New sale of team thread
BillnutinHouston replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure where we disagree. My point was that bidders do not gain anything by publicly positioning themselves as being the highest bidder. In fact the process (through the NDAs) discourages that. I do agree with you (to a point) that if Pegula were to show up at the HoF game or training camp, it would give the fans some jollies and maybe put some type of weird pressure on the trust from a PR standpoint, however I think we can conclude from his actions to date that Pegula has NO interest in putting the trust in this position, has no interest in cheap publicity stunts and has calculated that taking the high road is the surest route to success. I happen to think his approach is the correct one. But I also don't see where JBJ would gain by publicly posturing, either. -

So if the reported numbers aren't publicly refuted then they are true? My bar is set a lot higher than that. I think we're now in the territory where just the "grown-ups" are playing, and they're subject to the NDAs. The grown ups (OK, maybe not necessarily Trump) don't feel the need to correct the record if the reported numbers aren't true. For example, if JBJ actually bid $1.4B, he wouldn't leak that his actual bid was higher than what was reported. He wouldn't need to since the court of public opinion just doesn't matter - it's only about the number that Morgan Stanley is looking at. What am I missing? As I read it, the story that you link to never states that Pegula's bid is the highest. -

Serious question - do any of you really believe in the accuracy of the "leaked" numbers? Very few people have access to that info, and I don't see whose agenda is served by leaks coming from those that do have that info. I'd expect the sale price to approach a record level, so with that being the case I don't see Mary Wilson playing the leaking game. -
Let's Make a Statement This Weekend

Interesting point. It's certainly a leaguewide showcase for Bills fans. Anything (classy) that can be done to reinforce the image of Bills fandom strength, certainly wouldn't hurt. On a practical level, though, I'm not sure it would really influence much in the sale process. -
I was surprised to learn from John Murphy's show (aired right after Ralph passed) that Breer actually grew up in Michigan and his family was very close to Ralph's family. He knew Ralph quite well growing up, and has long been a personal friend of the Wilson family.

Guys, I've been out of the loop on vacation for awhile and haven't heard much about Cordy Glenn. Not sure how anyone can make predictions without knowing his status. Do you guys know something I don't?

Outstanding work by JW. He just blew JBJ out of the water. No need to put this in front of the trustees. They're paying attention. -

Update on renovations to The Ralph

Cry me a river... Fantastic venue? I'm as positive as the next guy but a few scoreboards, additional urinals and more places to swipe your card for a beer and it's fantastic? Is that all it takes? -

So I made my call today. Basically stated that the bill was getting too large and I needed some help. The first guy was offering only 25% off ST Max, so I said I needed to cancel altogether. My wife doesn't believe me, but I really was going to cancel if they didn't help me out. I get transferred to the next Dept, most likely retention, and after fending off the rep's attempts to get me to move into a cheaper package, we got down to brass tacks. I ended up getting $15 off for the next 12 months ($180 credit), free Showtime for 3 months, and a free upgrade to Max. Last year I didn't have Max so I'm looking forward to the Red Zone and the Shortcut channels. It wasn't quite the haul I had last year (free ST plus $225 in additional credits), but I'm satisfied getting ST at 75% off and a free upgrade to Max. -

Jeffrey Gundlach to explore Bills purchase
BillnutinHouston replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll agree with the latter half of this statement. Being profitable and generating sufficient return on investment are two different things entirely. I would argue that ROI is definitely driven by the team's market size and socioeconomic makeup. Some prospective owners may be fine with investing $1 billion and making $30 million a year, others not so much. Some potential investors (those who aren't hardcore sportsmen) will decide they can make more money on their money with other investments. -
Agree. I'm just surprised that an effort like this would be launched by the preeminent grassroots "Buffalo fan group" with little publicity and even less demonstrated support. Why the BFA wouldn't themselves solicit support from fan boards like this one is puzzling to me. Anyway, if this thread punches up the numbers a bit then I've done my part.

...or so the media has speculated. -
Were you aware that the Buffalo Fan Alliance posted an open letter on its website, seeking signatures to a letter urging the NFL to keep the Bills in Buffalo? Most likely not - currently there's only fewer than 1,800 signatures. I wonder if the paltry number is due to poor marketing or because people fear being solicited by the BFA. The open letter can be found at http://www.buffalofanalliance.org/.
