Training Camp practice 7/30 - The pads come on
SCBills replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
I mean… even reporters are starting to wonder what happens with Crowder given his bike status and how good McKenzie & Shakir have looked. Obviously we’ll know more in pads, and I think you know what you’ve got in a healthy Crowder.. but I think his role on this team is legitimately becoming murky. Perhaps not so far as a roster cut, but if he falls behind, not just McKenzie, but also Shakir.. is he cool just being a rotational/depth guy? -

I don't know if I agree with it being a scheme issue. It's really hard, in todays NFL, to have a clutch/dominant Defense - especially against elite QB's - without a reliable pass rush. Replace Hughes or Addison with Von last year and we are the reigning Super Bowl Champions. That Defense, even without Tre, isn't getting torched by Mahomes evading pressure all day.
-
There are zero reasons why this Defense shouldn't be absolutely absurd once Tre comes back. The starting lineup is literally: Von - PAID 1T - RD1 Pick - Rd1 Pick / PAID Slot - PAID LB - RD1 Pick / PAID CB - RD1 Pick / Best Safety Tandem in the NFL And we have talented depth on the DL, Day 2 LB draft pick, solid CB depth...
-
As others have pointed out though.. We lost Knox for multiple games and our starting LT (who's an upper tier Tackle) was a shell of himself after missing time due to serious Covid effects. The Ravens were an anomaly. I'd say losing a star CB and starting OL for the season (White/Boettger), along with an upper tier level LT and TE missing time throughout the season is in line with most teams. Where the Bills do a really good job is in managing the soft tissue injuries and making sure those don't add up.
-
We literally lost Tre White last year.
-
If he truly can lock down the starting slot role, this Offense looks a lot different than last year. Diggs - McKenzie - Davis, with Knox and Cook is a lot of speed/talent. I was excited about the Crowder signing, but I'm rooting for McKenzie. If we can improve the run game and increase the speed component in this Offense, I'm not sure who's stopping them.

No Crowder again today, according to Sal. Did we actually sign this man, or is this all an elaborate prank?

OT: Belichick says that Mac's improvement is "dramatic"
SCBills replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
Man, this division is going to be tough with Mac making a "dramatic" improvement, Uzomah stating that Wilson will make a Joe Burrow leap and Miami hyping Tua as a god amongst men. -
Cole Beasley given permission to seek trade
SCBills replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall
As someone who respects Cole for his stance, but also thinks he went overboard a bit, I think he felt that being in NY (and on a team with some unvaxxed guys) that he needed to make a point. If he wanted a Crowder deal, he'd be on a team. He clearly does not. I think it's debatable that he'd get the salary/opp he's looking for if he simply was quieter last year. He's still a good player, but he's also lost a step. -
I think a pass catching RB would come to Buffalo. Someone like Nick Chubb or Jonathan Taylor... yea, zero reason why there would be any interest on either side for a guy like that in this Offense, for the money they'd command. Re: NY, I don't think it's nothing.. Weather and Taxes likely come into play for FA's if all things are equal. Which is why it's a good thing, under McBeane/Allen, things are not equal.

I voted for all 3 make the roster. McKenzie, as of right now, is my pick for Day 1 starter. Crowder could win it, but he's behind right now and McKenzie finally has his chance to cement a long term role on this team. I think this has to be the chance he's been waiting for, and from the early reports, he's up for it. Shakir, if he continues impressing, likely rotates in all over the formation.

Adults could probably get some autographs at Commanders Camp.

I think Diggs and Davis have it in them to be a top 3 WR duo in the NFL, but last year we clearly load-managed Diggs, and unintentionally did the same with Davis. Who rotates in for these two throughout the season? Im sure the plan isn’t Kumerow, so as of now, I’m guessing that it’s some variation of Cook, Knox or a slot WR flexing out wide. That can work as long as (knock on wood) Diggs and Davis don’t miss much time, but it’s so bizarre that we’re basically in August now and we have no clarification on an obvious hole. I know half the board beats this drum and the other half wants to stop talking about it… but this is what I’m watching the most in the preseason games. Shakir, McKenzie and Stevenson… can they win against 2’s and 3’s on the outside when given the preseason chances.
-
Hodgins is quickly becoming the new Christian Wade. A guy who's not going to play for us and I have no idea why he constantly comes up in conversation. Diggs Davis Shakir McKenzie Crowder Austin Stevenson Kumerow Of the bottom group, they are fighting for 2 or 3 spots. Hodgins is a PS guy, at best.

Baker has a chance at being a 10-15 range QB. Darnold looks to be destined in a backup role. Plus, you've got to give Baker that Week 1 shot against Cleveland...
-
As someone who's never asked another grown man for an autograph, and never will.. My only hesitation in killing a dude for trying to do this is if they have a kid at home who may be sick or unable to be at the event, and they are trying to get an autograph for them.
-
He's also an outside WR, which certainly helps his chances. I don't even know that his best shot at making the team is as a returner... I think the coaches are looking at him to show as an actual WR in camp.
-
Agreed. Allen, Diggs, Davis and Knox is potentially up there with any group in the league. The slot options “seem” like by end of camp we’ll have a couple solid options to choose from. Not really counting on Howard as anything more than a serviceable TE2, but Cook could be an absolute monster in this Offense. Outside depth, as has been beaten to death, is worrisome.
-
Not sure if he has anything left in the tank. He’s had an underwhelming career, but if he’s truthful about finally being healthy, I could see his speed/shiftiness being utilized in the McKenzie role - if McKenzie ends up holding down a heavy slot role.
-
I think we may have an abundance of talent… For the life of me, I don’t get why people gush over our WR room (at the moment). Diggs - elite Davis - could be a 1A, but we’ll see That’s it in terms of guys I’m completely sold on. ………… McKenzie - Decent role player Shakir - Intriguing Rookie Crowder - Good slot WR, hurt a lot Austin - ??? Stevenson - ??? Kumerow - No Could they be great? Yea, absolutely. There’s certainly potential, but the reason people fear this passing game is 80% Allen, 20% WR’s, currently.
-
This is what it looks like to me as well. Austin sounds like he’s shown a few things so far. Same with Shakir. And McKenzie seems to be taking his opportunity and running with it. If all that continues, big if, I could see Crowder as a cut and the Bills going with Diggs, Davis, McKenzie, Shakir, Austin and Kumerow. Potentially Stevenson if he can show anything as an outside WR.
-
I'm to the point where I think Diggs, Davis, Shakir and McKenzie are 100% locks. Crowder I'd put around 90% and dropping if he stays struggling to get on the field. I wouldn't cut Crowder to keep a guy like Kumerow, but I would cut him if McKenzie/Shakir look the part and then use his money on a vet outside WR.
