Im convinced its coaching (Chiefs showing how to handle Bengals)

These things take time! Just trust the process and bear with us, we’re looking into implementing more man coverage by 2024! -

C’mon we have to play the law of averages: if we throw a couple more high draft picks at the def line we’re bound to hit on one eventually! -
Jim Johnson was McD’s mentor. Where’s his defense?
Yobogoya! replied to oldmanfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah I mean our base defense is fine and dandy, but like you say: the lack of well designed or creative pressure packages is a big issue. I suppose it doesn’t help that a primary candidate for a blitz, our middle linebacker Edmunds, is so brutally horrible at it. This is where a talented DC separates themselves from the pack. If you know your front four struggle to generate pressure and you can’t figure out a way to compensate for that, what are you even doing? Anyone can call base defense all drive while a talented QB is picking you apart. -
Why isn't Frazier interviewing for Head Coaching positions?
Yobogoya! replied to fasteddie's topic in The Stadium Wall
Look at the vacancies. Texans— even that org can’t be dumb enough to try and sell Frazier as the follow up to Lovie Smith. Cards/ Broncos— Frazier is not the guy who’s going to rehab Murray or Wilson’s career. No chance. That only leaves the Panthers and Colts, and who knows how those two nimrod owners think. But as has been pointed out in this thread and elsewhere multiple times, teams want to go young and offensive for HC these days. It’s sad to say but realistically he only gets a shot from an owner who wants a one year fall guy placeholder, like Lovie was for the Texans this past year. -
Time to go all in on the OL - The grades
Yobogoya! replied to ArdmoreRyno's topic in The Stadium Wall
Of note is that this regime has acquired only one lineman of any exceptional talent in five years… and summarily shipped him away to another team. Good grief, man… -
Whiffing on three pass rushers in a row is a huge red flag. Can we even identify this type of player? Groot is the only reliably decent rusher we’ve got but he hasn’t shone up as anything close to elite. How much more in draft picks or dollars can we even invest in this position? And can we even trust those judging the talent those resources are used on?

Joe B wrap-up of the Bills season (The Athletic - paywall)
Yobogoya! replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
Dorsey is a JAG, and it’s a tall compliment to Allen what he can do with just another guy as his play caller. Maybe I’m just too depressed, but I can’t think of an instance this year where a commentator called out something we did on offense as innovative or noteworthy. They would just gush about what Allen did, not about what the play was designed to do. That’s a big difference from Daboll, who typically had several innovative concepts and creatively designed plays seemingly on a weekly basis. You hate to dog a first year play caller who is still learning, but it’s hard to picture where this offense can grow to under Dorsey when the foundation of something unique was nowhere to be found all year. -
Honestly the whole second half of the season was just a struggle to watch. While other playoff teams were rounding into form and playing some of their best football, we were dealing repetitively with the same struggles, making crucial self-inflicted gaffes and trudging to the finish line — winning games through attrition and the strength of JA’s arm. I can’t remember a less enjoyable winning streak in my life. It was just bizarre how unfun it was to win most all of those games, lol

McBeane's constant use of premium draft picks on role players
Yobogoya! replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
Our first round pick couldn’t get stay on the field despite the crap we were rolling out at that position, our second round pick flashed some explosiveness but is still a less than part time player. Our third round pick… I had to look up, I completely forgot who that was. And that’s just this year’s draft. People used to give Beane a lot of credit for pulling in some late draft capital for bust players, completely ignoring that he was, you know, the guy who drafted those bust players. And our whole defensive rotation to keep the line fresh? Um… fresh for what? They don’t take down the quarterback when they’re fresh, winded, or anything in between. 🤷♂️ -
We talk about learning from our mistakes a lot for a team that doesn’t ever seem to change anything throughout the year.

Yeah Belichick is an extreme outlier in that he’s historically micro managed both sides of the ball. Plus sans Brady he’s hardly a coach you would point to as being extremely successful, eh? And I’m also not saying DC’s have never had success nor won Super Bowls. But this is an offense driven league and you have a decisive advantage if you’ve got a strong OC who can’t be poached because he’s the guy in charge.
-
Yeah I mean it ain’t like we ignore the trenches, we just can’t identify great players for either side of it.
-
This 9ers defense is so nasty.
-
Our first rounder this year couldn’t even get on the field. Not a lot of Super Bowls are won by teams who field just one super-generational talent. On this team we have Josh and….?

McBeane's investment in the D Line last five seasons
Yobogoya! replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
Ed Oliver has to be the closest to elite I’ve ever seen from a JAG. But he’s never taken over and dominated a game and it’s pretty obvious that he’s never going to. -
For me it definitely helps dull the pain. Well, partially the venting, partially all the pills and alcohol 😅

Yeah I said it in game thread but our ability to evaluate talent needs to be called into serious question. Beane bought a lot of goodwill by hitting on the Josh pick but his pro scouting and drafting have both been shaky at best all over the roster. For the number of high draft picks on defense to not turn up one single game changer is extremely concerning. Like, not every pick can be elite but that many swings to miss on every one?
