  1. @Penfield45 I am still looking for some clarification as to why the Ravens are better and more dynamic running the ball this year?
  2. Panthers hired Scott Fitterer from Seattle. 5/7 GM spots are now accounted for. ATL - Fontenot (Supposedly done, can’t be made official until Saints eliminated from playoffs) CAR - Fitterer DEN - Paton DET - Holmes HOU - Caserio Unaccounted for... JAX WSH Neither organization has requested to interview members of our front office, although that can change. I don’t think JAX poaches anyone from us, and despite the Carolina connection with Rivera in WSH they don’t seem interested in anyone we have, and Dan Morgan is the only one with CAR ties. It looks extremely likely that the entire group will remain together.
  3. Did we watch the same video? Maybe I missed it, but Cosell doesn’t even say that in there? It was a 2 minute segment on Bills/Ravens. He spent the first 30 seconds talking about how these two teams played last year and Buffalo did a really good job, but they played out of their base defense (that was one of the only times we played extensively out of our base defense, we play Nickel a lot under McDermott), and this year they play in Nickel 90% of the time with Taron Johnson assuming LB responsibilities (and he says Johnson is VERY good at it). Then he says very briefly the Ravens added some counter-gap schemes along with the “Lamar Jackson factor.” He then says it’s all about stopping the run and how you try to stop it, and then goes into his 1 minute blurb on the Bills. He went on to say that as much as Josh likes to escape the pocket to make plays, he’s going to have to make plays from the pocket in this game to win. Basically insinuating Josh hasn’t been able to do that this year. Overall in that 2 minute clip, Cosell didn’t provide me anything of actual substances and he seems pretty ill informed.
  4. There were 7 GM openings going into this off-season. 3 have now been filled. DET - Holmes HOU - Caserio DEN- Paton ATL- Looks like Rick Smith it Fontenot CAR- Has 4 finalists JAX- Ray Farmer is the rumor? WSH - Team without a strong connection yet. Seems more and more likely we keep the band together in the front office. HC wise there are 7 openings as well. JAX is the first shoe to drop. It looks like Daboll will either go to LAC or stay... would be huge if we could stick around and win a Super Bowl and keep Daboll for another season. For some reason teams seem to be coveting other HC, maybe Daboll isn’t that hot of a candidate OR they know he’s LAC bound.
  5. I have no idea the discussion’s Daboll has had with McDermott/The Bills but it wouldn’t shock me if there was an agreement in place for Daboll to leave certain staff members alone if he takes a HC job elsewhere this off-season. I’ve seen it happen before where they agree on certain names or agree that if they leave nobody is touched. I don’t think we get gutted, and if we do lose some staff members it’s going to be lower level guys. We have to remember Daboll has connections all across the league, most of his offensive staff here was already in place when he got here, they’re not necessarily his guys.
  6. Actually this is what you’re supposed to do. They were down 24 - 16 after the touchdown. He was going to kick the XP but after the penalty he decided to go for it. If they convert the 2 pt conversion it makes it a 2 FG game. If they don’t convert, the probability is very high that they convert the two point conversion the next time they score. In one scenario you don’t have to score a TD to tie it. In the scenario you kick the XP or don’t convert the 2 pt play you have to score a TD. It was absolutely the right call analytically. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/nfl/colts/2021/01/09/colts-vs-bills-why-frank-reich-made-right-decision-fourth-and-goal-4/6609839002/
  7. I totally get where you’re coming from and I used to think it was quite a bit of BS. Although my mind was changed about 2 year’s ago, I work with pro athletes, albeit in a different sport. I actually picked this up in talking to coaches, generally they’re former players and they talk about how they went on strike for better pay and treatment, it was for future generations, etc. they try and pass that on to players who play today. The NFLPA is going to do the same thing because it’s lead by former players and it’s for players. Coaches, agents and advisors are going to impart that same wisdom.
