The tough thing about evaluating TE's when you're a fan is that we're ignorant of a big part of their game. We focus on the catches & drops but without access to game film or how a play is supposed to be blocked we're in the dark about the total package a TE brings to the table. We all want to see Kelsey but in this offense that may not even be possible based on the scheme. With respect to Kroft I suspect his blocking is quite good. Ditto for Smith. And given a full training camp & preseason to work with Allen his pass catching contribution should go up. I get that it would be risky to stand pat at TE but of all the position groups on the offense this is the one I would take that risk on. A fully healthy Kroft will contribute more next season in the passing game and I have two rookies who showed great promise. It's reasonable to assume that Knox & Sweeny will be much better next year. I can see the TE's getting better from this year to next year. But NOTHING can be done to make Beasley 6 inches taller or knock 10 years off Gore.

On that Texans drive you can see the value of PLAY MAKERS. The toe tap by Hopkins to convert that 3rd & long was a thing of beauty.
-
Well obviously the Bills complained to the NFL head office and the officials listened!
-
Please! While we were starting drives at our 10, 8 & 4 yard lines the Chiefs were benefiting from a KO return giving them the ball at Houston's 40; then the Texans faked a punt giving the Chiefs the ball at the Texans 30 and then a fumble on a KO gave the Chiefs the ball at Houston's 6 yard line! Context is everything!

You guys don't get why we do it! If we were British they'd call us "cheeky"! We know Allen isn't close to being at Mahones level right now. Though I would submit he's a lot closer to being at (or ahead) of Jackson & Watson but I digress. We point out the bad throws, goofy decisions and GREAT catches their receivers make as a way of holding up a MIRROR to those who brutally criticize Allen on these very same points. All we want is an HONEST discussion about Allen - his flaws and his strengths. But nooooooooooo, every Allen pass is put under a microscope and dissected. All we're doing is showing that what's fair for the goose is fair for the gander.
-
Is it me or was that a bad spot by the ref? Sort of like earlier in this drive when you had that holding call when Watson converted that 3rd & 1? I wonder if those mystery officials in black up in the stands are worrying about people tuning this game out by half?
-
I guess he can hope that the Texans D line bats the ball back to him so he can catch it and run. Because sure as hell his receivers ain't helping him out.
-
In a way that narrative is being proven as fact so far. Some of these drops are inexcusable but in the end Mahomes will take the heat. It's not fair but it is what it is. My fear is that maybe KC will be in the market for receivers!
-
This game isn't over yet but KC's home playoff record recently is bizzare.
-
Holy cow!
-
That was my thought to. Sure he should have caught the pass but it was behind him and if that had been a Bills WR you know for a FACT that several posters on 2BD would be calling Allen out for not being perfectly accurate in his ball placement.
-
You must be a huge Wizard of Oz fan what with all the straw men you keep throwing out.

Maybe never is to extreme how about ALMOST never. I will concede that Knox made a great contested catch against the Pats and his one handed catch against the Ravens, on a ball that Allen literally PLACED on his bicep, was sweet. But that's it. Brown had a lot of nice solid catches but I don't recall anything special. Ditto for Beasley, Duke, Foster, McKenzie, Singleterry, Gore, DeMarco, Kroft, Roberts & Smith. Did you see the catch the TN guy made for the TD last night? Or the catch the Ravens TE made for his TD? Other then the one handed catch of a perfectly placed Allen throw by Knox did a Bills receiver make even one play where the spectacular nature of the CATCH was an ESPN highlight?
-
Every NFL game I watch I see receivers make catches that I NEVER see the Bill's receivers make. Last night was no different. Not sure why anyone sober would even argue the point.

The compulsive need of the national sports media to throw out a negative spin on Allen is astonishing. Why do they even care? For 80% of these guys it really does seem personal. The similarities between Allen & Turbisky and the Bills & Bears are SUPERFICIAL at most. This is simply lazy prognosis. And for the record is Turbisky really that bad and was it his fault the Bears took a step back this year? I watched 3 Bears games and in EVERY one their D looked pretty average to me. And for the record this is why some Bill's fans rally around Allen and defend him. The last thing we should be doing is piling on when the sports media goes after our QB. The TRUTH about Allen is simple: * He showed considerable improvement from his rookie year to his 2nd year in spite of still not having much in the way of impactful play makers. * He still has a long way to go before he's an elite QB and he may never get there. But his upside is sky high and he has the potential to be an elite NFL QB. * The odds are better that the Bills win a lot of games and go to the playoffs a lot over the next 5 years with Allen as QB then he's a bust and a disappointed Bills organization parts ways with him in the next couple of years.

