Divisional Playoffs - Chiefs at Bills - Post game thread
CincyBillsFan replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
The only great game the Bills D played that won a game was Baltimore. The offense rolled over NE taking all the pressure off the D. When the Steelers were sneaking back into the game in the 2nd half it was the offense which shut the door with a long TD drive. The Bills have a Defensive minded head coach and a GM that has built a defensive focused roster that in the last 10 playoff games can point to only one game where the D was outstanding and was a difference maker. -

Again we have to figure mental and physical exhaustion into this. The offense had run 14 plays on that drive before the 2 minute warning. And those included a key 4th down conversion and a couple of 3rd down conversions. From Brady to Allen (who take a wicked hit earlier in the drive) to the O linemen I get why they may have fizzled coming out of the break. This makes me even madder at the D. They faced only 47 plays and 23 minutes of TOP yet they couldn't win many battles between the D line and the Chiefs O line. -

In the Allen playoff years which is 10 playoff games, McD's Defense played well ONCE. In every other game it played bad the whole game or at key moments that either lost us the game (Houston) or nearly lost the game (Indy - remember the Bills had a 24 - 10 4th quarter lead and almost lost). Given that McD is a defensive coach and Bean has fashioned D heavy roster this is unacceptable. The Bills are wasting the prime years of Allen's career. If they don't see it you have to wonder if that organization is worth our hard earned money and time. -

How many plays were run on that last drive BEFORE the final two passes? FOURTEEN! In the Bills 5 scoring/missed FG drives they ran 14, 11, 12, 15 & 16 plays. It's amazing that the Bills didn't have a TO or a couple of big penalties or a sack. In total the Bills ran 78 plays to the Chiefs 47. And it was 2nd & 9 not 1st and 10 so we had to be more aggressive if we were trying to score a TD and not a FG there. And for the record Allen could not step into that throw because the left tackle was pushed into him as he let it lose. We should have used more play action throws on 1st down but of course the offense was working diligently on protecting McD's Defense. On the one play action pass in the 4th quarter Allen threw a great deep ball that Diggs dropped. Again Allen plays out of his mind yet we think if we could just squeeze a little bit more magic out of the guy we can win games like this. IMO that is insane and condemns the Bills to making the same mistakes over and over and over again. -
There is no reason for you to feel hopeful unless we see the Bills brain trust aggressively work to add more weapons to the O. Pegula will not move on from McD even though some of the top offensive minds in the NFL would love to get a shot at coaching Allen. So our one and only hope is that they pivot and focus on adding more high end skill players through the draft and FA.

Much like the Offense was asked to do more then score points but to also hold on to the ball for a ridiculous number of plays and time the special teams were asked to do something beyond their ability to do in order to protect McD's Defense. This is called "complimentary football" by McD. What would have been real "complementary football" would be if the Defensive line, which was healthy and is loaded with high draft picks and big time FA's had blown up the KC line. Now that would have protected the LB's far better. But then again that would be expecting a McD defense to play great in the playoffs. It's happened ONCE in the last 10 playoff games.

Hard to step into the throw when your left tackled is being pushed into you. -

You're a troll and only a blind bat wouldn't see it. There is no point in even replying to your points as they're not made in good faith or in the spirit of an open & honest discussion. And please with the "he is not immune from criticism" crap about Allen. I hate the idea of putting trolling posters on "ignore" as it's like having to shut your blinds because the neighbor is running around naked down the street. -

At least two of those three long passes are caught by almost any competent NFL WR. Did you see the catch the KC WR made on the long pass to kick off the 3rd quarter which was exactly the same pay that Sherfield couldn't make? And I don't want to hear a peep from Diggs or his brother in the off season. NOT A FREAKING WORD. -

Shut up. This is such a garbage post. Go ahead and suspend me mods but why are brainless trolls allowed to post crap like this on 2BD? -

Then our only hope is that they have a come to Jesus moment and understand that they must prioritize the Offense and surround their elite, franchise QB with the best possible talent. We could have had McCaffrey and we could have had D Hop. Sure they would not have come cheap but neither did Von Miller. From 2019 - 2022 Diggs was the ONLY big move this organization has made in support of Allen. They did the right thing drafting Kincaid in the 1st round. But unless the Bills continue over the next couple of drafts to spend 1st round picks on the O then drafting Kincaid was to little and to late. If the Bills don't sign a guy like Higgens or use their 1st round pick on a WR then prepare to be deeply disappointed again. -

