Well he had 1 blocked and almost had 2 more blocked going that direction.

I can believe this - they both learned leadership from the Evil Empire and if you have narcissistic traits to begin with - learning control from NE is going to lead to issues in the real world. As I said - if he is smart he will move into a role on another team with a successful HC and learn how others handle situations and improve.

I keep seeing all of these posts about him being a good coach and winning, but the truth is that in 3 years - he won 1 more game than Adam Gase did in the 3 years before and that 1 extra win was the addition of the 17th game this year. He also had 1 less playoff appearance than Gase did. Overall Flores was under .500 and had not made the playoffs. He was on his 3 offensive staff and they were looking at having to make another change. He had alienated his QB in back to back years with how he handled the Fitz and Watson situation. I think Flores might have a chance as a good DC, but he does not seem to be the leader that brings out the best in his guys. The expectations grew and he failed and in alienating people - his relationships cost him support and eventually his job. He will get another chance, but if he is smart (unlike guys like Rex and Gase) - he will take a step back and try to get on a successful HC staff to see how he handles things - so he is better going forward because if not - he will flame out in job 2 also. He needs to learn more how to handle the job of HC.

If the Bills re-sign Edmunds, they're stupid.
Rochesterfan replied to damj's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don’t know how he would be in a traditional 4-3 as an OLB. He might be great or he might struggle. He has unique abilities, but I would not want him playing the strong side. He is really a zone coverage LB that can pick up and play man as needed. I think on the outside you are limiting his effectiveness. The only way it works is with a top MLB guy and in that case the OLB become more afterthoughts anyway. He is not a rush OLB and he is not a strong side OLB taking on TEs and pulling guards to make plays. He really is actually nearly perfectly suited to the role he has in the middle of a disciplined pass first defense. -
I think people are making to much of it. He is playing the role Bates played before becoming our guard - he is the extra lineman brought in. The increase emphasis on running has given him extra snaps the last 2 games and he does play with nice strength and a bit of an attitude. He drove a jet defender to the turf yesterday and then got into a nice scrum with the player. He also had a penalty - I believe - and missed a least one block on the outside. He is less athletic than Bates, but Brown, Doyle, and Williams on the right side is a lot of beef and attitude.

Because they are rated number 1 in a number of categories and they already have a 2nd LB in Milano - so moving Edmunds means taking Milano off the field and bringing in a less athletic and worse player in Edmunds spot. They do not have traditional inside and OLB set-ups - they are essentially playing with 2 hybrid backers that they move around for match-ups. Then they use a nickel CB as extra coverage and to fill cutback lanes. They are seeing the same things we see with Edmunds - it is just the Bills know what they are asking him to do and since he is not in the doghouse like some players that struggle and since the defense seems to be elite and he is making all of the calls - maybe he is doing exactly what is asked and it is Bills fans that are missing exactly how vital he is. -
Depends upon whether the head coach is alienating others like the owner. Especially if said owner pushed hard to draft the kid with questionable potential. Maybe the owner decides to side with the GM that sits with him in the booth occasionally over the guy that in 3 years was no better than their previous coach and made the playoffs 1 less time. I said earlier this year that Flores was doing a poor job managing that team - going back to how he handled things last year. This is a composite decision that the bad rot underneath outweighed the way they played at the end.
-
Where are these reports. The media down there has been saying outright that it is not true. The reports are that he had isolated his QB and had bad relationships with GM and other staff. Those relationships matter and if you push enough people the wrong way - eventually it comes around to bite you.
-
Not really - he never once worked to squash the Watson rumors - he talked around them and never threw his support behind Tua. There is a lot of chatter that this move is a sign that they are supporting Tua in Miami and this change is to help with that. Flores was the reason Watson wanted Miami - a coach of color. If he had just come out and squashed the rumor - things might have turned around sooner. The win streak starts after the trade deadline and suddenly Tua is the undisputed QB.
-
Just as an aside to this - Both he and Gase coached 3 seasons in Miami. The difference was the one extra game this year that Flores won. Plus Gase at least made the Playoffs one year. Everyone thinks Gase is terrible, but Flores record was really no better and he never made the playoffs.
-
I just believe he was terrible at making relationships. He screwed up the situation last year with Fitz and then left Tua out to dry through the trade deadline. I have to believe Tua is thrilled he is gone. I could see him going to Houston, but he seems to me exactly like Bill O’Brien type coach - so we will see what happens.
-
Watson only wants Miami because of Flores - I think this will change where Watson wants to go. Watson wanted a coach of color.

