2nd Half Thread - Week 17 - Bills at Fins
ShakAttack replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
i've been shaking for 2 hours -
Seems like it'll be the Sammy Watkins "pain management" all over again with KB. Still the ultimate irony of the season to me is how we traded a guy with availability concerns due to foot problems for a guy with availability concerns because of knee problems. ...but KB was from Carolina, so it's all good. Not to mention the price was about the same, since the Rams' 2nd round pick is looking more like a 3rd :x

Beat Fish 2x; Lose to Pats
ShakAttack replied to MarlinTheMagician's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Beat fish 2x easier said than done. For starters it Would be nice if for once we didn’t go into our first meeting with them extremely banged up. They have also been disturbingly successful in games against us with major playoff implications these past few seasons. we better hope KB can go and Webb is not the starter. If either of those 2 things do not work out, we are likely screwed. -
Shaq Lawson and Jordan Matthews to IR

There you go. And I noticed Sammy isn't on that list, but he will be soon. Everyone can enjoy making fun of his stats while you can because he's actually starting to find his role over there in LA.. Heck, I see that everyone has conveniently neglected to mention the fact that he has scored touchdowns in 4 of the past 5 games. -

Aside from Robert woods having a couple dominating performances this season maybe I exaggerated with choice of words but the point is still valid. Watkins looked healthy before this season and still is. He makes plays when thrown to in LA and has been scoring almost every week as of late. A healthy Sammy is better than any receiver we have right now hands down and I highly doubt whoever we draft in the late 2nd round with the rams pick will give us better value (just the odds). Dareus has been playing well since he showed up in Jacksonville. As for Darby and Gilmore they both start on excellent defenses. And before anyone tells me the patriots’ team defense ranking look at how they’ve been playing LATELY and points allowed. Not coincidentally, they’re all starting for teams that are better than ours and are about to do something we haven’t done in 17 years... make the playoffs. Guess they were good enough for playoff caliber teams but not the mighty bills! -

Havent all of the former receivers we let go of before this season already proven that you don’t just get rid of talented players because they had one year of bad luck with injuries? I would be pissed off if we did the same thing with Glenn only to see him dominate for 16 games next season somewhere else . All we are ever doing is creating more team needs and setting us back more and more. Hopefully mcbeane realized availability is unpredictable after their trade for Matthews, a guy that was praised for his overall availability and couldn’t be available half the season for us or hopefully they realized that maybe it wasn’t the receivers from last year, but a quarterback that never throws to receivers in space where they don’t have to get hit hard after every catch -

Honestly I just want to get an update on Tre’Davious. He’s the only one of these names that has been making an impact. He essentially has made 2 game winning plays for us.... and doesn’t even play on offense. Only great defenders do that. Ray Lewis, ed Reed, Khalil Mack, von Miller... and he’s making less rookie mistakes the more experience he gets. We need him. Even against the colts. And I hope Gronk breaks his leg in 2 weeks -
Maybe I am in the minority but I am at the point where I just want the playoff drought to end and I really do not care about what happens after that. We obviously are not good enough to do anything in the playoffs, but the feeling that would come with ending this insanely long playoff drought would probably the best moment of my life as a Bills fan.

So many possibilities & scenarios in this draft. I can't even decide on the outcome I would like the most (assuming we end up with two first round draft picks in the 12-18 range which is what I think they will be) But I think I'd be with you as far as not wanting to give up all of these picks to get a QB. I think if we only had 1-2 needs outside of QB, I'd go for it, but we need a lot more than that and if we bundled all of our picks to trade up for one of the top 3 QBs, we would just set him up to fail. At the same time, I am torn. We do REALLY need a legit first round talent at QB which we literally have not had since Jim Kelly (or Drew Bledsoe if you include trades). We've spent a 10th overall pick on a 3rd round QB (Rob Johnson), we spent another first round pick on a raw but "high upside" QB that most teams had in the 2nd round or later (JP Losman) and then there was EJ Manuel who definitely would not have been drafted in the first round if not for the Bills being so desperate for a QB in the worst possible draft to NEED a QB. So I would be very excited if we finally got a LEGIT first round QB for the first time since Jim Kelly, but if we are going to start him right away, he is going to need some help and if we have to trade away our abundance of draft picks to get that QB, that could be a serious problem. As usual, when we get to April/May, I'm going to be thinking "I wish we tanked after all"... But at the same time, even if we did a proper tank, Cleveland would still have us beat.

