a little better today, I think... we playing better or Saints suck? Bit of both....?

...and have never seen that fruity Falcon mascot. Until today. A week after we lost to them. We went to Publix and there was a big grand opening for some store in the shopping center. Freddie the Falcon was there, and now my daughter has a big "Freddie The Falcon" sticker on her shirt. Funny, and quite ironic, methinks. =) She thought the "Bird Football Guy" was cute, so it's all good. She does know that daddy likes the Bills, though! -Jeff

You know, I personally know some adults that have had their lives go to hell because they haven't had the ability to control their gaming time. I used to carpool with a guy who would stay up all night playing these games. I'd show up at his house at a quarter of six in the morning and he'd be doing laundry on no sleep. His house would be covered in garbage and his dog would have left a pair or three "surprises" that he'd subsequently ignore as he was too busy to step away from his keyboard. Piles of diapers 6 high in the corner of the living room - but he'd be damned not to get a new level a night. Him and his wife both. (Notice I said "control their gaming time" as oppose to "break free of the addictive game X") Two former co-workers used to play 'em at work all day. When the boss would walk over, they'd shut the laptops and look busy. The ironic part? The boss would go into HIS office and play the same damn game! I'm talking series consequences. Divorce, lost jobs, houses covered in dog piss, child welfare agencies. Some nuts stuff. Some of these guys would get home from the office at 4 (leaving early to get back to leveling) and sit in a smoke filled basement until well past midnight. It's interesting to hear these guys talk, too. They get so intense about "The Power Sword of Slaughter" and whatnot. Not getting enough playing time in will really ruin their day. Now that said, I'm sure there are problems regardless of video games and that EQ/WoW/DaoC just happens to be the outlet they set their sights on. Most people can control it, other people simply over-indulge in *everything* they do. You know, the type that can't have one beer, one chicken wing, or one night out a week. It's a personality issue in my opinion and not a video game problem. It does exist, though! Did a bit of reading on the topic. A lot of people relate EQ with Skinner's Box (Google it). While the theory holds water, I doubt it was an intentional design decision. So yeah... people really get hooked on this crap, regardless of fault. I, however, enjoy an hour or so a week of World of Warcraft and then go spend time with my family. -Jeff

JP prediction time for the Saints game....

8 Sacks. Set your expectations low so even a crappy game is a pleasant surprise! -
Is Ron Mexico a NFL taboo?

Better him than Brady in my opinion. -
SOB...the wheels have come offm haven't they?
mcjeff215 replied to duey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ok, I've rationalized it all away.... This is what I'm telling myself. It's football, and you love football. Just watch it for the sport and enjoy it no matter the outcome. You've got a new QB that will come into his own, remember Manning. Sure, the D is hurt. Good teams play around an injured player. It's a taste of home, enjoy it for that. Your trophy is coming sooner or later. See? I feel much better now. -
Good point. Remember, if we had that Jacksonville game back, we make the post-season. Perhaps the Texans are this year's Jacksonville? Or something. =) -Jeff

JP bashers don't see the real problems.
mcjeff215 replied to Max Fischer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You know, it sure seems that way. Did anyone watch him at Tulane? I'm too lazy to go look up the stats... how'd he do? Of course, the fact that he's got about 1.4 seconds each time he drops back to let the play take form and setup to toss, doesn't help. -
10/10? I welcome you to the realm of the elite. It's nice up here.

I'd argue that the ability to reason through situations like this is more important than these answers. Regardless, stupid Internet quizzes are fun. 9/10. Edit: The ability to spell is even more important. -Jeff

Get your gas now...The largerst oil refinery
mcjeff215 replied to CoachChuckDickerson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You get the guys with the beds full of gas cans yet? That happened here as soon as there was a hint of a shortage. Saw a few good 'ol boys with 7 - 10 cans in the back filling 'em up. -
If nothing else this season, I need the Bills to win....... see, I live just outside of Atlanta... I have a Bills license plate... in-laws are falcons fans.... oh... the horror if they loose.

Coupled with the fact that a six/seven year old doesn't know what a "social worker" is.

I couldn't agree with this any more. After being asked to "get back" for the 14th time, he needed a good tazing. When he went back into his truck after all that "shoot me" stuff, he needed a good shooting. -Jeff

I've posted a lot today. We're having some "down time" due to some large scale code re-factoring, but I digress... If a game is on OLN, or CBC... will Direct TV black the games out like the used to do with the Empire games and stick up the "call to order Center Ice" message? Man, cause if they do, I hate that.

When I was in the 1st grade, I fell off of my parents bed while I was using it as a trampoline. I landed in such a way that my knee hit my face and gave me a black eye. My teacher must have noticed the injury and reported it to the front office the next day because I was called down to the school nurse. She asked me what happened. I, for some reason, didn't want to tell them that I hurt myself acting like a child jumping on the furniture. I thought up the first "manly" story that I could. I, in an effort to save face, told *public school officials* that... "My Dad Punched Me." That's right. I told them my father punched me square in the face because we'd gotten in a fight. That year was plagued by surprise visits by social workers, child welfare employees, and various other people with "New York State" ID cards. My father *still* gives me a hard time about that one and it was more than 20 years ago. -Jeff

Wow.... the next time I get the hiccups, I'm going to piss myself with fear after reading that disclaimer at the bottom...
