Mason Rudolph has tiny hands

Not sure how to embed the tweets here, but here's a bunch of throws from Allen and one from Mayfield https://twitter.com/DustinFox37/status/956243954936279041 https://twitter.com/DustinFox37/status/956245265559769088 https://twitter.com/DustinFox37/status/956251807373656064 https://twitter.com/DustinFox37/status/956252401685745665 https://twitter.com/DustinFox37/status/956257714614755328

Sure, if you theoretically knew it would all pay off in 7 years, you could justify paying the guy until he's actually worth the money, but nobody has that luxury. If you draft a guy and work with him for 4 or 5 years and he still sucks after that time, there's simply no way you can reasonably sign him to another contract with the faith that it'll click in a couple more years. You would have to be certifiably insane.
-
I promise you that if you worked for an NFL team and told them "We don't need a QB. In 7 years, I have a feeling this guy might be pretty good" and you then proceeded to wait through years of watching said QB suck, you'd be fired long before you ever got near Year 7. It simply isn't an option. If a QB still sucks by the end of their rookie contract, there is no justifiable reason to give them a second contract.

No, I think he was projected as a Day 3 or undrafted guy before this week.

I eliminated a few teams that I don't foresee making any changes. Red = rookies, blue = free agents/trades Arizona: Teddy Bridgewater, Baker Mayfield, scrub veteran Atlanta: Matt Ryan, Kyle Lauletta Baltimore: Joe Flacco, Kurt Benkert Buffalo: Sam Darnold, Nate Peterman Carolina: Cam Newton, scrub veteran (possibly bringing Derek Anderson back) Cleveland: Tyrod Taylor, Josh Allen Dallas: Dak Prescott, Sam Bradford Denver: Kirk Cousins, Trevor Siemien Jacksonville: Blake Bortles, Mike White Kansas City: Pat Mahomes, scrub veteran Miami: Ryan Tannehill, Lamar Jackson Minnesota: Case Keenum, Mason Rudolph New England: Tom Brady, Luke Falk New Orleans: Drew Brees, Chase Litton Jets: Josh Rosen, Petty/Hack Seattle: Russell Wilson, scrub veteran Washington: Alex Smith, Colt McCoy, Riley Ferguson

Walter is a despicable person, but Charlie Campbell is pretty well-connected and is generally one of the most accurate mock-draft guys out there.
-
It's pretty much consensus at this point that Allen is a top 5-10 prospect, with Mel Kiper even having him as the #1 pick right now. Allen is going to come across well in the interviews and his physical tools will continue to wow scouts even if the accuracy/footwork isn't there yet. He's certainly in the conversation to be the 1st QB taken.
-
Them meeting with every other QB (sans Lauletta and Tanner Lee) makes me feel better about them meeting with Rudolph. I'm just so concerned they'll take Rudolph in the 1st or 2nd round and i'll be so disappointed. Interviewing everyone else at least gives me the hope that it's just due diligence though.

Jeremiah isn't saying Barkley will be the #1 pick in the draft. He's saying he's the best player in the draft. Just because he's the best player doesn't necessarily mean it makes sense to take him there value wise. For example, all the big boards from last year that didn't have a QB listed in their top 20 didn't mean that they thought Trubisky, Watson, and Mahomes were all reaches on draft day.

Mason Rudolph has tiny hands

He had a family emergency and is expected to arrive there sometime around now; his measurements will reportedly be released tomorrow morning. -
This is a great draft for RBs. Michel looks very good (assuming you trust him to stay healthy). I personally like Ronald Jones the most (excluding Barkley since Buffalo has no shot at him), but there's like 10-15 good looking RBs in this class.
-
I like him too, but his hands measured out to be relatively small and now people are going back and noticing that he double-caught a lot of balls this year. I'm kinda intrigued with Washington; he has a weird build. Only a little under 5'11" but his wingspan is the same as Ateman's and his hands are pretty large; curious to see how he tests at the combine/how his routes look. He's generally considered to be a raw route runner who's more smooth rather than explosive athletically. I'm not convinced any of the 3 OKST guys will be taken before the 3rd round.

Height, weight, hand size, yes. Not ball velocity; that's just a Combine thing. http://walterfootball.com/seniorbowl2018weighinQB.php -
No, his advanced stats are just not good at all. His accuracy is below par to begin with, but add to that the fact that he plays in a pro style system (rather than the open spreads most of the other guys are in) with a truly wretched supporting cast that probably don't deserve to be playing Division 1 football and you have all the ingredients you need for some ugly numbers.

PFF grades him as like the actual worst QB in the entire draft. I'm not sure they'd have him in their mock even if it were a 7 round mock.

[Please Change Title]Kyle Lauletta
DCOrange replied to Wideright24's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is definitely the big concern with him from the games I've watched at least. He'd probably be a decent fit for the offensive scheme I expect Buffalo to utilize, but not necessarily in Buffalo's atmosphere. -
[Please Change Title]Kyle Lauletta

I've watched a few of his games...I prefer him over Mason Rudolph at least. I have Lauletta as my #6 QB right now (the top 5 all being deserving of being taken in the 1st round IMO). He shows really good ball placement on his throws. However, I don't think the arm strength is very good. Rudolph also doesn't have good arm strength, but he's at least able to get the ball downfield by adding more arc to it; Rudolph just struggles to throw with velocity (and does have a tendency to underthrow due to putting too much arc). Lauletta's velocity is probably slightly better than Rudolph, but he struggles more to actually get it down the field. He also, much like Rudolph, doesn't show very much in terms of going through progressions. Lastly, he's already had a torn ACL, which isn't a career ending thing anymore, but obviously it's not a great thing to have in your medical history. I'm definitely curious to see how he looks at the Senior Bowl and Combine; for now, I'd be alright taking him in like the 3rd round. With his ball placement, I think there's at least some hope that he can turn into a starting QB; the only QB in this draft class that I'd for sure put above him in terms of ball placement is Mayfield.