This is just to comment on something I find bizarre. This year, it seems nearly all of our players that get hurt are going down with some minor knee injury. And most of them are receivers, but on Sunday that obviously extended to our QB. Two years ago, the team was plagued by hamstring injuries, and it was all our running backs which is why we started bringing guys in off the street like Boom Herron etc. Seems all our injuries are always stacked at one position each year and then it's the same type of injury... you can't make that stuff up. Speaking of things you can't make up. Is anyone else a bit annoyed that suddenly Watkins & "Glass" Goodwin are able to play a full season?? I know the season is not over yet, but it appears that is going to happen. Not as much surprised about Sammy, as I believe he was genuinely healthy during the off-season and that's a big part of the reason I was completely annoyed by A) not picking up his option and B) trading him away, but HOW IN THE WORLD HAS GOODWIN AVOIDED INJURY!?!? Oh, and one other thing that ALWAYS seems to happen................ Every time we are in the hunt with New England up next, we know they are going to beat us, but they never just beat us; they pretty much finish our season in the process. Seems every time we play the Pats in this scenario we come out of the game with significant injuries. I do not have specific examples before this season, well, except for that other cheap shot on JP Losman courtesy of Vince Wilfork that happened many years ago when he was actually having a decent season and he was coming off a couple encouraging performances.
-
I don’t know about that. Have seen a lot of players in concussion protocol get cleared by the next game, but knowing our luck you’re probably right. Whether you want to tank or not the injury still pisses me off because white’s rookie season was one of the few positives we’ve had and I wanted to see what he could do in a full 16 game season. not that it matters to the pats (cause they’ll win anyway) but Gronk should have to miss as much time as White does at the VERY least. I’d even say he should be suspended 3-4 weeks because the nfl needs to make it clear that stuff is unacceptable and on a side note what a damn baby. Your team is up 23-3 late in the 4th quarter and you have 150 yards receiving. Disgusting
-
You don't get it? Are you new to being a Bills fan? But anyway, we have literally been the worst team in the NFL over the past 3 weeks and that is who we are right now (not to mention the utter disarray that we unnecessarily created on top of it all and finding out that our HC is insanely pig headed)

Gameday Thread 1st Half Bills @ Chargers

When we were 5-2 i think most of us did not think this season could possibly turn as badly as 2011...... but boy we were wrong. -

If only Bills fans would actually stop showing up to the games. How many times is the mgmt going to screw us over. As soon as you think there's nothing more they could do, the next week's surprise is revealed... -

Nobody has screwed over Bills fans as much as Mcdermott and Beane. I am disgusted and at a loss for words. How can they keep trotting this kid back out there after every pick? They're even ruining his chances to be a backup in this league. I guess everyone else knew better than the "professionals" we hired and paid to run this team. -
Nathan Peterman to Start this Week.

