NFL Week #14 - Jets at Bills - Post game thread
WideNine replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
I look around the league, and I don't see a lot of complete offensive lines. Most have a few solid starters and then fill in with UFAs, castoffs, and practic squad quality players as starters. Mobile QBs, strong running games, and getting the ball out faster helps mask a lot of shoddy OL play. Dawkins took a step back since he was hospitalized with that long Covid stretch... just seems a bit off his game and just not as dominant although that was a nasty block he threw in the game to spring Allen. He is still a good LT. Brown is just in his second year and had back surgery so not sure what to expect from him. Bates is starting to grow into the guard role and he is a straight-up UFA development project we picked up from Philly. I focused on Saffold's play this game and he is a liability in pass pro more often than not. The dude's feet seem like they are encased in cement - struggles lining up any blocks - if Boettger can go down the road, the Bills should seriously consider sitting Saffold. Beane has not shown an ability to nail his OL drafts as yet or assess the talent he has (Ford/Teller), it would be great if he coud hit on a solid draft for a player that could play both Center and Guard and be above average at both positions. -

10 of those runs were Allen and less than a handful of those I think were designed. I don't mind him taking off when he sees the secondary drop back into zone and they are running that wide nine that he can get under it and he sees some room to get close to the sticks, but I am not behind him being the lead ball carrier in almost every game. Especially not in a game like this where we should be pounding that C gap with the way the Jets lines the DEs wide, and where they lost their star in the middle in Williams, and the weather is such that receivers are dropping balls left and right. It is not being down on the team to call out Dorsey and say he has to do a better job, or they need to run his game plan through a committee of coaches to be sure it is sound. It is his first year and there is a lot of experience on the offensive staff - should not be afraid to tap into that experience coming up with game plans while he grows into the role. But who knows, maybe it is a committee approach, Shula and Kromer have been around the block a few times. Not sure how much input Dorsey takes from the coaches around him. Would be an interesting question to pose to him, how game plans are developed over the course of a week. -

I won't get drawn into a Beasley-specific discussion, BUT I would agree that this offense hums when it has a true posession slot WR. I think Crowder was just starting to come along when the injury bug hit again and left us with no great options for the slot. -

Cheer up Promo. You are not far off, but the Bills did manage to pull out the win. The loss of Daboll cannot be just swept under the carpet. He was a good coach. Drove me nuts sometimes, but was able to find a way to get a lot of weapons involved on offense and get points on the board. He has not done too shabby with the NYG in his first season to help right that ship. Winning has brought its own challenges and losing coaches and FO personnel is going to be part of that equation. Also, every team brings their "A" game against the Bills. Winning programs like ours are considered a benchmark for teams to measure themselves. -

With Dane it has just been his inability to get his head around and play the ball. He has been the favorite target of opposing QBs for a reason. Decent recovery speed, and when he can keep plays in front of him with an eye to the QB, like the zone he played today, he is able to knock balls down and disrupt passes. 7th rounder who has drawn some tough assignments this season. -

I try not to get to up or down on players. They are either playing up to their potential or not, playing through injuries factors of couse. If they are playing their best, then it is up to the coaches to put them where they can have the most success. Dane looked better today in zone than he has when playing man. Scheme, game plan, and situation/clock management I lay squarely on coaching in any game the good or the bad. In wins I often think there are things that can be improved. I don't just look for those when we are handed a loss. There are some real positives I could focus more on. Allen's play seems to be coming a bit more into focus since the GB game; some got away from him early, seemed to take some time to adjust to field conditions. Special Teams has been solid this year. Punts have been solid as well as coverage, kicking game and FGs too. Cook has shown some flash and I wish we could see some more plays designed to get the ball to him. The way he held on while taking the hit he took deserves some confidence and more touches. Jones and the interior DL is vastly improved and our DEs are coming on at the right time. Diggs is solid and is going to draw their best cover DB and help. Others need to step up as he creates the opportunities and space they should be able to exploit. -

That was not the best decision. Not going to measure our coaching decisions by theirs, but think heir OC Lafleur overall is on a good trajectory. They have had some terrible injuries across their OL and lost their rookie RB who was showing a lot of promise. Still have stayed competitive, but that defense helps erase mistakes, much the same as ours this year. Not a bad team and they are going to stay tough if they keep drafting the way they have. -

Agreed. I did not like the 3rd down conversions, but it was clear that Frazier was willing to give up those outside throws to the flat but take away anything deeper. When he gambled with the extra rusher they often got home. Dane plays better in zone with the receivers in front of him and where he can track the ball. -

Mike White cleared during the game and just heard he went to the hospital after the game. Makes you wonder? -

We have a good team that can beat good teams even when not playing our best game. -

What about our receivers handling passes today made that a high-percentage play. It stopped the clock, and that was dumb. Draining the clock when you are up by a few scores is playing to win. -

Dorsey killed my mood apologies all around. Great that we pulled out the win despite his game plan. Credit to the coaching staff for that short yardage play that drew the Jets offside. That was a bright spot. Felt that Allen got the ball where it needed to be quite a bit, but receivers could not find the handle with the wet ball. We need to find an OC that knows how to create a game plan for the elements because it's Buffalo. Will just leave it at that. Good run against the AFC East, just need to keep up the momentum and continue to get guys healthy. -

Just not impressed this year with Dorsey's spread offense mentality that ignores defenses, elements, and game clock situations. He owes Allen and the defense for bailing out his crap game plan. I am glad this defense balled out, and we made enough plays to win. Too many game balls to hand out. Had that weak showing after the half, but credit the Jets for seeing something they could adjust to and exploit. Shout out to Bass too, who has been solid. -
Knox has not recovered the consistency he had last year... catches some tough ones and still drops some easy ones. We could still look around for a pass catching TE that is consistent for Allen, I know he a d Knox are tight. We may have seen what we have in Knox... a great athlete who is a streaky pass catcher.
-
Win. Much harder than it needed to be. Rain, snow, and the Jets lose Williams in the middle and Dorsey loses the thin run play section of his play book.
-
Dane plays the ball again. That's two.
-
It was sarcasm... I know I should have found the right emoji. Just he finally calls a run.
-
I am just so pissed at him right now I can't even think straight. I just have not seen enough from him to justify not looking outside for an OC that can inject some balance into this offense... Probably could have used more time as an assistant OC before taking the leap from the QB room.
-
There and in about 20 other situations where he didn’t. Pouring rain and snow and a combined 11 rushes between Motor and Cook.
-
Frazier's give up deep passes defense.
-
Just horrible offensive execution and Dorsey finally runs on a 3rd and forever. One and done this season as OC I hope. No feel for game situation. Makes these games far harder than they need to be.
-
McD needs to get in Dorsey's headset and correct his dumb before he finds a way to piss this game away.
-
I know. Dorsey is a f'n clown. Just dumb.
-
Guy holding Lawson's foot but he got free.

Dane played a ball. Nice.
