@SDS - I can only say you gave a bunch of us old BBMB posters really bad flashbacks. 😂 Thanks for all you do and we really appreciate this site.

I 100% agree, but you also have to be very careful about letting him have to much say. Look at Cleveland when they fired Hue Jackson/Greggo. The Browns wanted to make Mayfield comfortable - so instead of keeping Greggo that had won some games or going outside the organization to find a replacement- they just promoted Kitchens (way over promoted) because of Mayfield. I want Josh to have input because he and his next OC need to be able to see eye to eye, but it also has to be someone that fits with the rest of the staff and can call a good game. I do not mind an internal promotion - if they get another assistant on the offensive side that has called plays successfully in the NFL to help if Ken Dorsey or Chad Hall gets the promotion. As to the Wilson situation- I do not want my QB having a ton of input on the players you are bringing in. The HC and GM need to take an entire team approach and can not be fixated on appeasing the QB, but if it is a franchise guy - it seems fairly easy to just be open and have a continuous talk about guys they like and what fits and what doesn’t. I have read the stories - I just do not understand the Wilson saga because that team has done a ton to try and build around Wilson - trading for OLine help, signing questionable players at WR because they might help the pass game, bringing in FA running backs, etc. I get that he felt (feels) dismissed, but dude - look at how that team has tried to help. I want Josh to be happy and feel free to go see Beane/McD to talk about guys and plans, but I also want those guys to push back and say here is our 1, 3, and 5 year plans and we will see how we can mesh. The balancing act is so delicate, but so vital and gets harder and harder as some of these QBs push for things way outside their job description.

So what are you saying? It sounds like you expect the NFL to take an unemployed coach that is under investigation and throw him out of the league? Except that is not how the NFL does anything with conduct. If he was still employed- they could put him on the Commissioners List like the players until the investigation is complete, but guys that are unemployed typically do not find themselves on the list. AB was not on the list after his last release - it was made clear that if signed they would move him to the list, but he was not. Reid was not going to be signed by anyone - so there is no use right now for the NFL to do anything with him. Even once the investigation is complete - I would expect them to quietly inform teams what they already know - he will not be allowed to coach again. They will let this play out and then decide if the KC team deserves any additional blame (fine/loss of draft pick) and then let the courts handle this guy. What would be interesting is if his contract was not up - then I would think he would have been put on the List, but I am sure the team and the NFL knew the situation and knew there was no need to act - the contract takes care of itself. There is just no other reason for the NFL to act another way in this situation - it does not benefit them to come out and punish a guy that is out of the league and it has no impact on the investigation.

Scout Report Jaelan Phillips Edge Miami

Right up until he takes on a power RB - which you admit is a con as his technique is not great and has to retire again. His longevity due to the illness (concussions) is part of the issue and basically your Cons list reads like a billion other middling DEs. He is Shaq Lawson or AJ with less experience. He has speed, but lacks power and struggled against Tackles that could get a hold of him. Again - he has potential to grow, but the Red Flags are all there that he will be done with Football with another hit. Why start out with a guy in that boat. I might take a chance if he was far and away a stud player, but for a guy projected in the late 1st or early 2nd that has a number of flaws - I would let others take that risk. -

The injuries don’t scare you on a guy that retired from college due to concussions? Huge Con and major Red Flag. The guy has played in 20 games over the last 5 years and most of them at a different position. Huge con and Red Flag. One year wonder at DE and has injury concerns - looks to be about Epensa level with maybe a bit more speed, but his hands aren’t as good and he has done it for significantly less time than AJ. I feel about him like AJ - if he falls to us after trading into the 2nd - then fine, but I am not sure with his age and his health concerns he is worthy of a 1st round pick with a potential 5th year option. Just don’t see him lasting in the NFL. -
Totally agree - I am just saying that for that to have been a good deal for Philadelphia- a contract similar to Mahomes with almost all the money tied up in roster bonuses would have been better. For Wentz (and most players) the signing bonus is key as they get that money immediately. It is also the money that becomes dead in Philadelphia, but makes the Indy side look better.
-
It was not that Philadelphia structured the contract well - because they did not in fact structure it well at all. It is the fact that the huge signing/roster bonus stays with Philadelphia and accelerates. It does not follow Wentz to Indy. Philadelphia would have been way better off having yearly guaranteed roster bonuses that went with the contract instead of the upfront signing bonus. 34 million in guaranteed money stayed in Philadelphia and is the only thing that makes this palatable for Indy. This kills Philadelphia, but for just 1 year as all of that money hits in 2021. Indy is protected because after paying the guaranteed 25 million in salary for 2021 - they have the option of cutting him for limited investment and only losing the draft picks.
-
That is true, but then you gave up a higher 2nd and 3rd and a ton of Cap resources for a failure. The worst case is if Wentz is not very good, but the talent on the Colts (especially on D) is good enough to propel them to the Playoffs and you end up trading a 3rd and a late 1st for a JAG. Especially since the Jags and Texans look to potentially be bad and the Titans/Colts could end up winning that division despite QB play - based solely on Defense and RBs. It is worth a risk, but it is a big risk and a lot to give up for a guy that has struggled significantly over the last couple of years.
-
Actually - I think for that contract they gave up a bunch. 3rd this year and a high likely hood off a #1 next year. More than I expected and way more than I would of paid for Wentz. Moves the pressure to Chicago to act on the available QBs.