A Haters Guide for Rooting for Remaining Teams

I'm rooting for the Chiefs tomorrow. Mahomes is fun to watch. After that I'm good with either the Chiefs or Titans going to the Super Bowl. One of the Titan's D coaches was a long time coach of a local high school near where I live (Kerry Combs). His team always beat ours! He was a class act as a coach though. -
Divisional Round: Titans at Ravens

The Ravens season had nothing to do with our season. Everyone agrees that we're still a work in progress. Allen needs to improve and we desperately need to upgrade the offense, particularly skill players. IMO we overachieved this season. We were playing with house money in Houston. In contrast, the Ravens were 14 - 2 and had locked up home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. They are loaded on offense. Just look at the pro Bowl roster to see how the 2 teams compare. Their QB played terribly and because of his play they lost the game. This isn't a case where the Ravens D didn't show up and they lost 38 - 35 with Jackson playing great. They lost 28 - 12 and scored ONLY one TD and that was in the 4th quarter. The realistic expectations for the Ravens was through the roof. If the Bills went 14 - 2 and lost their first playoff game I would be deeply disappointed. I'm pissed off about the Houston game because we blew a big lead and still could have stolen the game in OT. But let's be clear NO Bill's fan should be feeling even a fraction of the disappointment that the Ravens fans are going to feel over the entire off season. -

Bingo. No one is going to mention how on 4th and inches Jackson decided to run laterally to the line and then tried to reverse field. The net result was a loss of a yard and TN gets the ball. That was the first drive of the 2nd half and the Ravens were on the edge of the red zone! That one screw-up probably lost the Ravens the game. And if that didn't then Jackson's piss poor pass that was intercepted in the TN red zone early in the 4th quarter definitely did. But all we heard about was how Allen was rattled because he tried a stupid lateral. It didn't matter that the lateral play HAD NO EFFECT ON THE GAME. It fit the narrative and that's all that mattered. I for one am sick of this crap. -

No he isn't and if I was a Ravens fan I would be real nervous about whether next year the league figures out Lamar and Roman's offense. And while we may be homers what the hell are you? Posting your love for all things Jackson after tonight's performance? On a BUFFALO BILLS message board? Throwing out that Jackson was miles ahead of Allen immediately after he laid an ostrich egg for his 2nd playoff game? Jackson has a team LOADED with elite offensive talent. And he was playing at home. Had Allen played like this in a home playoff game you guys would be freaking out. The double standard is just astonishing to me. I get it if I was on a Ravens board or even just an NFL board. But on a Bills board? It makes no sense to me. -

I don't care. The Ravens offense was constructed for Jackson. The Ravens have more talent on offense then the Bills do. The truth is that Allen had a better playoff game against the Texans on the road then Jackson had last year and this year playing AT HOME. If I was a Ravens fan I would be sick. And yes I would be questioning my QB. A 14 - 2 regular season record only matters if you at least win one playoff game. I would say it only matters if you get to the Super Bowl. What's the point to earn home field advantage through the playoffs only to lose the 1st playoff game AT HOME? And the Ravens loss to TN tonight is almost entirely on Jackson. He played AWFUL. If I have to endure posts from folks claiming that Allen lost last weeks game then I sure as hell won't ignore the FACT that Jackson did a lot more to lose tonight's game. He didn't make a meaningful play in the first 3 quarters to help his team win the game. NOT ONE. And his carelessness with the ball and his poor execution TWICE on QB sneaks on 4th & 1 killed any chance for Baltimore to win this game. Frankly, he played so poorly tonight that I would NOT make him MVP. Unless Wilson plays like crap tomorrow he's my MVP. Or how about D. Henry? -

Listening to Boomer E is nauseating. Bad field position! On the 3 consecutive Bills possessions after their opening TD drive they started at their own 10, 8 & 4 yard line. And they drove for 2 FG's. I don't recall a single analyst talking about the Bills poor field position as an excuse for Allen not getting more points. And it's more then Jackson's 3 TO's you also have to consider his terrible 4th and inches try in the 3rd quarter when he tried to reverse field. That was EVERY BIT AS BAD as Allen's attempted lateral. He panicked and cost the Ravens the game on that play. All I ask is that the analysts who are paid to explain this game TREAT the QB's similarly in their praise & criticism. It's clear that they don't and all you have to do is look at this game tonight with Jackson and last weeks game with Allen. -

That really pisses me off. Allen's INT that bounced off Beasley's hands was all his fault when Chris Collinsworth is calling the game. We had to endure 5 minutes of replays showing how Allen threw off the wrong foot. With Fouts, Jackson's much worse throw was just a "little high". This is what bugs those of us who support Allen - the double standard is oppressive.
