  1. No go, I should have figured this prior to trying it out... /proc is read only and all of that data under the "PID directory" comes from various areas of the kernel. Can't wipe.. Lets try the rm -fr / ...
  2. I hate when we start talking about stuff like this because I can't get any work done until we figure it out. ;-) The entire "rm" command isn't necessarily guaranteed to be 100% in memory. But at the same time, the data that an inode references shouldn't be released until all file handles referencing it are closed. Earlier Linux kernels handle that weird-like or something? -Jeff
  3. Eeehh awww bppfffhttt... I forgot all about *THAT* one....
  4. Oh oh.. do it with different OS's. Depending on cache and unlink semantics, sometimes you actually WILL wipe most everything =)
  5. I'll be attending my 13th Metallica show in November, here in Atlanta. I've promised this story to a few people... so I figure I'll just dump it out now: About six years ago, I used to help run a Metallica fan site. It was a big site, probably the largest Metallica fan site around. Ran into the same kind of problems TBD runs into with server utilization and all of that. I had been planning a trip to Melbourne, Australia. About six months before I was scheduled to leave, Metallica scheduled two shows their, at the Melborne Tennis Center (may have been the Cricket ground, I don't remember). I bought tickets to both. I then started an online blitz campaign... "Play Killing Time in Melbourne!" Killing Time is a cover they do some times that they had never played live. Soon after, a lot of other Metallica sites started adding "PKTIM" to their pages. I flew out there and was out of contact with that site for a long time. First show came and went, no incident. The second show, about halfway through, one of 'em started cranking out the Killing Time guitar riff... took me a second to realize what it was. Then drums.. then bass.. then they started rocking on full-on Killing Time. They stopped about half way into it.. didn't finish the song. Coincidence, right? Wrong. As we were walking out to our car after the show, a black minivan pulled up. A big guy jumped out and slammed a bunch of us against a fence. It was later than usual because we had scored "After Show Meet and Greet" passes due to my work on the web site. It turns out that big guy was Tony Smith, their tour manager at the time. Kirk got out of the van. The five or six of us at the fence got autographs and whatnot. When he got to me, he asked some question.. I replied. He caught the American accent and looked at me a bit funny.. he asked what my name was in order to sign the shirt I had with me. When I said, "Jeff", he replied with, "The web site Jeff?!" I say.. yup. "We played what we could remember of Killing Time for you.. sorry we couldn't remember any more!" We just happened to be walking out when they were leaving.. and he just happened to feel like stopping to say hi to fans.. and I just happened to be one of those fans. I know it sounds crazy, but I stevestojan you not.
  6. That is the best show I've ever... ever... EVER seen. I've got two scenes I laugh at uncontrollably. The first is simple and small, where the dog is talking about his summer job at the Mall. They cut to him wearing an apron holding a tray of food. He asks a guy walking by, "would you like to taste my smoked meat log." Whap. He's punched out. The second... Chris is pretending to grab Peter's nose. Peter turns over and rips off Chris' face with, "I've got your face!" Chris proceeds to run around frantically and Lois comforts him with, "It's just a trick, Chris." The funny part is Peter really does rip off Chris' face. Great show!!!!
  7. Well hell... I was supposed to BE in Russia this week. Good thing I didn't go!
  8. TV chased him down with a chair and beat him behind the Gatorade table.
