Emerging to me would indicate that he is already becoming prominent. That he has shown something. He is a rookie, so a complete unknown. It sounds like you like him a lot and are confident he will be good. We'll see.

Will anyone admit to becoming a Bills fan during the Josh Allen era?
MJS replied to Another Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
My Dad is from Buffalo so i inherited the Bills, even though I never lived in Buffalo myself. My vaguest and earliest Bills memories were seeing Jim Kelly in his later years. I remember seeing Bills QBs after him and noticing a huge difference in how they threw the ball. His throws were so much prettier. But I really didn't become a fan until I was a little older in the Doug Flutie / Rob Johnson era. And then we entered the drought, so that was the bulk of my fandom until the McDermott era. I think I've earned my stripes. There are a lot of young fans coming up and it isn't their fault that they are growing up in a great era to be Bills fans. I'm sure they will stick with the team just like most did who were coming up in the 90s superbowl years. -
Yes, but we are talking about only a handful of plays in the entire history of the game. It didn't happen often. I'd rather just go back to the old kickoff rules and move the kicker back 10 yards so it is not as likely to kick it out of the end zone. But the player safety thing is always talked about these days. I just think that football is a dangerous sport and you sign up for that when you play. The new kickoff is just kind of dumb.

I'd rather face Cincy week 1.

Surprise onside kicks were extremely rare anyway, though. They aren't allowed a running start anymore and can't overload one side, so that is why onside kicks don't work as well anymore. The surprise factor has less to do with it. The vast majority of onside attempts were not a surprise.

I'm having trouble making conclusions from that huge cluster. Maybe they could average it out per team or something.

He is already a great emerging head coach, huh?

He was here for three years. Four if you consider is first stint.

NFL players to the Olympics in Flag Football?
MJS replied to GASabresIUFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Part of it was providing cap relief to the teams if their player is injured. And I'm sure they'll change the non football injury rules so the players still get paid if they are injured. Was that seriously in the Olympics? What a joke. -
Yeah, with hindsight you look back and say the busted players were overhyped and overrated. But I do see what you are saying.
-
All of that is supposed to be a part of the evaluation, though. What will they be like as a pro? Are there chatacter concerns? Does his game translate to the next level? Is he mentally prepared and ready? Is he resilient? Getting drafted that high means the answer to all those questions was positive, and so the player generates a lot of hype. I would argue that Sammy Watkins was for sure overhyped. He did not turn out to be what people were convinced he would be, mostly because he is a head case. Yeah, injuries can throw a big wrench into everything. That is true.
-
If he busts that doesn't change that? Sure it does. That means everyone was wrong about him. I would say jn that scenario he would be "overhyped" for sure.

There are a lot of QBs who never won the Superbowl until their 30s.

New NFL Award, Thanks to Dion Dawkins. Protector of the Year.
MJS replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
Cool and long overdo. Dion will want to be the first one to win it, so he is going to be playing with his hair on fire this year. -
I'll be watching it for the first time, then.

I'm glad. We don't need more officiating, we need less.

Davis, to me, says really obvious things as if it is deep insight. And sometimes, I just think he says things that are wrong. He just annoys me, but it isn't a big deal. Everyone complains about Aikman and Buck, but I find them to be perfectly adequate. They are average or mediocre at everything, which is perfectly fine for a football game. I don't think they distract from the game too much. They don't say stupid things all that often, or provide great insight. They are just kind of there, and I am fine with that since there are so many who distract in a negative way. One guy who I thing is really underrated is Spero Dedes. I think he is excellent, but he has had some rough partners. Mike Terico is just a yes man for Collinsworth, and pompous at the same time. Not a fan at all. And ironically, I think Collinsworth has gotten less insufferable the past couple of years, but he is still pretty bad. But he does provide some good insight at times.

Lions withdraw proposal to alter playoff seeding
MJS replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
Many are complaining about below .500 playoff teams, but that has so rarely happened that it should not be seriously considered as something that needs to be addressed. -
Charles Davis is one of my least favorite. I get other people like him, but I really don't see what others see in him.

Josh Allen gets record contract extension $330 million
MJS replied to The 9 Isles's topic in The Stadium Wall
I guess they are doing it right. Looks like he doesn't need more help. Best to spend money to strengthen the team elsewhere. Also, what the heck is "Help Score"? -
AJ Tarpley. Not only played for only one year with the Bills, but only one year for his entire NFL career. He played 15 games for the Bills in 2015 and had 2 INT's, 2 pass breakups, 1 forced fumble, 1 sack, and 9 tackles! And then he disappeared from off the face of the Earth. But honestly I'd go with Zach Brown. 149 tackles and a pro bowl. Good stuff.

Not Hyde, but Poyer for sure.

Does anyone really have anything against Nantz? He is great. I can see complaining about Romo, but not Nantz. Not when there are so many that are so much worse than him. He has an iconic voice. Plus, he has great respect for Josh Allen as a person and a player. I'd take Nantz over almost anyone. But yes, Romo has gone sour. I liked him the first couple of years, but he has really gotten bad.

He'll turn into a preseason favorite and everyone will be clamoring for him to make the 53, only to be disappointed when he is cut and is never heard from again.
