Available players released from other teams
RichRiderBills replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would almost guarantee James will be looked at by Buffalo again. Not sure how Detroit used him, but production and targets were way down. Might be a low cost replacement for Kroft. He was known as a pretty good/tough dude in Pitt, maybe DET was just not a fit. -
Thoughts on a Marquise Goodwin reunion?

Looks like John Brown was released

I'm not sure he was ever " completely" healty...but dont have a real problem with what you say. Your right, his lack of physicality is another issue. -
Heres how I see it; Cutting Star screws us. If Star retires he screws us. Star could out out again, which postpones screwing us, but postponing this year could be a good thing. Then there is the only wildcard option, that requires Star to play ball; show up to camp, get injured and put on IR, and reach injury settlement. I dont know all the details of that scenario, but i heard it was the cleanest route. Then there is the notion Star shows up in great shape, fired up, and ready to play. Doubt it, but given the above, maybe the most desirable.

Looks like John Brown was released

Smoke was a good player and a good Bill. 2019 was a solid year for him, and in the last 30 years the Bills WR who've got 70 plus grabs can be counted on one hand (or so). He was a little overpriced at 10 million per year for us, but I'm surprised he didn't have trade value as an 8 million per year guy to someone else. The Bills can't be paying 10 million per year to a # 4 WR, the need to replace McKenzie and Roberts also likely played a role. Why not find a guy who can do all three roles? The answer probably lies in the draft, but I'd be surprised if the Bills didn't make some moves here in FA as insurance. I'd be very interested in the details of this release; was a restructure attempted? Was he shopped in trade? When on his game, John Brown is a 70 plus catch 7-10 TD guy, with a few more nuances to his game than just a true burner. He can do some aspects of a possession guy, is good in the locker room (rare for a WR), and runs solid routes. Those guys don't grow on trees. However, he can't stay healthy. This is been his big problem year after year...and this is why he's not worth a multi-year deal or the kind of money he's looking for. Best of luck to John, unless he goes to the Pats or Phish or something... I have high hopes for Gabe Davis, and think we'll be fine at WR. Let's not forget Isaiah Hodges as well. -

I think the Bucs Franchising Godwin is about the silliest move I've ever heard...especially this season. Not a top 5 guy...these are the things that blow up salaries across the league. -
Zach Ertz about to be traded? [Edit: or Not]
RichRiderBills replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/positional/tight-end/ Even though im for it...to support the notion Ertz should not be traded for...check this list out. Most of the top paid TEs in the league will be available. Either way Ertz should be restructured. When looked at, Ertz is overpriced...i think letting him restructure to 3 years 18 million with some cash up front is more in line. -

You have to keep an eye on this for sure, but the Bills play their cards right they can be there. We're not talking Herchescel Walker deals here. -

I'd make the move for a later round pick, yes. Competion may push the price up to a 3rd or 4th, id still likely do it. Not sure who folks think is going to be an answer at TE for the Bills but Ertz really could help be a piece. Buff is a team ready to make the move to the SB. Guys need to stop revisiting our rebuild mindset. Our window is open....I like less bringing in some kid in the draft, that may not ripen for 2-3 years, when a guy like Ertz could be have at that 8.2 million figure, which is a no brainer Ertz is still a good/elite player in a mess in Philly. The OL was in shambles, QB situation crazy, an this was not Ertzs fault. BTW still have high hopes for Knox. Think he'll take a step this year. -
Micah Hyde signed to 2 yr extension - Schefter
RichRiderBills replied to Tortured Soul's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The devil will be in the details of this one. Im not seeing any new guarenteed money, so less dead money. If so, not bad, and i can live with it, especially if he gets back his form in 21. -

Strange call. Not a fan of this move. Player looked like he had lost a step in 2020. $ number of contract will put him at or near franchise tag number for a safety in range of top 5. He's still solid, but not at that level. Some folks were saying he could be cut. I thought that was overboard. BUT I would have looked to put him in a contract year and tagged him if needed. -
Ben takes pay cut in new deal with Steelers

I'm not even kidding when I say I do think Mason Rudolph has potential. -
Everyone raves about the Cowboys talent ALWAYS...until the narrative does not fit. The Cowboys had a great running game, good pass rushers, and a scrappy defense they spent decent cash on. Now suddenly they don't have talent. Hmmm.... The Bills game was a microcosm of Dak's skill set. That year he could not get them in and choked. They blew easy games against bad teams down the stretch.

But the reality is the oline is in shambles and is a muliti year rebuild. The RBs are lousy and they are potentially losing Dupree. -

What About Watson for Jag's No. 1 Pick?

This is the correct answer ...young proven commodity franchise QB better than rookie. It will take multiple #1 draft picks to get him. -

Would not have gone in this direction myself. Steelers are super loyal to QBs , great....enjoy the celler . -
The answer to your question is yes. Then again Blake Bortles won 2 playoff games and got his team within 4 points of the SB with a good Defense. Any team with that good of a defense can be a contender. To be clear, Dak was offered a top 10 QB number...he's also made a top 5 # over the last 2 years. Dak has been given tools to win. Oline draft picks , paid RB and kept him. Proactive to get WRs and pay them. Not like they've let him flap. They routinely bring in top coaches to the D and try supply talent there as well. Lets also not forget Texas is income tax free, has low property taxes, and the Dallas QB gets tons of endorsement deals.

Well, there are holes here. First, it does have some elements of profit sharing. The cap floor is a product of this, as well as the cap in general. Thus passing on profits of the league to players as a result of the CBA. Then of course, NFL does share profits amoung owners, so its not the total truth. The crisis is not a reduced cap, the reduced cap is a by product of the crisis. Owners own finances/ assets/ empires may have been hit, and they may have less liquid cash on hand to even pay players. A lot of people were affected by huge losses in 2020. Ratings were down, bars closed, ticket sales got hit, along with all the economy of game day that boils down to hot dog sellers, security, to hotels and a hundred other aspects. Lastly, the budget crunch / low cap will likely reduce the amount of 1 year deals, which are harder on the cap. I think most 1 year deals become 2-3 year deals with easy out clauses and little guaranteed money. 3 year deals that are funtionally 1 year deals, the likes of which we've seen before. -

This stuff is just annoying after awhile. Why are the Pats in some people's heads?
