Your post made me do some research why he didnt leave a good taste in my mouth. I think my main issue was he got a 4 year contract but really only produced for 1.5 years of it. Plus in 2009 he went to the Phillies in a complete attempt to get a ring that year. I mean not my least favorite Met but I wasn't a fan. Btw I looked him up on this site https://ultimatemets.com/profile.php?PlayerCode=0750&tabno=7 If you're not familiar with or hadn't heard of it it's pretty cool. It gives fan memories of all the Mets and all the games. It's not really as active as it used to be but still a good source of info. It’s cool as well to read Reds fans that still think fondly on Johnny. Yeah I agree Glavine and Beltran don’t leave a good taste in my mouth. I’d say ditto for Pedro Martinez. He helped bring the franchise back to credibility but overstayed his welcome if I remember right. Max Scherzer against San Diego still bothers me. For that kind of money that kind of effort. But imo Josh Allen as well gets coddled a bit much by this fanbase. Though that AIDS comment was funny you mentioned 😊

The meat of that I agree with. Much as I appreciate a 2000 Ravens like defense it seems kind of dated in a way today. You can’t win in todays NFL as a defensive minded coach. Or at the very least a real strong OC. But yeah for sure Bills have their work cut out on offense

@SinceThe70s@ExWNYer Speaking of Mets commercials this one is a real blast from the past! Johnnys sort of a guy I think a little more fondly on with time. Had a solid run with the Mets. But I was ready to see him go at the end there. I recall he was in his 40s and clubhouse politics came up. But as I said today I think more fondly Al Leiter on the other hand just not a fan. He had some great gutty performances but overstayed his welcome. Still not really a fan of his personality today. idk why but 90s/early 00 Met teams I think of those two

For me it was a Mets game in September 2003. My grandmother was dying in a nearby Flushing hospital. They only let so many visitors in the facility at once so my dad and I went to a Met game that day. Despite being just 5 minutes away we didn’t get in the stadium until the 3rd inning because of US Open tennis traffic. The game was horrible on its own. It was against the Phillies and the Mets didn’t get a hit until the 7th inning. Just a lifeless Art Howe Mets team effort. They lost like 5-1. What made it even worse was Jose Reyes injured himself on the last play of the game. At that time he was the only reason to watch the games for future hope. Yeah an awful game and an awful time in my life. My grandmother passed not that much later and I practically failed out of college that semester. End sob story

Since you still watch the games how is the broadcast? Walt Frazier and John Andariese back in the day were good together

I always did want to sit in one of the first 20 rows back from the court for a pro game. I think it was 2014 but since the Sixers were dead last that year I was able to buy some seats of the secondary market for considerably cheap. Was actually kinda cool. Ticket costs today I’d never have an interest any more. Will Smith was actually there that night for 1/2 the game. Front row of course But yeah Allen Iverson was probably the last player I was a fan of

He had a role in the film Night Shift I recall with Michael Keaton and Henry Winkler. Pretty good movie. I think him and Winkler are cousins. It’s one of my favorite songs and he was in the music video. The vacation home got double booked

Obviously the Sabres would be popular on this site. But I see threads here as well that discuss the Yankees, Mets, baseball in general, and college hoops. Not so much for the NBA though. In the 90s I was a big basketball fan, 2000-2010 I wasn’t a fan but still knew what was going on, since then for the most part I could care less. I was happy when the Cavs won in 2016 but that’s about it. Among many reasons the game revolving around the 3 point shot is kind of a turnoff to me. I would add I just saw what the Phoenix Suns jerseys look like these days…. they are ugly. The Valley??

This reminded me of one of the few times in high school I was in the same room with Jay Williams so to speak. I got knocked out 1 week with the flu in high school and missed some of my midterm exams. So with a doctors note I was able to get some of my exams re-taken in the library. So who else is there but Jay this one day doing the same thing . I just wonder now how he was able to get out of his Chemistry exam so to speak lol. In retrospect it was kind of funny seeing him make a sign of the cross before he took his exams. From the little I saw of him he's not much different than how he is today on TV: very smiley and extroverted. A topic for another thread but I dont think the core of people's personalities change all that much from when they are younger. Ever see this movie?

Even me someone who lives 400 miles away from Orchard Park recognized Mark's name. It seems he always used to pop up in stories talking about Buffalo Bills fan behavior at and or around the Stadium 😂 I don't remember Justin. Seems he had a very fascinating short life. Whether it’s grade, high school, or college? I went to high school with Jay Williams. Former college basketball player of the year and Duke and now ESPN announcer. Well he was actually a few years older than me but there was two years we intersected time there. It was a Catholic school. I hated the place and most other kids there. I mean I never hanged or even met him but Jay seems a solid guy though. I was impressed with him in the show Best Shot where he tried to mentor youth in the inner city. I will just leave it as there are a lot of people imo in society that speak a good game but don’t actually gets hands on with trying to help. It was a very good series

The Super Bowl halftime shows I recall watching maybe 10-20 years ago were Prince, Tom Petty, Paul McCartney, and Madonna. I would say at that point their height of popularity passed. Those I enjoyed watching. While the halftime was always a big show it seems since then these artists that get chosen now are more and more at the height of their popularity. I believe Rihanna is the it girl right now (she’s only in her 30s). While I admit I did like the Bruno Mars performance the whole game and night is much more pop culture oriented than ever. And really with every fiber of my being I could care less to watch the game. Unless of course the Bills would be in it.

My initial reaction when he retired was too bad the back prevented him from it being a possibility. But I mean my initial reaction with Scott Rolen was great career but a cut below the Hall of Fame. And I mean the Hall imo is turning more into a place for the very good.

The Patriots Dynasty era was the start of me being more and more disinterested in the big game so to speak. At the time I just chalked it up to it seeming like the same teams were competing every year: Patriots,Broncos and or Colts with Peyton, and Big Ben with the Steelers. Like when the Patriots dynasty breaks up it'll get more interesting again. But now I am even more disinterested in Sunday's game. I chalk it up to age and disinterest in the league as a whole these days outside Buffalo and a few other teams.

I’m in my late 30s and don’t really care much anymore. I was a Knicks fan as well up until the point Oakley and Starks got traded. Idk I never fully warmed up to them after that. But as a kid I hated the Bulls with a passion. At my age now I look back with appreciation on what those Chicago teams accomplished In my 20s even during the Drought, losses would linger on for weeks with me. The Dallas 07 loss was terrible as was 09 opening night. Even the Stevie drop game in 2010 against the Steelers I took hard. But I grew up and all those 3 games I took harder than 13 seconds. The Bengals game I was over it 20 minutes later. I mean it was sad the team didn’t meet their goals but c’est la vie. I’ve seen and been through things a lot worse than that in life Im older. I see it all as a big business sports. But in general sports doesn’t have the same effect on me as a kid. I can’t say I love sports anymore

You are correct. Rich Kotite won a playoff game in 92 with them. Ironically that day they won in Jan 93 was later on that day after The Comeback. Obviously wasn’t as big a comeback but I know they were down at that game at halftime. Golden days of sports

I agree with your takes especially the bolden sentence. It seems nothing is ever Josh's bad, it must be the result of a bad offensive line, bad play calling, etc.... However, he's not a one man island and definitely can't do it alone. But to insinuate there still aren't ways he can't improve is just foolish. When Allen first came in the league I watched one of Kurt's reviews of his game plans and thought he was unnecessarily harsh on him and got turned off from watching his game reviews after that. But this one imo was very fair. He even complimented him at the beginning and several times during the video. Seeing the field better for the short throws is something he can work on.
