Could 2021 see a big increase in salary cap?
Walking Tall replied to pennstate10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There aren’t enough good matchups in one given weekend for networks to want to give the NFL any substantial money for a double or triple header on Saturday. I also don’t think the NFL can just move games to another date (Saturday) and tell the networks it will cost more money for them to carry those games. In fact, I know the NFL can’t do that. Those networks have already paid for the right to carry each game no matter when or where it’s played, Also, that would take away from the Sunday ticket. Thursday, Sunday and Monday Night games are already not carried by that as well as National games on the Sunday afternoons. Take away two or three national games on Saturday’s and buying that package becomes a lot less attractive. I’m sure DirecTV would have to have some sort of say as they already paid the NFL for rights to carry games. That’s taking up to a quarter or more games away (bye weeks) from the Ticket. Not to mention, the attraction of the Ticket is to watch your team when you don’t live in market. Your team will be on National television more which will make getting the Ticket a lot less attractive. All in all, increased money, through television, is a pipe dream for the upcoming season. It’s not going to happen. -

I liked reading what you just posted. I will have a hard time not calling that team the Redskins going forward. I'm sure I will get used to the new name and it will eventually roll off the tongue like Indianapolis Colts (Baltimore) Oakland/Los Angeles/ Oakland/ Las Vegas (Raiders) San Diego/ Los Angeles (Chargers) the Rams...I will call them whatever they rename them because that will be their proper name. If I say the Cowboys play the Refskins this week it won't be done on purpose but I know it will happen. Many, many times. But, I will also refer to them as the Redskins when talking about them when that was their name. It, to me, is no different than saying the Bills had the greatest comeback against the Houston Oilers, and not saying the Houston Texans. -

Maybe someone that finds the name Redskins so very racist could explain how they could possibly have supported a league that a team has such a racist name? Or you can just turn a blind eye to it in the name of entertainment? Or maybe you never watched a Redskins game out of protest? -
I can't believe this is still happening with all the BLM protests in Chicago. https://www.dailywire.com/news/two-more-childen-killed-in-chicago-violence-spike-city-sees-two-mass-shootings-in-under-24-hours

You do realize that Redskins is not offensive to a whole lot of people, to include a whole lot of Native Americans, don't you? https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/new-poll-finds-9-in-10-native-americans-arent-offended-by-redskins-name/2016/05/18/3ea11cfa-161a-11e6-924d-838753295f9a_story.html -

I really don't care what the Redskins change their name to. I am referencing their past and what kind of reaction people are going to have when people called them the Redskins. It appears, at least from this thread, it may cause problems for some when they hear that name. -

OK, so we won't be able to say the Washington Redskins won three SB Championships in their history without being looked upon as acting out or being a racist? I'll be using the name Redskins while referring to their past because that was their name. In fact, it still is yheir name for the time being. Can we not show highlights of past home Redskins games because it does say Redskins in the endzone? Better burn the videos of SB 26 and a host of other SB games. The history won't be wiped away like a statue you don't like. -

I asked you a question. Plain and simple. Easy to answer. What is acceptable moving forward when talking about the Washington Redskins past if a name change is made? And what happens if people insist on calling them what their name was? -

You’re the one that came in here saying he was wrong. It’s not on bilzfancy’s shoulders to prove your case. I wonder if SI will be forced to burn all copies of this magazine? -

It’s not a strawman argument. It’s either a racial slur or it isn’t a racial slur. Do we say, remember the Bills v. Redskins Super Bowl where Andre Reed threw his helmet or is that going to land someone in the Shameville jail? -

Why didn’t you include what he said? He said that the word Redskins is the same as using the “N” word. Do you agree with that? If so, have you ever said Redskins? There is no strawman in asking that. None. -

Have you watched football for the last 35 years? To this day, there are people that slip up and call the Indianapolis Colts the Baltimore Colts. But you failed to answer my question. What should we refer to the Redskins when we talk about their past? -

So, if they do change their name what do we call them when refering to them about their past? Will people start crying and throw tantrums if we say the Redskins were the first opponent the Bills played at Rich Stadium? Will people be looked upon as racists if someone slips up and call them the Redskins? I mean, Redskin appears to be a racial slur so should it now be treated like the N word? Will people lose their jobs if they say that word? And, yes...I am being totally serious about these questions. -
