  1. "Twerp" is being nice. Snyder and Wilson both want to win, but Snyder's approach is "All I have to do is throw the money at glitz and it's a done deal." So he buys the team and immediately alienates some of his best players. He goes for Deion and puts his all-pro, future Hall of Famer, Daryl Green, on the bench (when the guy can still play a ton). Deion doesn't have much left in the tank and is constantly injured. He brings in Jeff George to replace Brad Johnson, who has just made the pro bowl. George has nothing left either (that's assuming he ever had anything) and loses Johnson to free agency (why stick around here?). He terrorizes his first coach, Norv Turner from day one. I attended the Skins first pre-season scrimmage against the Steelers and as soon as the game ended Snyder comes onto the field (right near me) and starts berating Turner, and drags him into a nearby building and slams the door. Then there was the Steve Spurrier saga, more glitz, no gain. He charges fans to attend and park at pre-season workouts, until the fans rebelled and the press continually trashed him. He attempted this season to force season ticket holders to pay only with a Redskins credit card, which he would collect the interest on. Again, another rebellion. Etc. Etc. I'll take Ralph anytime.
  2. I think Sherman would be the best pick. However, I can see him butting heads with Marv over time, especially since Sherman has been a GM and probably maintains a mindset of wanting to be in control and call alot of the shots. I don't know that Marv would feel threatened, but he, all things considered, probably would be more comfortable with Jauron, who he knows and apparently likes. So it's up to you Ralph. You either wind up with a, perhaps, uncomfortable and threatened GM, or with a coach that may well not be your first choice, but may be a wise selection because you feel you have to appease your hand-picked GM, who is a legend in the city and whose opinions you do respect. A coin flip may be in order.
  3. This is about you? Neither of these guys is going anywhere. It's important to get it right this time.
  4. Catching these Sabres games is great fun. It's just too bad they are getting very little publicity, even in the Hockey News. But if they keep this up, everyone will have to pay attention; they won't, hopefully, have a choice.
  5. Sometimes money talks, even for coaches in the position you allude to. Exhibit A is Steve Spurrier; B is Nick Saban. Spurrier's job was about the ultimate "dream job."
  6. I think too many are downplaying the Marv part of the equation. A lot of coaches might give Buffalo a second thought because of the prospect of working with Marv. That said, the right person is going to cost Ralph big bucks. But at this point in time, Wilson may not care how much it costs to get the right man.
  7. Does Tressel have any NFL (assistant) coaching experience?
  8. Mularkey was taking tremendous heat about the play calling. So he made the move. However, he expressed deep regret when Clements got canned, mentioning their close association over the years. You really think MM had much choice or say about what happened to Clements, under the circumstances?
  9. I forgot to mention that Gray is pretty clearly a goner as well.
  10. How can anyone be surprised that Mularkey is gone? He was stripped of his mentor, Donohoe, and most of his assistants. He obviously was no longer going to be calling the shots as he couldn't even retain his buddy Clements. Mularkey was basically as lame a duck as he could be. The whole expectation that he would stick around under the circumstances was a rather bizarre concept. I believe Levy will make a smart, calculated decision on who to bring in, with, of course, Ralph's backing.
  11. Anyone know what the problem is with the Sabres board? For some time now, every time I attempt to access it, it says "test." It's the same even when you hit the link to it from TBD.
  12. I hope you are not one of the guys who came down on me right before the Jets game for suggesting that it was treasonous to say it would be a good idea for the Jets to win, since we could accomplish nothing other than, perhaps, make Mularkey look better and hurt our draft position by winning. It is unfortunate that we won, as you suggest.
  13. It has to be a concern as people that age can suddenly start losing it. It's just a fact. Agreed, many don't. On the surface, getting Marv back on board should be a major plus to this team, for the reasons I mentioned earlier.
  14. Marv will be the wild card if he comes on board. Don't assume anything about who the GM will be or what he will do, and who the head coach will be if Marv becomes team president, which I feel will occur. Marv, in that capacity, will have a say in much of what goes on, and will have Ralph's ear full time. This may be good, or it may be bad, depending on how Marv is functioning at his rather advanced age.
  15. Number two doesn't call the shots. It's presumtuous to assume that Donohoe was nothing more than a rubber stamp for Modrak. Give the guy a break!
  16. What makes most sense is Marv coming is as team president, which basically enables him to function as a senior advisor on any and all matters. I wouldn't be adverse to making Modrak GM, but, by all means, get rid of Mularkey.
  17. He totally outcoached Weis, making critical adjustments after the first quarter. Tressel really did his homework.
  18. Tim McCarver or Brent (I am smooth so you should enjoy listening to me, no matter what I say) Musburger? Both of them what to make me vomit. But at least McCarver knows baseball. Musburger, on the other hand, is not only a windbag, but knows absolutely nothing about what he is talking about. "The Ohio State linemen are like gods. Look at whatshisname, he's going into his squat." Oh for a voice and a good agent.
  19. It would be very surprising if the new GM was told he could not hire his own coach. What has Mularkey done to become untouchable?
  20. What about cornerback if/when Clements leaves (even if he stays he's not shut-down)? Milloy gets beat easily these days; next year will likely be worse. Who is your quarterback? Tight en? Also, do Donohoe and Mularkey suddenly become geniuses? I'm not so sure. Your points are well taken, and the Bills might possibly make the playoffs with your fixes, but how far are they realistically going to go without addressing these and possibly other needs?