  8. I agree with you on Josh, but there’s usually a feeling that players have to get paid for other players and for future generations of players. If you can get a big deal, you take a big deal because it helps guys out later. I’m sure the NFLPA and his peers wouldn’t look too kindly at a star like Josh taking a below market deal, because there won’t be context in future negotiation and teams will just say “we’re not paying you significantly more than Allen.” Because Josh didn’t take the most he could get it lowers the bar for others.
  9. I’ve been shouting this from the rooftops for months. There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s just that Baker can’t win on his own. I looked a few weeks back and the Browns are something like 1-15 when Baker throws more than 35 times. Less than 35 times and they’re around .500. He doesn’t win you games on his own. I think Cleveland gives Baker a bridge deal like Watson got, there was a lot of talk that they might move on from him, but I don’t think they can do that now. He will get something like 4/160. The Ravens are committed to Lamar, he’s going to get a huge deal, probably the biggest of the 3. The Ravens have won a lot with him, he has a MVP trophy, finally got a playoff win. It’s not going to be Mahomes territory but the Ravens have to pay him, if they don’t they run the risk of insulting him and calling him a RB, without actually saying it. The only difference between him and Mahomes right now is he hasn’t won a Super Bowl. I think Buffalo gives Josh a 10 year deal, I’m just not sure where the money sits. There’s no doubt he’s the guy, and he’s the best of the 3. He will get more than Baker, but probably less than Lamar, unless he takes us to a Super Bowl this year.
  10. It's simple. McDermott read all the people on this message board saying he didn't know opposing player's names. Seeing the McDermott has a growth mindset, he's now going to list EVERY name possible when he has a chance - even his own players. This is because he heard us here and wanted to be sure to make the proper adjustment!
  11. He usually has pretty poor takes, so yeah, makes sense.
  12. Okay, now you’re stating stats from 2020. What is it, man? At first it had something to do with their historical success compared to the Bills historical success? Now it’s their 2020 stats? Their age has something to do with their ability to perform? You’re just throwing a whole bunch of random crap at all wall and hoping that it forms your argument. However you break it down the Colts were top 10 in all 3 phases of the game. That’s not average, average is middle of the pack. There are 32 NFL teams, if you’re in the top 10 in something, you’re above average. Words have definitions for a reason, use them properly. Average: a number expressing the central or typical value in a set of data
  13. How does this even make any sense? You’re comparing this year’s Colts team to Colts teams of the past and because they’re not one of the top 10 teams in the history of their franchise they can’t stand up against a top 5 team in Bills franchise history? That’s just bad analysis. The Colts historical success and the Bills historical success have zero impact on how these two teams match up in 2020.
  14. Kamara made someone think twice it seems. 930 rushing with 16 TD, 83/750/5 He put up #1 RB numbers and #2 WR numbers... he missed a game too.
  15. He was on the injury report because of it. Weeks 5-10 and came off the injury report after the bye in Week 12.
  16. Ben Baldwin wrote an article predicting the MVP race today. Using the same method he’s predicted the last two MVPs, Mahomes and Jackson. This year he had his final 4 as Rodgers, Mahomes, Allen and Tannehill... because QBs are inherently more valuable than any other position, as long as MVP has the word “valuable” in it, it should go to a QB. Right at the onset he said it’s only a two man race: Rodgers and Mahomes. He threw out Tannehill and Allen for different reasons. “To placate Bills and Titans fans: Josh Allen had a great season that should make Bills fans excited for the upcoming playoff run and thrilled about the future. A mid-season slump — by his standards — was enough to knock the Bills out of contention for the No. 1 seed and Allen for the MVP award. Ryan Tannehill had a great season and led the league’s second-best offense, but I don’t think he has an argument over Mahomes or Rodgers. And on Derrick Henry, don’t even think about it: The Titans gained 166 EPA on Tannehill dropbacks and 31 EPA on Henry rush attempts.” He pretty much said that Josh’s mid-season slump took him out of the race, if I’m reading that directly. I went and looked at Josh’s mid-season slump using Baldwin’s metrics to evaluate Mahomes last 4 weeks of the season, which many commented was a drop-off from his normal play. Here are the results... Allen Weeks 5-8 Plays: 166 EPA+CPOE: 0.099 EPA/PLAY: 0.156 Un Adj. EPA: .127 CPOE: -0.6 Mahomes Weeks 13-16 Plays: 193 EPA+CPOE: 0.093 EPA/PLAY: 0.165 Un Adj. EPA: 0.128 CPOE: -2.2 There is virtually no difference... Josh Allen's mid-season slump by his metrics is identical to Patrick Mahomes end of the season slump... So I take it the argument now falls to the fact that Mahomes and the Chiefs were the #1 seed, that's why he's mentioned as a finalist with Rodgers? 17. Teams have tried it since we played KC in week 6. Josh has shown he can adjust to it now.
