  1. And, as I'm suggesting, probably the GM as well. Donahoe probably came cheap, as he had been fired and was out of work for a while. And, of course, a successful coaching staff may not necessarily be expensive. You just have to make the right decisions. Alternatives to Greg Williams, for instance, such as Weiss, Fox, or even Lewis, may not have cost you much more, if that, than Williams did.
  2. Yesterday was just a bad day all around. As a lifelong Indians fan, who has always hated the Yankees, I said to my wife last night that it probably would be simpler if I just started rooting for the Yankees.
  3. It's not meant to mean anything other than we can't catch a break, whether it's "The Miracle" lateral, the penalty on the hail mary, Thurman's helmet, the last play of last years opener, or "no goal." We seem to be perpetually jinxed. Perhaps TD's prior history of success ends when he moves to Buffalo. I would hope, realistically, that Buffalo's house is not really haunted. But it certainly appears to be at times. I am not sure that Donahoe is the answer, for the reasons cited in the post, is what I am really saying.
  4. When Bobby Beathard was GM of the Redskins, true, he had a hell of a coach in Joe Gibbs. But he also had a philosophy, which he stuck to, that the players he brings in have to have smarts and discipline. It helped get him three Super Bowl rings. Than there's the Bills. Year after year of one dumb penalty after another (Clements today, for instance. Momentum, or any semblence of it, continuallly lost, game after game. Of course, Beathard also was a great judge of talent, which I always thought Donahoe had when he was the Steelers GM. Remember, Pittsburgh, continually lost more quality free agents than other team, yet always managed to draft well as they continued to win. So was it magic or luck? I've totally turned on TD, for four primary reasons. Number one: Greg Williams. Number two: the starting quarterbacks he has brought in have, thus far, proven to be disasters, at significant cost. Number three: everyone knows that the OL needs major help; yet TD makes do with no more than one significant addition a year, while at the same time losing starters such as Rueben and Jennings; i.e. status quo. Number four: TD's drafts have often left a lot to be desired. Or perhaps it's just a Buffalo thing.
  5. His accuracy was way off early in the game, the bomb attempts notwithstanding.
  6. Some are suggesting Losman's lack of accuracy is a result of his being uncomfortable out there. That may be so, but even most of his short throws seem a little off. How comfortable and experienced do you have to be to throw your short drops where the receive does not have to stop or jump to catch it, or reach back and thus lose any momentum he may have. I hope it's just a matter of "comfort," but I'm beginning to wonder. Also, quarterbacks either can see the field or have a tendency to lock on a receiver for better or worse. Losman was unable to see, for instance, a wide open Moulds near the end zone (as was re-run on the network feed). And that was a play on which he had protection. The concerns grow. I believe you have to stick with JPL. Otherwise, you'll never know if he can become comfortable and effective out there or is nothing more than a Loss Man. If it's the latter, you obviously have to look real hard at the GM and coach. The concerns about both, especially, Donahoe grow as well. Finally, to the GM, where's the OL? Bringing in only one experienced body every year to replace a starter you've just cut, leads to status quo, as we've seen the last two years.
  7. Big deal - could mean anything. Could even be that Mr. Moore even has a Keyshaan Johnson thing going for him "Just Give Me The Damn Ball," and JP didn't at some particular time or other.
  8. Plus there were no short drops to Willis. If Willis is so determined to run outside, toss him the ball and make it happen. Also, is the pitchout a lost art?
  9. No legit touchdowns; only one to a tackle/cum tight end.
  10. Is Aiken supposed to be on the team because of his speed? He has to catch the ball when it hits him in the hands for his speed to be a factor. The Bills should bring back Haddad, who can also return punts, and get rid of "speedy."