Mcshay Mock has Najee Harris to Buffalo

Figster - I totally hear you and completely respect your take. I am more afraid that he will be less able to do the things he did at Alabama once he gets to the NFL. I think his Alabama play would be great, but I am not sure he translates completely to the NFL. He loses his biggest advantage of a supremely talented OL and insane talent at WR and I am not sure if he becomes great in a place like Buffalo where he is going to get limited runs (pass first team) and limited passes - Allen is a WR thrower and has not really developed into a check down guy. If he is getting 10-12 rushes a game and maybe 2-3 passes - does he look like the same guy? I also fear what his speed will look like - to me he does not have that break away speed - so can he get the ball to the edge or pile drive the pile if the holes are limited? For me I would prefer to see the Bills go after an absolute speed RB in the later rounds that can do some of the things McKittrick does. Hit the edges and one cut and be gone. -

I just do not think so. The kid looks slow/average with an offense line that was worlds better than the defenses they were playing. Maybe he will excel, but on Alabama his OLine was so much better that he really had very little to do as a RB. In the NFL - I think he is maybe a slightly better version of Moss. Based upon NFL needs - I am not sure he is the best RB in the draft - let alone generational. He certainly is not being talked about like Barkley, CMC, Elliott range of guys - real generational talent that were all still over drafted. He seems more in the Sony Michel, CEH level of RB (late first early second) - nothing wrong with them, but nothing significantly better than RBs picked in later rounds and even several Undrafted FA RBs. In the post season CEH was outplayed by UDFA Williams for KC. You have Michel - a first round pick outplayed by another former Alabama RB in Damien Harris (a third round pick) and both were on par to Singletary and Moss. I think Harris can play - if you stick him on a run heavy team with a Run blocking OL - like Tenn or Baltimore. I think in a pass first offense with a pass first OL - Harris becomes a JAG and I would rather see the Bills go after a speed back in a later round - rather than Harris in RD 1 with a wasted 5th year option. I would feel better about Harris if we moved back into RD 2 - the 10-15 range and picked up some extra picks. -

Some nice Diggs tweets in the thread and a funny Bradley Gelber tweet with JJ Watt in a Bills uniform. It’s a really sweet job! 😂 -
These are cute and funny - here and on the mobile site images. Give them to your significant other. 😁 I love the way they can poke fun at themselves - McD clapping - classic.

Yes the original rumor was potentially 2 firsts from Chicago for Wentz, but that seemed to go over in Chicago like a lead ballon. The most recent rumors was Indy looking at perhaps a 2nd to “take on” the contract. I think that is a more realistic return for Wentz. I agree that I am not sure that impacts Darnold to much, but it really depends on what the team plans to do and do the Jets believe they can salvage Darnold or are they going to lose him for nothing next year because I do not see them exercising the 5th year option. That gives them a short window around the draft to decide if they want to gain picks and move on or hold on and see what they can do with a new coach and plan.
-
I agree that I prefer Darnold as well and think he should be worth more (both as a player and as because of contract). It was interesting to me that when the Wentz talk started and they were looking for 2 firsts - that made Darnold potentially worth a first, but now that Wentz is settling it at perhaps a mid-late round second from Indy does that impact Darnold. I still think a 2nd for Wentz would justify a late first or early second for Darnold, but I think it does lessen his value a bit.
-
What I need to know is with the new reports that the Colts are looking at maybe 1 or at max 2 2nd Rd picks for Wentz - Does a receding tide lower all ships? Does Wentz for 1 2nd pick make Darnold really worth a late 2nd or a 3rd? It will also be interesting with the Wilson talk out of Seattle - what impact does that have on these 2 potential trades and the Watson trade from Houston. Stafford raised the tides, Wentz looked like he is lowering the tides - what ebb and flow. Glad we have our guy!

