Yeah I agree it's a long shot at best he's even an NFL back up at this point but throwing Allen to the wolves when he clearly isn't ready either is a terrible plan. Bills have just invested too much in this kid to needlessly ruin him like that. McBeane have really F'd this up IMO. I'd start Peterman vs. Chargers as the lesser of two evils. When he inevitably fails, you bring Allen in again to play second half. Depending how that goes maybe you consider starting him week 3. Personally, I'd be looking for a QB in a trade who can finish out the year. I don't think Allen will be the guy either - trying to teach a kid how to play the position when he's never proven capable at any of the lower levels rarely works - but if he's going to become a capable player it'll be because they brought him along at the right pace, and didn't destroy his confidence early. That kid needs patience as much as anything.

I think the decision to pull him so early was warranted. He had happy feet back there and was starting to force things like he did against Chargers. Plus, because we were down by so much it was a nice, pressure free environment to get Allen some extended NFL reps. I'd give Peterman one more chance to prove he's an NFL QB. If he flames out again next week against the team that humiliated him last year, then I think you consider trading for a vet QB and cutting him. It's harsh, but he doesn't seem able to rebound when things don't go his way early. Otherwise you're just keeping him to lose on purpose or to be a second year "vet" QB room guy which seems like a waste of a roster spot.

Unreasonable expectations. That's my big takeaway reading this board leading up to this disaster. Despite some talent on the defense, this is one of the worst rosters top to bottom in the NFL. Bills are certainly better than 47-3 but anyone who thought this team was competing for playoffs this year wasn't thinking rationally IMO. There are lots of things to nitpick but our QB situation is so bad I actually think McBeane might be in a little bit of trouble even though it's only year two and we made playoffs last year. There are more competent NFL QBs than ever. Instead we go into the season with nothing but Peterman and Allen? This reminds me of when the Sixers wouldn't sign a point guard a few years ago because they were gunning for the top pick. The McCarron signing was wishful thinking at best. Allen better prove capable soon or this could get ugly. I wouldn't be surprised to see us panic trade for a vet QB if Peterman doesn't rebound. We just made the Ravens look like the SB winning team from 2013. I'm sorry but they're not that good.

The national media is sleeping on Peterman who will be better than people think. He makes good, quick decisions with the ball. He can't throw long outs or over the top. We also don't receivers who are getting open on long outs or over the top so it isn't really an opportunity cost. If Allen plays early, we'll lose a lot. Probably top 3 pick. If McD waits until week 10 or later to start JA we'll be far from the worst team in the league record-wise.

He's the perfect stalking horse for the coaching staff. He's just good enough to win some games and help evaluate the rest of the offense in a transition year, but won't win enough to prevent Allen a chance to play later in the year. This way even if Allen comes in and sucks McBeane can use the excuse that he needs more reps, and they'll get another year to develop their boy.

How much you want to bet Richie has CTE. He's showing a lot of the early behavioral signs.

Given that currently Darnold looks light years ahead of Allen, I'm going to say Darnold.

It hasn't been all bad but the trend of relying on Carolina retreads coupled with the head-scratching-in-the-moment decisions to trade all our best draft capital for Allen (a QB with very high bust potential) and Edmunds (a LB who might need to make a position switch) is tough to rationalize. Have to wait and see.

Last year's record was inflated due to Bills weak schedule and unsustainable positive turnover margin. They were closer to a 7-9 team than a 9-7 team. The losses of RI and EW can't be overstated, especially when you consider their replacements. And as much as Bills fans like to hate on TT he was competent, and a solid compliment to McCoy and the run game. He didn't always make plays but he rarely made mistakes. That likely won't be case with either Peterman or Allen. Hopefully the defense is good again. Bills had incredible injury luck last year on that side of the ball.

Peterman will get the nod. Allen will take over somewhere between week 5-10 when it becomes clear we're out of the playoff race. Allen will then be benched before the season is out when it becomes clear he just isn't the guy.

Has anyone followed his career closely enough to get an idea of what type of offense he likes to run? He was OC for some pretty brutal offenses in Cleveland and Miami but he's also moved around some since. I have no feel for what to expect from him which is kind of exciting but also a little scary.

No. If anything this helps clarify things for the team. Wish that would have been done sooner, but we have 5th rounder for our troubles. Now Peterman gets his chance to prove he can be a franchise QB rather than just a placeholder. Fingers crossed. Also, it opens up another roster spot on a team that needs all the extra roster spots it can get. Put plainly, the Bills just don't have enough talent in the building for luxuries like keeping three QBs.

Is Bodine really going to start over Groy? Also, I can't believe we're going into the season with Ducasse starting at LG. If Teller isn't ready then surely there's a recently released guard out there capable of taking that job. Maybe trading away all our top picks for a QB who doesn't know how to play QB and a mike LB who probably needs to be a will LB wasn't the smartest move after all. It's not like they didn't know OL was a huge concern going into the draft. I feel like there's an appropriate level of concern right now.

Has anyone bought into Allen yet? I just can't get there. When has teaching a kid how to be a QB when he's never proven capable of being an elite QB at lower levels ever worked? He doesn't make quick decisions. He doesn't make the right decisions. He isn't accurate with the football. He doesn't appear to have good touch on his passes. This guy looks like taller JP Losman out there. It's not like all this info wasn't available going into the draft. Yet Beane and McDermott pay the price equivalent of the number one overall pick to move to seven to take him. Between the Allen reach, throwing away all that draft capital, and all the Carolina re-treads, I'm starting to lose faith in this new regime. That's the worst part. I actually bought in to those guys. Please someone convince me I'm wrong. Edit: my biggest fear is McDermott will wait until week 8-10 to play Allen, and then pass on a legit QB with our inevitable top 5 pick because Allen needs more time. I sincerely hope we give him the chance to prove boom or bust this year.
