Hope it's just Nature calling.

It's not so much an issue of whether the neighbor is doing the work for you --- it verges on squatter's rights. If you allow that, there's many people who won't hestiate to plant things there, or park their car there, or.... The issue is that it's your property, not theirs. My uncle had a similar problem w/ neighbors mowing into his yard. One day while he was mowing and the neighbors were out in their yard, he veered off into their perfectly-cut, straight-line lawn, did a squiggly line across, did a loop and steered back and finished his own yard. What was so funny is he did it very nonchalantly. 'Course, he's a Vietnam vet on full mental disability, so not caring and being a little lot crazy helps insofar as potential repercutions. You should've seen the look on the neighbors' faces. My neighbor is a lipstick-and-makeup state trooper with a great posterior. She can do whatever she wants.

I don't think Butkus bears much, if any, responsibility even if he felt he does. Every player takes those risks when they go on the field, then and now. If Hughes felt something was wrong, he sh/wouldn't have stayed in. Kotite was one link in a long string of disasters by the Jests. Mistakes of which they're repeating today. I don't mind that, tho. NY Times abstract....

A Wiki search on Chuck Hughes.... Perhaps the mere presence of Butkus in his vicinity caused the heart attack? I remember Bruce's hit on Boomer. He was lying on the turf like a sack of potatoes. Didn't even want to move and probably didn't know who he was, nevermind where. IIRC the Jets coach was Rich Kotite.

The Patriettes have equipment managers, but they just let Randy Cross and Phil Simms prepare Tom Brady's balls. P.S. Why is this 'Off the Wall'?

Then again, we couldn't either.

He shares notes with Pat Kirwan. If JP plays horribly this season, they can say they told us so. If JP plays excellently, they'll say they liked this kid all along and knew he'd be an NFL talent from the start. It's the same BS. What I don't get is why so many people bother to spend their precious breath reading that crap.

Puhonix, Too bad those pics are for their Match.com profiles!

Richard Armitage's bad month
UConn James replied to X. Benedict's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Agreed, with the correction that the coup happened in '99. He didn't announce himself as President until '01, but for all intents and purposes he was in charge of Pakistan and the military. Pardoning Khan in exchange for cooperation was a political move Musharraf probably had to make. Another note on the topic, I would add that I'd like to see Armitage face some kind of penalty for divulging the information he did, even if it was inadvertant. Things like that can't go unpunished. Scooter Libby will be on trial for perjury and Armitage gets nothing? Not right. -
Richard Armitage's bad month
UConn James replied to X. Benedict's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Toilet paper stuck to your shoe at a job interview is embarrassing. Two women wearing the same dress is embarrassing. Your dog crapping in your neighbor's lawn while he's having a family cookout is embarrassing. Having your nuclear program sold to one of the world's biggest bullies on your watch is at least an 'Oh sh--!' moment... and to most people would be a big wake-up call that you'd better get control over it right quick. Musharraff seems to be a friend in an unfriendly world. He faces internal pressures that boggle the mind as to how he stays in power.... Three assassination attempts by extremeists. It's in his interest to cooperate. Whether it was Armitage's threat that lit a fire under his butt to cooperate all the more, whatever. That's called the Stick. Other times we use the carrot. What can you say? -
Congratulations Western New York!

Just barely. -
Premiere is 4 October. There'll be 6 eps in a row, then a hiatus for 13(?) weeks, then they're running all new eps 'til the end. None of last season's on-again-off-again show-the-first-five-eps-ten-times skips. Which I think is a very good decision. Anyone seen the recent ads for the new season, ie Jack facing a wall of water? Looks like the pace picks up.

Doesn't surprise me. Volek knew he wasn't good enough to be a starter here either, which is why he didn't come to Buffalo. He lacks that necessary ambition, and he knows he lacks the skills. It's like the kid who was overjoyed to be fourth flute at the school concert. Don't be so quick to say Fischer's the bad/crazy guy here.

I think this map is wrong. WPRI which is the R.I. CBS affiliate has the Bills-Jets game listed in the TitanTV listings.

Coy Wire AFC ST Player of the Week...
UConn James replied to Heitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Coy Wire --- holding onto a roster spot since 2001 by being in the right place at the right time four times a season. -
These have to be the most annoying commercials:

I always shout back, "Where do you apply that again?!" Head-On --- increasing market share by causing the headaches they purport to cure. -
I, too, was for taking Nugent in the 3rd, or even trading into the late 2nd. At OSU, he was solid from 50+ and put KOs through the endzone. I don't know what happened to him. Maybe he's trying to coast w/o putting much work in the offseason. Maybe the Jets have a sh--head for a ST coach. Maybe he needs more time to adjust to the NFL speed.... Lindell's success has been great news. Word was (after the draft Nugent was in) that in his first season here RL had a shoulder injury that threw off his form. He committed to building up his leg strength. Having Schneck at LS has obviously helped him and Moorman. Since he's shown improvement and commitment to his game, I'm one of his strongest supporters. At the time, I don't think it was entirely unreasonable to want to upgrade if we could, as FGs were projected to be important w/ a struggling O. Hindsight is 20/20. I don't recall anyone saying we should pick him in the 1st, tho.

Albeit, about 10 weeks too late to have any effect for salvaging actual leadership'n'stuff in the locker room.

Just curious. I consider it terrorism, as they blew the side off of a hotel.... but then by your definition, it was targeting U.S. military personnel in the hotel. (My brother is in the Raven group created as a result of Khobar). Your rationale seems like it would absolve McVeigh of 'terrorism' if the day-care center wasn't in Murrah, b/c his beef was with our federal gov't. I don't think 'collateral damage' is a necessity for calling something terrorism.
-
Agreed about the 'toning down' of the broadcasts. CBS got rid of the inch-and-a-half rolling scrolling and mostly just do a modest line at the bottom that goes through the scores. The SNF has been light years ahead in quality of what I thought it would be. Haven't watched a game on FOX b/c I've had no reason to, and I don't watch any of the pregame crap as a rule while the weather is still nice outside.

Despite it being run by FAUX News.... That's exactly what I posted upthread. Look at the Pope's words in what the media has touted as his "apology." He was sorry for the reaction the remarks caused. I don't expect the Pope to apologize for saying something that is true.
-
Where exactly does the Khobar Towers bombing fit in all that? Terrorism is many things. For that a reason, I like my definition better.
-
Where do you get off, JSP?!?! We're supposed to apologize to the Muslims for everything. We must apologize for the Crusades, apologize for being attacked on 9/11.... We must apologize for Daniel Pearl being beheaded. We must apologize to the Muslims for our breathing. Only then can Ahmed eat his falafel in peace.

"I know it when I see it." This is a rich topic to be started by a fuggin' 19-year-old who can't get subject-verb agreement straight.