We lost when the D couldn't stop the Chiefs and the O not only had to score but was asked to take 15 plays and 8 minutes to do it. What McD asked the O to do to protect his D was football malpractice. Only the otherworldly play of Allen put us in a position where it almost worked. To watch the Bills D line, a relatively healthy unit that has seen the biggest draft and FA investments over the last 5 years fail to even slow the Chiefs down was an indictment of everything Bean & McD have worked against. Almost no pressure on Mahomes as the D line was manhandled by the Chiefs O line. And the O gave the D long drives that allowed them to rest and get coached up. Sorry, but if people want to look elsewhere for where the real problems are have at it. Just don't expect the disappointment to end any time soon. -

McD deserves credit for turning the Bills franchise around. He deserves credit for rallying the team at 6 - 6 winning 6 in a row, the Division title, and the first playoff game. But the Bills will NEVER win a Super Bowl with him as head coach. The division round is it. McD is Marvin Lewis with a much better QB then Lewis had. I get those that don't want to move on from McD. Down here in Cincinnati I was in the camp of keeping Lewis because he took the worst franchise in football and made them a regular playoff team. So I've been there and done that. I was wrong about Lewis back then and those people who want to keep McD now are wrong about that. I know if they keep McD and continue to focus on the D in the draft and free agency then the last 3 seasons will be our fate as Bills fans gong forward. And that sucks. -
Johnson clears protocol, Bernard not expected to play

I disagree. The Bills organization has repeatedly demonstrated that they are conservative when it comes to player safety. I have never felt like they rushed anyone back to soon.- 146 replies

The comparison is apt. He's had CMC open on the check down on almost every play and won't take it. -

PFF is right to talk about turnover worthy plays and luck when looking at INT's. My goodness Purdy has thrown 2 easy INT's that were dropped. Had GB caught those balls this game might be over. -

Agreed. Shannahan can build a roster and he can structure an offense but his game management skills leave a lot to be desired. Why not dump that last pass off to CMC to get 10 yards and ensure the FG? -
Kansas City at Buffalo in the Divisional Round!
CincyBillsFan replied to chongli's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is a great point. Mahomes will do fine with the noise though his O line will struggle a bit.The real advantage for the Bills will be that their Pass Pro will find the Chiefs blitz packages a lot easier to handle in a quiet stadium. And our front 7 will find their jobs easier with the Chiefs worrying about hearing their pass pro calls. -
Compared to other QBs, JA dominates in December and January
CincyBillsFan replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
You ignore Allen's 80+ rushing yards in the KC championship game. Even worse you ignore the D's play whch allowed the Chiefs to go up and down the field on long TD plays all game long. As far as the Bengal's game goes that was on the D to win and they fell flat on their face. The Cincy game was like the Ravens playoff game in that the weather favored a low scoring, defensive slug fest. The problem was the D didn't show up allowing the Bengal's to go on 2 long TD drives the first two times they had the ball. That put the Bills in a 14 - 0 hole they were never able to climb out of. BTW, Allen's ONE TO didn't come until late in the 4th quarter when the game was already over. And are you high to be throwing out the Houston playoff game from 2019? Allen was still improving and the O had very little talent. Again it was the D which had the lions share of the Bills best players that blew a 16 - 0 lead half way through the 3rd quarter. Why do negative people like you bother to post on a thread like this where the originator is trying to talk up our QB and team on the eve of a huge playoff game? Well generally speaking if your QB is going to get you to a Super Bowl he better be able to produce "good individual stats" in December & January. Of course that alone won't guarantee a SB berth but it's a very good start. -
Well then that makes this an even worse question then it was before. It is a creative way to throw shade at Allen though.

CincyBillsFan replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
They would add nothing to the discussion because we've already established that Allen has played great in December & January and has done all he could to get to February. -
Are you asking if we can win with Allen throwing one or at most two INT's? Or are you asking if we can win if we intercept Mahomes 1 or 2 times? Because you know Allen doesn't throw a lot of INT's in the playoffs: He has 20 TD passes and only 5 INT's over 9 playoff games.

I think the data provides overwhelming evidence that Buffalo's failures to advance to a Super Bowl are not because of Allen's play but point to other factors beyond his control. -
Bingo! Some posters can't B word about Allen and McD after this game so they find new ways to throw shade on the Bills.