Mcshay Mock has Najee Harris to Buffalo
Rochesterfan replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No problem with it - if he runs between a 4.40 and 4.45. If as predicted he runs closer to a 4.55+ - then No - I want nothing to do with him. He was the top running back at a school with by far the best Oline - so I have no idea if he will be anything special, but his speed does not impress in highlights and I didn’t think he had to work for yardage. I am not sure if in the NFL he is much better than Moss or Singletary. If you are not getting a speed back in the sub 4.45 range - I think you are wasting your pick if you are the Bills. To me Harris just is not worth the pick - it is like CEH in KC. A first round pick that was no better than 3rd round guys like Singletary or Moss. Maybe he will develop, but you have a limited 4 years - if I am drafting in the first round with the critical 5th year option - I am not drafting RB. Harris becomes much better if I can shift back 10 picks into the 2nd round and acquire more picks, but not in the first. -
I have no problems if they want to offer him something in the 2 year range - not much money - and let him fight for a roster spot. I love the way he is our gadget guy when scouting teams - like being Hill or Jackson, but they barely use him on offense and I think you have some better guys up and coming. If he gets a better offer - let him go, but I think he is well liked and has a limited role.
-
I just don’t know. Brady did what he does - quick reads and quick short passes. He also got a lot of calls that benefited the offense. The throws he made could have been done by 90% of QBs in the NFL including a large number of back-ups and the fact the defense smothered KC - gives credence to the thought, but I look at Mahomes (or Josh) and they had those quick dump off throws and didn’t take them. I think far fewer QBs are comfortable enough to just take those throws and even fewer can read and make the split second decisions to make them consistently work. I think he did very little, but I am not going to assume guys that I think are better QBs could of done that well or done it that easily.

RIP - a great coach and a great man by accounts. 😥 -
I would really like to examine this. I don’t think Brady had much time most of the first half. The difference is Brady has learned to take quick check downs to RBs and TEs. The part of the Game Josh still needs to improve on. I think Brady was content most of the game getting rid of the ball in 2 seconds or less and just hitting the open player for 3-5 yards and moving on. I really think the running game had little impact, but the formations had a bigger impact. It was not that TB could run the ball because they were not very effective in the first half. It was that they could bring in 12 personnel with 2 TEs and a RB to force KC into a base defense and get the LBs on the field. Then attack the LBs with the quick passing game that kept the chains moving.
-
I agree with the ideas here, but the reason they could cover Kelce better was because of the pass rush more than anything else. They had to cover Kelce for a limited time - much shorter than Milano and Edmunds - so of course it looks better. In their first meeting with TB missing some DL and a more healthy OL for KC. Hill and Kelce put up 350 yards receiving on 21 receptions with only 2 incompletions. Kelce had more drops than that in the Super Bowl. I agree we need better DL to get more and better pressure and better OL to hold up in the middle, but if you put Edmunds on TB instead of David - Kelce gets covered for the 2.5 seconds and with Mahomes running backwards 10+ yards on several snaps - it gave the entire TB defense a better opportunity to force plays.
-
Totally disagree - the biggest difference in the 2 gameplans was that: 1) KC lost one of their best lineman at the end of the Bills game making the KC O-line significantly weaker in the Super Bowl. 2) TB had 2 guys outside and 2 guys inside on the DLine that could destroy any 1 on 1 blocking - meaning every snap 1-2 TB rushers were beating their men. The rest of the TB defense was nearly identical to what Buffalo ran. 2 Deep safeties- mostly off coverage with trying to double Hill and Kelce. The difference was the pass rush forcing Mahomes to throw in 2-3 seconds rather than 4-5 seconds. The extra time to pass allows Hill to stretch the Defense and pull defenders deep - opening more space for Kelce. The other big thing was the Kelce drops that multiple times kept drives going against Buffalo, but ended drives in the SB. 3) Officiating and Home field made a huge difference for KC. They got multiple ticky-tac calls against our DBs and nothing called on their DBs. In the SB it went the other way - KC got called for all of the close calls, the off sides, the PI, the holding calls and TB got away with the close calls. The Bills defensive game plan is the plan that works - drop 7 into coverage and double Hill and Kelce, but it requires a pass rush. Early in the season these 2 teams played and Hill destroyed TB because they could not get a pass rush going against the original KC OL. With out their Tackles - the DE/OLB combo could get up field and the DTs had their way with the guards/center combo and that prevented Hill from having time to break free for the completions.
