I don’t foresee any world where we trade OJ Howard or Crowder. Not sure of the tact/locker room aspect, but I can’t imagine signing two guys to low money contracts with the likely promise of “ball out for a year and then get paid” only to trade them, would sit well around the league. (IMO) I could see Crowder get cut, but I highly doubt it after hearing reports that he looks good in the offense now that he’s back to practice. The league is desperate for OL talent.. Maybe a depth swap for someone Kromer believes he can develop ala the Bates trade.

Having so many perceived locks due to ST’s is a bit frustrating. Taiwan Jones, Tyler Matakevich, Jake Kumerow, Siran Neal… At least Neal flashes some ability on Defense. If Diggs, Davis, McKenzie, Shakir, Crowder and Kumerow are all locks, that’s six receivers. If Hodgins truly is what reports say he could be, are we going with seven WR’s or risking a cut to get him to the PS? Who’s doing what if we sign OBJ after Week One? I can stomach having a couple teams guys, but not if one of them is putting us at risk of losing a camp standout who we spent draft capital on, along with two years of development.

Von Miller on Pat McAfee Show - Josh’s hype man and more OBJ smoke
SCBills replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
He didn’t look overrated in the Super Bowl. Im not trying to sign him and play him over Diggs and Davis, but nobody is defending Allen when he comes out in the Playoffs in 11 personnel with Diggs, Davis, OBJ, Knox and Cook. Cheat code. -
I never really know how to view these things because of the variance in how contracts are structured. Teams not paying a QB may front load contracts at certain position groups, whereas others kick the can down the road. DL spending doesn't suprise me. We're paying Von (again, cap structuring), but Jones, Settle, Phillips and Lawson aren't exactly breaking the bank. Everyone else is on a rookie contract.

I would punch this post in the face if it was a person.

Same here.. I think the starting unit of Von - Oliver - Jones - Rousseau "could" be the best DL in the NFL. Then the second wave of guys have a huge ceiling of potential in Epenesa - Settle - Phillips - Basham. If the young guys make any kind of jump... sheesh.

Yea, sadly due to his battles, he's aged far quicker than the likes of Elway and Marino.
-
I wish it wasn’t so surprising that all those who have been fed lies by Rachel Maddow types for years weren’t falling all over themselves to believe this is it… again. This time he’s gonna pay! Sadly, it’s predictable. The “current thing” crowd has been re-programmed.. Remove Ukraine chip, insert Trump 2.0.

I do not want Trump to be the R nominee. I’ll gladly take DeSantis or Youngkin over him.. but they better have something or you’re going to be very disappointed in how well this plays for him. Far more than 30% of Americans are currently uneasy with what just happened as we wait to see this play out.

Crowder to me is the most interesting player of the preseason. We signed him because we wanted a proven slot WR after letting Cole go. Beane doesn’t like going into the draft with a glaring hole (see, Duke at RB). The two year deal shows that the Bills were hopeful McKenzie would make a jump, but the money shows they weren’t sold on it. Now, all of a sudden, McKenzie looks like he potentially made the jump AND Beane lucked himself into a WR who he would’ve taken in the 4th if we kept our pick. That player, Shakir, seems to be looking like the steal the entire NFL community believes he is. Knowing what they know now.. would they have signed Crowder? Do they trust McKenzie/Shakir enough to move off Crowder in order to keep Hodgins & Kumerow?.. Maybe sign a different one year rental?

Andre Reed heavily suggests that OBJ will sign with Bills
SCBills replied to Giuseppe Tognarelli's topic in The Stadium Wall
Up until today .. and even with OBJ tweeting, I thought this was all smoke with a small chance of happening. Im now thinking we’re going to sign him. -
Yea, I was definitely in the "Stop trying to make Hodgins happen" crowd a few weeks ago... but from all reports, this guy sounds like a legit option to take WR6. I certainly would rather bet on the potential of Hodgins vs the ceiling of what Kumerow is, if it comes down to a battle between them for the last spot.

If you’re confident in McKenzie and Shakir, just cut Crowder and sign OBJ as the 1 year WR rental. You have your Core 4.. Diggs, Davis, McKenzie and Shakir. OBJ becomes the 1 year rental and then we have Hodgins vs Kumerow vs Austin for WR6. -
Different team, different WR skills. We have speed in the slot with McKenzie, but while Diggs/Davis are deep threats, they’re not burners. Slayton has made plays in this league. Shakir shows promise as rotational outside depth, but I wouldn’t mind him having to beat out someone like Slayton for playing time over Kumerow or Hodgins.

Reggie Gilliam signs 2 yr, up to 5.2 mil extension
SCBills replied to Dablitzkrieg's topic in The Stadium Wall
One would think that may change under Dorsey. I certainly don’t want to be run heavy, but I wouldn’t hate a more effective run game to take the heat off Allen and provide more deep shot opportunities. -
7 Bills players that are trending up and down (per Joe B)
SCBills replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree with some of what you, in premise.. but there’s also the reality of how the draft board falls. Unless we wanted to be ultra-aggressive and/or reach, it was not a good draft for us to take a WR early. We’ll see if Shakir is truly the “Day 2 guy who fell to Day 3” steal that everyone says, but - as a guy who really wanted a WR early - I don’t know where we were supposed to go. Honest question.. have you watched James Cook play? I live in SEC country, surrounded by Dawgs fans, that dude could easily be a WR. It seemed to me, at that point in the draft, we just took the best weapon on the board. Happened to be a RB. I could be persuaded that Jermaine Johnson may have been a better pick for our system over Elam. We’ll see how these guys pan out.. but we didn’t lose games defensively because of our corner situation, they were lost due to the DL not being stout against power run teams or being able to finish against top QB’s. We’ve obviously addressed those two concerns, but I have zero issue going overkill on the lines. -
What if Benford is that dude, but Elam isn’t? Does that matter? For the record, I do think Elam is legit. He may take some time, but he has the talent and drive to be successful. Are Diggs and Davis any less of a WR Tandem just because they weren’t RD1 Draft Picks?
-
We obviously seem to be drinking the Kool Aid on this class, but I’m not sure I remember hearing so much positivity about a rookie class in previous memory.. Elam is a guy that people seem to be showing objectivity on. Recognize the potential, but admit he’s struggled against Diggs & Davis. Cook sounds like the real deal. Reports aren’t delusional.. he has things to work on (pass blocking), but he sounds like an absolute weapon who is better in the run game then we even initially thought when we drafted him. Bernard has good reports, and I don’t claim to know a ton about him.. but I’ve seen highlights of him blitzing and the dude screeches across the LOS like a blur. Shakir has glowing practice reports, and all I know is I saw him adjust to that TD pass in the scrimmage like a veteran wide receiver. We seem to have our cost controlled upgrade at punter for the next four years, plus guys like Benford and Spector are pushing to make the 53 (Benford may already be a lock) and this is a loaded roster .. so if a late round rookie makes it .. they’ve earned it.