  11. I know it's been said before, but it needs to be mentioned again. The Bills are making a big mistake using Clemenets to return punts. If he goes down, we are in big trouble, I think you'll all agree. A parallel situation here in DC a few years back was the incredibel urge the Redskins had to use Daryl Green to return punts. The few times he did it, everyone drooled and couldn't wait for the next time. But the Skins understood that it was too risky to give in to the temptation. Green basically stayed at corner and nowhere else. He remained generally healthy and clearly was a key cog on the Redskins Super Bowl teams. Should Nate ever get injured on a punt return (bite my tongue), I'm sure all you'll hear is "he won't be used in that capacity again." Fix it before it breaks, you guys. The cost, obviously, could be really considerable. So you do you use instead? Find someone.
  12. I think we should pack it in right now. Why even bother playing it out. Refund everyone's ticket money and spend the season watching positive things on the football field, like Terrell Owens. Perhaps Mr. Wilson can even get in a few more tennis matches. And by the way, Losman's name obviously is misspelled. It's really Loss man.
  13. The reports are that Herrion had significant heart problems, which obviously didn't appear overnight. He was apparently not on drugs or steroids. Hope the rest of the NFL has better screening/physical exams than the 49ers have.
  14. Undoubtedly will not be rebuilt unless it is clear the Saints are returning. There are too many other monetary requirements to commit funds to a stadium that may not have a pro team playing in it. And Tulane can move its games back to the campus stadium. Of course there may be a Catch -22 situation here. Benson may state that he will not move back to New Orleans unless he has a new stadium. What do you do in that case?
  15. Football or not, beats the times of the games when my son played and I was coaching (had to get there extra early). 7am on weekends.
  16. Speaking of the Hall, when is it going to "get real" and admit Art Monk?
  17. What about splitting games between Baton Rouge, San Antonio, and possibly other cities. No one city deserves getting this team, with the possible exception of Baton Rouge, which is close enough to New Orleans that loyal fans will still be able to see "their" team and retain something positive, win or lose, in their existance. Agreed that this is not the time to be discussing permanent moves.
  18. I don't believe anyone should expect miracles from JP and thus am willing to be patient, near term, with him. However, I find his post-game quote that "Things never go as planned" disturbing. Is JP's attitude that the whole game should be improvisational because the game plan will most likely not work? Is the game plan thus a secondary consideration? I hope that's not where he is coming from. That's more the way you play the game in high school or earlier. JP's mindset and commitment should clearly be to do everything possible to ensure that the game plan is carried out and works. When all else fails, improvise. Hopefully, the comment is grounded on JP's experiences at Tulane, where he had an awful OL and improvisation was therefore a must, and that the Bills OL will (pray) afford JP the opportunity to settle down and settle in That's not to say that improvising cannot be effective; watch your Steve Young or even Flutie videos. But it should obviously not be your first priority. If it is and remains to be for JP, we are, and JP is, in big trouble. Speaking of discipline, if the penalities don't decrease substantially, we're undoubtedly in big trouble, no matter what JP does.
  19. DeeRay, you shot your wad when you made it very clear that you hate New Orleans, to begin with. So much for objective commentary.
  20. When Bush was asked today about what he meant by his remarks, he said he meant the violance was not acceptable. He still has no clue. We can send the 82cd Airborne rapid response group anywhere in the world on a moments notice (I know it from personal experience), but the vacationer waited days to start acting like he was really concerned and on top of things. The 82cd, or some such Federal support, should have been sent in immediately, or by Tuesday. Expectations that the National Guard, decimated by the Iraq adventure, was capable of moving effectively and instantaneously should have been minimal. For years, and even very recently, everyone has been saying that New Orleans could not survive a Category 4 or 5 storm. So for Bush to say the reason for the problems is unforeseen levee breaches, is almost criminal. This is especially so since he cut funding that would have improved disaster measures and planning already in place, which obviously was of minimal value, as has been proven. One thing working to the president's benefit in all of this: he can be thankful that New Orleans helped enable him to turn the spotlight of off Cindy Sheehan, at least near term.
