Devin Singletary not scoring a TD with 34 seconds left
WideNine replied to chongli's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think it was the right decision because of how our defense was playing and because Miami has two really good deep threat receivers that can high point and catch contested balls. The commentators last night were surprised by the move so I am not sure it is what all players are coached to do. And one played the game. Then again it was Sanchez whose claim to fame is the butt fumble. -

I think some folks are confused that I am panning the decision. I am not. Just trying to think about what MAY have gone into that decision being made. Of course we don't know for sure unless McD actually came out and said something to clarify his thoughts or direction given on that series. I have not seen any consistency in this team's ability to break up the long passes ( think of all the 3rd and longs we surrender) and Miami has two solid burners with good hands. I factor leaving them time on the clock with that in mind too. -

I have no problem saying I am not 100% confident that our secondary would not give up a long pass for a score. Guess I am the only one that has seen them do this... recently too. -

Good question about maybe Singletary acted on his own. No way to know for sure. Seems like a hell of a risky move for a player to decide on his own. I could see the offense being told to leave as little time on the clock as possible as we still had one timeout to stop the clock. -

Tough call as there have only been a very few cases where players have intentionally stopped before the goal line. Certainly not enough times and situations to create any meaningful analytics. In the absence of that you are left with coaches going with their hunches. It was clear that McD had more confidence that they could run off the clock and that Bass would kick the game winner than he had with us scoring and leaving Miami 30+ seconds and I think they still had 1 or 2 timeouts left. -

Even Allen admitted that he was bailed out and knew he was supposed to throw that ball quickly or throw it away to allow a kick before the half. I think most of the negatives coming from former QB game commentators directed at Allen that sound like sour grapes is that Allen, more often than not, gets away with breaking all the rules. Rules they could never have gotten away with breaking because Allen is a freak of nature. -

Some could ask the same question about listening to you, we were tied at the time and a kick is not a given. Folks are making a good argument that you take the points. So that begs the question why did they not take the points, but instead chose to lie down at the one yard line and risk a kick missing and going into OT? It's a legit question. -

I do think Hill and the KC 13 seconds was looming in the coaching staff's head. Not a vote of confidence in your D, but I can see how it drove that decision. Not saying I agreed with it. -
So, reading the board, we lost again. 3-11. Sigh.

They are all fans of the team, just wired differently or have different things they focus on. Some guys are film junkies and will point out the good and the bad plays. Some like to focus on personnel and have an eye towards the future draft or free agency to shore up weak areas on the team. Some focus on both. Some will see the scoreboard come into focus at the end of a game with beer goggles and think the team played awesome the whole game. I can say this for certain. The rose-colored glasses were hard to find from most of the posters through most of the 2nd half game thread. At one point I predicted exactly this thread. I think around the mark where we plowed into their punter and gave them a fresh set of downs that led to another Miami score. I said, "If the Bills manage to pull a diamond out of this pile of crap, tomorrow there will be folks that claim it doesn't smell like poop". And here we are. The Bills played poorly for long stretches, the defense tightened up a bit in crunch time, Allen went off, the snow fell, and even better we squished the fish. We won and I am glad, but I hope we are able to fix some of the areas where we were exposed during the game so we can be an even better team. The Bills find a way and are becoming more clutch in tight games. -

It was easy to see how hyped Josh was early in this game - balls were sailing on him. That is not new with Allen. Daboll used to throw in some QB runs early to let Allen feel some contact and get "into" the game and take some of that edge off; Dorsey should think about doing the same. It is just how Allen is wired. The big kid gets up grinning ear to ear late in games when he runs and take on a few defenders and gets into a scrum downfield. He also gets more dialed in as we see later in the 1st half and later in the 2nd half of games. -

I will have to see that as I know folks were on Tre for losing a step or 2 on Cheetah (of course Miami is going to try to find ways to avoid him getting jammed at the line and he has wheels), but that is where your deep safety should be providing support. And Hamlin just shows up late and with an angle that does not allow him to make a play to break up passes. When he comes down in run support he takes bad angles too and often gets caught in the wash. Much like Jackson, there are probably good plays, but they seem to be around bad plays too often. -

Our defense had me concerned most of the game, the interior which has been stout against the run was on their heels quite a bit and Miami was getting push. By simply adding a fullback Miami had a lot of success blocking runs and I don't think Frazier had any good answers for it. Hamlin was simply brutal in pass support as that second deep safety or when the team went single high. Just way too slow to react and take the appropriate angles to cut off and double receivers going deep. Not sure what the team sees in him other than the other options must be worse. Taron quietly had a decent game and Elam played physical. Almost too physical I thought till I focused on the holding and grabbing Miami DBs were getting away with. -

We've been banging the drum for Beane to address that C/G role in the draft. We have passed on some good ones... hoping Mitch is OK, but losing count of his concussions. Some strong candidates in this years draft too... we will probably draft a smallish 3 tech DT or DE.... time to invest in that OL. Hoping we get Boettger and Bates back soon they are pretty solid. -

True. We were getting gashed by runs all game long and Hamlin was just brutal out there at S. -

Their punter did a good job of pinning us deep. He was dialed in. A few I wanted Hines to let bounce by him for a better chance of going into the EZ vs him fielding them on the 3 yard line. -

Don't worry, if the Bills pull a diamond from this steaming pile of crap and win, folks will be all over you if you dare say the diamond smells like poop. -

This is not a well coached team. Well coached teams do not do this crap. Are you kidding me??? -

Bet Creed would look good in the middle of our line right now. A lot of investment on a defense that has been just surrendering yards today. -

The Hamlin experiment needs to end. He is soo bad. That deep pass Tre had to track down he was so late coming over.... Just does anticipate or take the angles safeties are supposed to take -
