  1. Link Why isn't this the standard everywhere?
  2. No sh--. Me, Connecticut U. Still, I have a hard time believing that this is the norm. And Boondock, I weep for the future that no one stood up to refute that.
  3. Will she finally realize that she may have crossed the line? (No, probably not). That whole deal with Jenny Jones several years ago put her show off the air in short order. One can only hope for a repeat here....
  4. I can attest to this, living w/in the Providence viewing area. If you listen to Laffey's propaganda, he's lockstep w/ the administration --- except on oil, which he (rightly, I think) calls them out for allowing the energy companies to write the laws. He says he's an outsider and that Rove et al. hates him. Not a bad strategy for a state that has shown in the past 10 years that they will always elect a Dem statehouse, yet choose more conservative statewide and national reps. Everything else he says, tho, should make him a dream buddy for the WH. Control of the Senate appears more important to the RNC than having people who represent their agenda. Sheldon Whitehouse has been running ads for the past several months detailing specific issues, gaining ground while whichever is getting beat up and spending mad money. He is coming off as the more polished candidate and he is a known figure in RI, not a nobody. Laffey has been running specific ads, tho very muddled (in one 30-second spot, he sits on his parents' couch and goes from saying he'll fight(!) the 'special interests', then says that his brother died of AIDS and his father has Alzeimers (which has me going, "Won't that make you susceptible to those special interests?), and then goes into his oil schpiel) even if what he says does ring hollow when compared to his record and he does come off as an a--hole, berating firefighters, the elderly, people who complained about his tax hikes in Cranston (admittedly, he came into a bad situation).... Chaffee has been running VERY nonspecific ads, you know the sort --- integrity, honor, "bring people together" blah blah blah, but then again he's the incumbent and is pitching from the mound as such.
  5. If you asked for a show of hands for who thinks MM is an impartial documentarist, George W Bush could count that high with his shoes on and zipper up. This is like accusing BlueFire of misrepresenting that he's a UTexas fan.
  6. I don't see how such "fiscal restrictions" sh/w/could be implemented, for the same reason that you can't stop the NRA from telling people to support gun rights and vote for pro-gun candidates (essentially, 'Vote Republican!'). Note: not bashing the NRA. I'm a Life Member. At such a macro level and w/o direct financial support under the election donation laws, how does that not infringe on the 1st? Call him a shill, fine. But what he does is no different than any other political commentator (only he does it 2 hours at a time) --- trying to sway the public to see things from his viewpoint. Should there be financial restrictions on George Will?
  7. No sh--. The more PK goes on, the more I think it's a personal thing.
  8. Anyone notice that "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" is played around Christmas time? And it happens every year!?!? Uhm, when your work is sending an inherently political message, it only makes sense. You're blaming a guy for wanting his work to have the most impact?
  9. The endless ways of squeezing people for that last marginal dollar will be the thing that eventually kills the NFL. Who in their right mind would pay for a radio broadcast? Why should people have to pay for something as crappy as a voice describing what is happening on a field, when we already support them through tax giveaways and public-financed stadiums? Too many pols who say, "Who cares, it's not my money! Here you go!" Neil Young sang, "You pay for this / But they give you that." The NFL doesn't even do the second part anymore, but they're just a culmination of the ethos of our society (which, when you read the studies you find out the consumerism/materialism is what makes us so depressed!) And it happens all around in this country to the point where you just want to grow a beard, wear flannel and move to Wisconsin.
  10. How is Saban going to chew his own ass out for this mistake? 1) Privately watch the gamefilm and think to himself, "You've got to throw it harder next time!" 2) During the team's Monday locker room meeting, Saban acts out both parts of a yelling routine. 3) Smoke a bone with Wicky and say, ".... Chill..... man. It's all good!"
  11. Remember how Herm Edwards hired a special 'game clock management coach'? Looks like Saban is going to have to hire out for the throwing of the red flag. Seriously. Underhand?!?! What is this, softball? Saban throws like a little girl.
  12. All I can think of when seeing the previews is, "NBC dropped 'The West Wing' for this crap!!?" WW could have turned into a continuing series ala "Law and Order" surviving multiple ins and outs of characters over the past 15 years.... And with Alan Alda (as was originally planned) as the next pres, some new good writers and the exit of John Wells, could have been something. If network television is any indicator of what our culture is becoming, I weep for the future.
  13. That amount had better buy every advertisement in every print, radio and television medium. The whole of Iraqi media operations is not worth $20M. This is basically a gift to bolster the warm and fuzzy idea of 'freedom of speech in a democratic society' (such as it is in Iraq). It'll do as much good as flushing it down a toilet. Easy to spend money when it's not coming out of your own wallet.
  14. Someone please send PK a memo that EM was traded to the Texans.
  15. Any odd smells coming from his apartment? Maybe this thread should be unpinned, yeah? It has been five months....
  16. Heaven forbid the child rapists actually have to stay in jail. We have to clear them out to make room for Dumpster divers.
  17. And before that was Oliver Stone's "JFK." Preach it, Nanker!
  18. WV's gonna get lost in the mountains! UConn, baby!
  19. His 'Live at Chicago' DVD is a great timecapsule for fans who didn't discover him until after he died.
  20. They can probably glean a little from him with tendancies of the WR corps, basic offense but how is this anything BB can't see for himself? You don't honestly think coaches show players all 52 cards in their hand --- especially when they know ~30 of these guys will be cut or on other teams!? There's a reason why they run vanilla schemes in the preseason. As an analogy, Shakespeare, etc. would give each actor only his own lines and the lines buttressing his lines for cues. That way, any one actor could not go elsewhere and get paid to replicate the Bard's play. I imagine it's the same concept here.
  21. I was a little miffed too. But it wouldn't be the first time that a genuinely nice guy, a funny guy, a guy you like and who has developed great QBs before just didn't get the job done. Maybe SW was out of coaching for too long. Maybe it wasn't a good fit. Sometimes it goes like that.
  22. I would actually like to keep the tip on my boner.
  23. The $110B I'm guessing is just for getting the basics back up and running. Not computed is the loss of property value, vehicles, people's material things, works of art, etc. for which that figure is chump change. And then most important and incalculable thing, people's lives. If they'd only put as much time and money in maintaining as they currently are in the Blame Game....
  24. Yep. For the most part, this place runs as my father said of our local association meetings back in the '60s --- "I would disagree with the president tooth and nail at the meetings... and then go to his house for beer and spaghetti dinner." It is exceedingly rare and precious for something like that to happen today. This is one of those places. I hope to make it for a home opener someday.