  18. "It doesn't really bother me or flatter me all that much," Allen said in December. "I'm an extremely self-driven person. I have a lot of confidence in myself. I take ownership of the last couple years, the mishaps and miscues, and understand that I was growing and learning. But the apology letter, the form or whatever you want to call it? I guess it was cool. It was something to talk about.” I’m on record talking about this somewhere and I love Josh discussing it. He’s self-motivated which is way more sustainable and healthy than the Baker Mayfield style of having a list of every person who’s ever doubted him. Josh has his moments, like Fresno State, but the kid was hurt by that. He grew up a huge fan and they labeled him “not competitive” at their camps.
  19. Excellent point. Everyone saw Josh Allen at Wyoming and leading up to the draft. This is how they formed their opinions on Josh Allen. Then when he arrived in Buffalo they didn’t see him as much. They probably saw some “wow” throws in highlight reels, but were also privy to some lowlight reels where he missed a target pretty bad (a friend of mine who trashes Josh Allen every time he gets sent me one of these videos from Week 1 just recently when Josh overthrew Brown in the EZ as his sole proof that “Josh is bad”). Overall folks saw his Wyoming numbers and some highlights to form their initial opinion. Then they saw some Bills highlights and his numbers weren’t really much different and said “see I told you so.” Instead of watching him actually progress week to week like we have because we’re fans of the team. Mostly everyone outside of Buffalo formed their opinion, closed their eyes for 3 years, opened their eyes and now are taken aback. Whereas I watched him every week, saw the incremental improvement and I’m not as shocked. Don’t get me wrong, he took like 3 years worth of leaps from last season to this season, but I’m not necessarily shocked.
  20. Are you sure? I am almost positive Merriam-Webster updated the definition of class to exactly what you laid out above!
  21. Yeah they came out today and said Gettleman is safe. With Rivera in DC now, it gives us competition for former Panthers... so sad. I don’t think SF would do that, unless DEN wants to mortgage their future. Lynch and Shannahan have really done a great job there.
  22. I think it’s Bienemy’s job, I think Watson is going to have a lot of say as to who the HC is.
  23. 5 GM spots left open. JAX, ATL, DET, CAR, DEN (Maybe WSH) Most worried about losing Schoen this year to CAR. I think Hurney either ends up the GM in WSH or here in Buffalo under Beane. ATL seems to really want Terry Fontenot. CAR I think will hire Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. Rhule seems to be in charge there and Adofo-Mensah has a strong analytics background which they’re covering. Detroit is a wild card. Jacksonville depends on Urban Meyer IMO. Denver will be someone who feels comfortable with Elway.
  24. We tried to sign Juszcyzk in 2017 but he chose SF and we signed DiMarco instead. I wouldn’t be shocked if we targeted him again. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.buffalorumblings.com/platform/amp/buffalo-bills-nfl-free-agency-2017/2017/3/8/14854070/buffalo-bills-baltimore-ravens-fb-kyle-juszczyk-2017-nfl-free-agency