Hold on now... they've always treated Shady as "one of their own" at least. O wait...that's probably cause he came from Philly.... the other Mcdermott tie. -
Los Angeles is an embarrassment
ShakAttack replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When it comes to the LA Rams, the only thing I think about or care about is how they have proven that Woods & watkins (especially Woods) were good picks at receiver that would have been good enough to build a passing offense around as was intended when they were drafted in consecutive years.................... if we ever had a decent QB. Robert Woods was the most polished & well-rounded receiver we had drafted since Eric Moulds and he went to complete waste. Sickening And I've also come to realize that part of the reason our receivers kept getting hurt in Buffalo probably has something to do with how our QBs frequently throw passes to our receivers with a defender positioned to lay the smackdown right after they catch it. -
Jets Panthers Broncos Falcons Bengals Bucs Raiders Jets or Saints Chargers Chiefs Pats Colts Dolphins Pats Dolphins There are 4 teams in the second half of our schedule playing better football right now than anyone we played in the first part of our schedule. Had to think a little about Panthers, but they've been more inconsistent over the past 4-5 wks than Saints, KC and NE. So I don't know if that formula is supposed to imply this will be easy, but if 5-3 wasn't surprising enough in the first half, it's going to take an even bigger surprise to do it again in the second half.

This. How many times have we been through this since 2008? It has become a sick joke. When we started to get props from the media during both Rex years and now this year I'm conditioned to think "NO! Please don't start that!" because just as soon as we start getting props and respect... is when the Bills fall apart. It NEVER fails. I was even telling my friend how 90% of the pre-game talk on NFL network was about the Bills, as if the Jets did not exist and were not the home team. Now we are back to where we are every other season at this point. It's going to start with "relax - we're still 5-3" and soon we are going to see the playoff scenario threads with all the homers buying in each week until we are mathmatically eliminated and once again, somewhere between 7-9 and 8-8 when it's all said and done. Until the Bills finally break this trend, I have no reason to believe any different. Sad thing is, this team did feel a bit different, really did.. and they ALMOST had me thinking playoffs were a real possibility. I did not think that way when we were at 4-2 last season or the season before that, but it did seem like this was a Bills team that was finding ways to win, instead of ways to lose, and not beating themselves the ways we are used to seeing them beat themselves. ...and then Thursday night football happened. Hopefully it was just that, Thursday night football.... but I doubt it... it's probably the beginning of our usual collapse after playing jets at 5-2

The Week 8 Jets-game-in-promising-seasons curse
ShakAttack replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, the silver lining for me is, normally past the midway point we are missing several key players which contributes to our meltdown, but now we go into the Saints game probably getting Gaines and Clay back with a huge bonus in KB. Now, let's see how much that matters. Won't matter at all if Jets just put out the recipe for how to exploit our oline. Just like they gave everyone the formula to beat our spread offense in 2011 (and we never adjusted) -
The part that bothers me the most... since 2004 we have had at least a few pretty good teams and post-season opportunities. Along the way we pull off some upsets and then get to the critical but relatively easy game in our schedule and EVERY TIME we lose. We see other hot teams take care of lesser opponents en route to the playoffs all the time, but the Bills can never do it. How did Miami sneak into the playoffs last season? They won every game they were supposed to win down the stretch. Sometimes it was ugly, but they did it. One of many examples. I'd like to see us do this just once! I thought this would be the season because we played as a team and seemed to have a certain discipline that the other Bills teams did not have. Not to mention, we came into this game relatively healthy compared to previous weeks while the Jets were supposedly banged up. But we were annihilated. It wasn't even the 2017 Bills out there today. Hopefully it was a case of another sloppy TNF performance, more than a representation of who we really are as a team.
-
Hopefully we start to approach away games the same way we do home games. This is a completely different team at home and obviously teams are generally better at home but the difference should not be as significant as it is here
-
Well it matters towards our record. I know that AFC games are more important but this season 10-6 would probably get us in the playoffs without worrying about tie breakers, as hard as it'll be to get there. Now, if we go 9-7 we will likely be among a few teams fighting for the last playoff spot so yeah those division and conference records will be significant. But the other reason I feel next wk is a must win is because a 2 game losing streak is just bad for the morale of this team especially after what they had been building towards prior to tonights game. Next thing you know we are on a downward spiral just like 2011
-
That was the "easy" part of our schedule, I'm afraid. Just turned Saints into a must win game.
