Available players released from other teams

My thought is Van Noy comes in and is Lorax 2.0 . Dont see him replacing Milano. Id love him in the zo role. -
Kyle Van Noy cut by MIA, should Bills target him?
RichRiderBills replied to nato7412's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Intriguing. I think highly of this player and wonder if he could fit a Lorax type role. He's not a great fit to replace Milano. If coaches think he could be this SSLB role absolutely... -

MacGahee time....get r done beane. -
I'd probably take a pass now...thought the price was going to be around 12-13....i will say if i knew he would be healthy i may consider overpaying, provided its a deal i could get out of.

Bills suggested as trade spot for RB Christian McCaffrey?
RichRiderBills replied to WNY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills would be fine on cap...very workable. Minus the dead money which Panthers would absorb, its only two 8 million years ahead, then escalates somewhat. Could easily work that. As for pick 30, exact same situation as w Diggs. They've shown to be a team on cusp even more. Beane has proven to pull this trigger...yes they would do it. The holdup here is Carolina. They wont take a 24 million dead cap hit. ( per spotrac) . That would be foolish. -

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/carolina-panthers/christian-mccaffrey-21749/ Huge dead cap hit for Carolina if he's dealt. I dont see the value for Carolina to trade him. Not seeing a viable way to get er done. I think folks just went a bit wild w speculation. Yes, if a trade did happen....8 million per year for next 2 seasons then jumps up. I'd do the deal for 30 overrall in a heartbeat, but with that dead cap figure it would take more. -

1 year deals are harder on the cap. A certain bracket may get them, but not going to be a ton. -

No...in fact the guys cut by other teams being able to sign is a newer thing. The trade announcements were not allowed till the new league year and tampering was a bigger deal. This time of year was usually zero transactions and crickets, outside of cuts, retirements and the eventual tags. There will be fewer prove it 1 year deals this year. Fewer tags. -
I think you will see fewer 1 year deals and very few tags used. Puts too much strain on cap.

They dont have to use the same model as the sunday ticket. Your not wrong, but the all or nothing package model does not need to be invoked. In fact, that model is already problematic. To make big money, Amazon could adopt the a la carte pay per view model more typical of major sports features. They have 112 million subscribers and would likely get a boost. I also think the red zone channel, and more prime time games has reduced the marketability of a high cost "package" type bundle . The NFL also "discovered long ago" how to be stubborn. The profitability / business model for streaming is unfolding in a rapidly changing realm . If there were lessons learned 15 years ago about cable, they are obsolete. Again, I believe the NFL is not as smart as they let on, and the more forward thinking ideas would have been streaming and setting up thier own streaming service. In fact, they have much of this infrastructure already in place.

Yes, I agree. Bad Model. That huge cost buy in model was DTVs deal. I just cannot stand the company and relish in their demise. I hope the better method is to sell a la cart, like most other sport sites. 30 bucks a game..etc...DTV eventually did this at 50 bucks per game. Too much too late. I hate the notion of exclusive rights. I get it is a big lump sum pay check, but id rather just bid out the ability to stream at a set cost or profit share. Its also the lazy way. That way they could sell the pay per view rights to multiple networks or services at a set fee. That or the NFL develops its own network ( hey they have that) and own streaming service. Partnering with Amazon makes sense. Amazon has a good model, accesible, and could charge a la cart for choice content. They already do this, so its no real stretch. You dont need to charge 400 bucks for a package if the outreach is 10x what DTV gets. The a la carte model makes more sense. DTV only has 14 million Subscribers...Amazon 112 million! Could watch anywhere that fire stick gets a signal, much better.

The NFL is not as well run and forward thinking as they think. I could go on with the above, but Goodell has IMO done a very sloppy job under his tenure with uneven, chaotic, and sometimes lazy strategy. I dont think they are that well oiled. Ratings were down before Covid an DTV had issues selling the ticket. There is still big money, but its not being maximized.

Trade for Mack? Why no Judon or Shaq Barrett? Retool cap #s dont give up another 1st rounder.

Dead cap is a hit to the cap we cannot mitigate, even by trading the player. It occurs for a few reasons, but yes, mostly signing bonuses that were frontloaded. Example: John Brown's salary is somewhere around 8 million but he has a cap hit of 10 million, (this is a "dead" cap hot of 2 million from bonuses, then the cap hit from the 8 million salary) Cutting or trading John saves the 8 million salary, but not the dead cap hit. Dead hits can still hit a few years after a player leaves, as signing bonuses are factored over the life of the deal, averaged per year of the contract. Retired players can have dead cap hits too for signing bonus money. For example, if Star retires....he'll hit us nearly 10 million in dead cap I believe.

I mean that in the broader sense...frankly the whole video about asking for his release was a bit over dramatic to me. The browns stuff...etc...

I don't think Milano is a big loss. He's a solid playmaking coverage LB, undersized. He's a good player, but guys like him are not who you break the bank for. Teams that have broken the bank for his type of player/position almost have always regretted it. I would not bet my life on him getting the giant contract he hopes. A 6'0 225 pound OLB does not fit into most defenses in the NFL...maybe more than past years, but still not many. The proof is in the season; we looked ok without him when they settled in, especially when Klein had a few games under his belt to get acclimated. Our woes when Milano was gone early had just as much to do with the lack of stout guys in the front. We fill more depth there w/ scheme fit guys and we will be ok. I'm more worried about who is playing in front, and who we get in the LORAX role.
-
Hey, I really agree with this...and when you look at the FA defensive players available, there are a lot that are impressive. I start by getting back to finding that LORAX figure in this defense. We need guys who fit, not gimmicks. If you think about it, Rex Ryan was this gimmick too...was not a fit with all our 4-3 Players. I really like both Judon and Barrett....a few others. Even a dude like Kerrigan intrigues me. I hope Beane trusts his evaluations. If they deem Watt a great fit or a guy they see a role for, then so be it...but only if he is....don't try to sell tix by getting a guy we've heard of. I like Watt as a player, and like his energy, but I do roll my eyes sometimes at the theatrics. I'm rolling my eyes a bit at his twitter right now.