1/9/22 Gameday AFCE Champs vs Jets Postgame Thread.
Rochesterfan replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
My issue with Wilson is the personality fit with the Jets. I thought they screwed that up more than anything. They hated Darnold (and Sanchez before that) because of their laid back Southern Cali vibe. The issue is Wilson is more of a laid back mid-western vibe and he has already been chewed on by the NYC press. The guy they love the most is Namath - a larger than life personality that fit with that NYC lifestyle. I think Wilson can get better - I just think someone like Justin Fields would have been a better personality fit - making an easier and better transition. -
The good and the bad (just one each) for you in this game
Rochesterfan replied to Italian Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall
It is hard to take something off because then the wind drives the ball. The throws downfield - both with and against the wind - when he tried to throw a touch pass - the ball got away to the sidelines - pushing both Diggs and Davis OOB. The throws on a rope - got to the spot he wanted, but on a cold, wet day are hard to catch. It is very hard to find the right balance in weather like that. He takes something off on the throws to Davis and the Ball moves - especially on throws into the wind and to the right. Those throws were most impacted and were the most common to Davis. The throws to the right that worked were the rope to Diggs for the TD and the Rope to McKenzie for the first down - both on plays he scrambled to the right making the passes more straight on throws. That wind was no joke and played havoc with the passing attack as seen by the with the wind versus the into the wind splits. It affects how Josh has to throw, where he can throw, and the touch he can use and it also impacts the WRs and how routes are run - leading to some issues. -
I think in a normal weather game - that snap is within Haack’s frame and goes off normally. People forget but those snaps are basically 15 yard passes and just like sometimes JA passes get pushed by the wind - so too do the snaps. That snap was essentially with the wind - so it gets pushed faster and arrives quicker than normal. The ball also moved away giving less time to react. It is still Haacks primary job to catch it and go, but the same can be said of Diggs, Davis, and Beasley - all of whom had balls and throws they misplayed. The wind once again played a huge role in the entire game - Offense, Defense, and Special Teams.
-
I think part of the issue is when Haack normally kicks the ball - he gets a ton of back spin. It was part of the reason he was so good placing the ball around the goal line in years past. He gets the ball to bounce straight up or even draws it back, but that is not what you want kicking into the wind. You saw him on the sidelines practicing drops. I think on the first kick - you saw the ball move between his drop and the ball hitting his foot. The second short kick was no different than when Mann kicked it into the wind for 28 yards. The ball went up and died - the wind pushed it back and down. The fumbled snap - the ball from Reid moved almost 3 feet to the left. Typically Reid hits him chest high between the numbers. That snap was not only outside of Haacks body - it was a full body to the left. It looked like the snap and then the wind moved the ball left - making it difficult to react to. Haack has not been good, but Mann kicking into the wind was no better with short kicks and a block. It is most likely an off season issue, but I am not expecting anything at this point.

Should Something Be Done To Fix The Pro Bowl?
Rochesterfan replied to ndirish1978's topic in The Stadium Wall
And yet the Pro Bowl still garners higher ratings than competing NBA and NHL games - so it still makes the networks and the NFL money. For the players - especially those on the rookie wage scale - it also directly equates to money and the fifth year option. I really don’t care if they move on or not, but I think the NFL will try to do everything they can to keep it and get one more week of money from the networks and the networks want that one more week of football because of ratings. -
Braden Mann-Meat vs Haack...who is the better punter?
Rochesterfan replied to Sherlock Holmes's topic in The Stadium Wall
Considering Mann had a 28 yard kick into the wind and a block - I think weather was the biggest factor in some of the kicks. -
Broncos are in the market for a new head coach
Rochesterfan replied to Pokebball's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don’t think so. I know they kept saying that, but Fangio had chances to be better, but he was terrible with in-game decisions. Case in point the field goal at the end. I think even with Rodgers - he alone costs them 3-4 games with his decisions. He is a fabulous DC and from everything said a great guy, but from the games I saw over his 3 years - he should not be a head coach. I expect them to look at GB (Hackett) to try and entice Rodgers. -
Re-thinking the hiring of color commentators
Rochesterfan replied to Miyagi-Do Karate's topic in The Stadium Wall
Baldy did color for a while - was not very good. - I don’t think there was enough time for him to do and say everything he needed to. He is much better doing his screen grabs for Twitter. He has time to point out exactly what he wants and say it how he wants.
