The final play to Shakir. Samuel was wide open for easy TD
MJS replied to MikePJ76's topic in The Stadium Wall
In the first half the defense was great. But in the 2nd half they missed a million tackles and made Diggs look like a top 3 receiver in the NFL. The offense sucked in the 1st half and the defense sucked in the 2nd. And then tried to pull it back out. -

Because he tried to pull back the handoff and fumbled it. The QB has to pull it back quicker and do it with TWO hands to protect the ball. -
Basically all dump offs. Only a couple of nice throws. The Bills just missed a million tackles.

No. He was not that good. He was OK.

He turned the ball over twice. Both were his fault completely. He was bailing from clean pockets. He was missing open receivers. He decides to scramble too much and was tackled after a short gain or sacked because of it. This was a bad game by Allen. -
Maye didn't do anything amazing in that game. If anything, I thought he was rattled for most of it. But Vrabel is a good coach. That's exactly the kind of game you get from him.

Because he played like crap for at least two thirds of the game. -

Allen had a bunch of options on that play and missed them all, instead deciding to run around for no reason and then throwing it to a fairly well covered Shakir. Yeah, it was probably a PI, but not super egregious. He got there a half tick early. You'd expect the officials to call it, though, because they were calling everything. -
For all you McDermott haters, who would you want? (Now a poll)

Come on. Josh Allen was just as much a part of the problem as anyone else in that game. -

Johnson was way worse than White. He wasn't nearly as good as those stats suggest. Most of his throws were checkdowns that the Bills missed a bunch of tackles on. He made only a couple of nice throws all night. The rest were checkdowns or great plays by receivers. -

Penalties and bad offense were a huge factor for the loss, especially in the first half. And missed tackles by the defense. They must have had 20 missed tackles. Taron Johnson was TERRIBLE. So many times he took a bad angle and then just watched as Diggs ran around him. Terrible effort and tackling by him. I think he has reached his shelf life. -

Bad offense in the 1st half. Bad defense in the 2nd. That's what I call complimentary football. -
Diggs plays mainly in the slot now, right?

They said the plan was for Strong to get a couple of series to play before the game even started. White wasn't pulled because of poor play. It was just to get Strong some playing time. But I agree with the point about his health. Obviously, something isn't right with him and they decided to shut him down for four weeks to get himself fully healthy. The Bills are one of the more cautious teams with injuries. Right. I completely forgot about him.

We have a guy on the team named Franklin?

Well, there were games for the Vikings where he was really good and made really impressive throws, so I don't think it is accurate to say that he didn't have any high level plays. The way he is playing now was always in him. Even going back to his first couple of years with the Jets, he had impressive plays and even full games. His problem was always consistency and making bone headed decisions in stressful situations. He has always had all the tools, though.

That gets too close to questioning their fandom, in my opinion. There's no reason to believe that they aren't die hard fans just like you and me just because they are from Canada. Heck, I've only been to Buffalo once in my life. I'm from the West. But I'm still a loyal fan regardless of whatever teams are in the areas I live. I now live in Louisiana, but I don't cheer for the Saints or LSU just because I live here.

For the Toronto Bills fans, which there are a lot of, that's not the case. They like their Canadian teams and also the Bills. I think it's fine for the Bills to acknowledge that.

He has been awesome. It is so nice to have a good pass rusher versus just a good defensive end. He actually finishes and makes splash plays.

Last night’s game was the quintessential example of how close NFL teams are…

Sean McDermott has a very good record against the Shanahan tree of coaches as well. Other teams must be really frustrated with the Bills because they pick up 3rd and longs all the time as well. -
True, but he brings in QBs who have the traits he wants. All those guys are accurate, timing based QBs who just run the plays and stay within the scheme and system. They succeed because they are who the system was designed to use. Tua would be good there, for instance. The problem is when things break down, those guys can't do much. But he has shown you can get pretty far with QBs like that.

James Cook AFC Offensive Player of the Month (September 2025)!
MJS replied to bills742's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, I still think he can't block very well 😉 Allen got his MVP. It doesn't matter. Aldo, I'm not sure MVP voters considered Henry when evaluating Lamar Jackson's MVP case. Fans sure talked about it, but that doesn't mean much. Plus, Cook had his breakout year last year as well. That could have similarly been used against Allen.
