1/15/22 WC PLAYOFFS Bills vs Pats* Postgame Thread
CincyBillsFan replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
They'll slither out of the toilet the next time Allen struggles but for now let's hope they stay under their rocks. Allen was pure perfection tonight. I have never seen a QB lay this well in the playoffs - EVER. And considering the temperature? Amazing. -
Don't get me wrong - I kind of like Wright and he's entertaining which is his job. BUT sometimes his takes are so stupid and so plainly designed to rile up a fan base that you just have to laugh. The simple fact is that the team and QB who are under the most pressure to win this weekend are the LA Rams and Matt Stafford. And no other team or QB is close.
-
I wish I could get paid big bucks to be a professional troll like Nick Wright! I was watching a video where good old Nick stated with 100% confidence that the Bills and Allen were under the most pressure to win this weekend because a loss would not only be devastating to this season but would be devastating to the career of Allen and the future of the Bills franchise!! He went on to explain that the Bills could never recover from losing to a ROOKIE QB in the playoffs. I would like to point out to Nick that: * The Chiefs are under every bit as much pressure as the Bills since along with the Bills they were projected as the lead Super Bowl contenders in the AFC. * And should the Bill's lose Saturday night, and I don't think they will, it will not be to a rookie QB. The loss will be to the greatest coach in the history of the NFL. * Allen is 25 years old and in his 4th season. If they lose it will only make him hungrier next year, Ditto for McD & Bean who are both young and at the start of a long & successful run in Buffalo. To suggest a loss would destroy Allen's career and the Bills franchise is delusional. * I would submit that the team and QB facing by far the most pressure this weekend are the LA Rams and Matt Stafford. The Rams have traded away their future to win a Super Bowl NOW. And Stafford is nearing the end of a long career where he has NEVER WON a playoff game. Should Arizona knock the Rams out of the playoffs and Stafford not play well that would have a bad impact on the QB and team going forward.

Breezy in Foxboro is nothing like WINDY at Rich Stadium. Last Sunday the Jets and Bills combined to score 3 points going into the wind. With the wind at their back they scored 34 points.
-
The wind, cold and snow were the primary reasons that the passing game looked choppy the last 2 games. And when played in these conditions a passing game will almost always look out of sync and less then impressive.
-
Your points about running the clock when going into the wind are spot on. That's how the Bills did it back in the day. I would say that two dumb O-line penalties in the 3r quarter probably kept he Bills from scoring another 3 or 7 points going into the wind. The one by Bates was especially bad as it wiped out a McKenzie run that gave us a first down inside the Jet's 30 yard line and his low block had no impact on the actual play. As an aide I was watching the game with some younger Bills fans and they thought I was nuts obsessing over the clock when the Bills were going into the wind. I kept saying "run the clock don't throw the ball" and they just couldn't grasp the concept.
-
IMO that speaks more about the Packer's receivers then Rogers. When it's that cold and the wind is calm catching the ball is a bigger issue then throwing it.
-
Judas Priest. It defies understanding how anyone who has attended a bad weather wind game in Rich Stadium would ever question how much those conditions will impact a passing game and a teams offensive efficiency. My only conclusion is that those who are claiming that the high winds and freezing cold are just an excuse for inconsistent offense play have never actually sat out in a game in those conditions. I call these people out as frauds.
-
Two of the three and outs were a direct result of major penalties on the offense line. At least one was the result of a dropped pass by Davis and all occurred going into the wind. And if the weather sucks for any home playoff games, I'm confident that mediocre statistics aside Allen will outplay the opposing QB by a wide margin.
-
As an aside and it hasn't generated much discussion but Allen pulled off a lateral to Knox for a first down yesterday. It was a great play reminiscent of that Texan playoff game. The fact is we have to get used to Allen superman plays. They will always be there and most will work. We just can't freak out when the occasional one backfires. Life is rarely about having our cake and eating it to.

Daboll's Play Calling -- The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
CincyBillsFan replied to HIT BY SPIKES's topic in The Stadium Wall
I know I'm beating a dead horse here but the weather DOMINATED the offenses yesterday. With the wind at their back the Bills put up 24 points in 2 quarters and gained most of their first downs and yardage (a very healthy 424 yards). Going into the wind the Bills sputtered LIKE EVERY OTHER TEAM IN THE NFL WOULD. When the Bills had the wind they made the most of it. That's how you win Rich Stadium wind games. The problem was that the Bills went into the wind in the 2nd & 3rd quarter which resulted in a magnified sense that the offense was floundering either due to play calling or player performance. Had we had the wind at our backs in the 1st & 3rd quarters we go into the 4th comfortably wining and the offense is deemed to have had a good game. -
The good and the bad (just one each) for you in this game

I can. I must be older then you because I remember the wind games in Rich Stadium. The definition of a good game in those conditions is different then it is on a windless, dry field or in a dome. What I don't get is how you can't see that this was a good game by Allen. Not great, but good. * QB rating over 80 which is good, not great. * No TO's which is great. * Two TD passes and Allen almost had two more is good, not great. * 234 yards passing is good not great. Especially under the wind conditions. * 63 yards rushing is great. Especially since it was mostly in the 4th quarter to put the game away. -

Don't care. That's how these games go. And for the record two of those punts in the 3rd quarter -into the wind - were caused primarily by bad offensive line penalties. -

Of course Allen isn't immune from criticism but in wind conditions like we had at the stadium today he played well. I know it's hard for people to wrap their minds around this statement given that he missed some passes but when the gales are howling completing over half your passes for over 200 yards and 2 TD's is a good day at the office. Then throw in his big runs in the 4th quarter and he played well. If I had the energy and easy access to the data I would love to find out what the average QB rating is when the wind is howling and it's cold at Rich Stadium. I bet that Allen's stats are better then any other QB playing in that stadium under those conditions. -
Week 18, Jest v. Bills, 01/09/22 - GAME BALLS
CincyBillsFan replied to Freddie's Dead's topic in The Stadium Wall
And your Allen hate is clear as day. Do you actually expect every pass to be perfect and on the money? Do you not see how the wind impacts these games? In the really bad weather games played at Rich Stadium has the opposing QB come close to matching Allen? Completing 55% of his passes for 234 yards and 2 TD's with no TO's in these weather conditions is like throwing for 70% completion percentage and 334 yards and 4 TD's. -
1/9/22 Gameday AFCE Champs vs Jets Postgame Thread.
CincyBillsFan replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
And don't forget that in the 3r quarter and going into the wind we had two drives stall out because of offensive line penalties. The 2nd penalty on Bates took back a 10 yard McKenzie run that gave us a first down inside the Jets the 30yard line.
