So ridiculous. Here's the real measurement for Josh Allen yesterday:
-
And he's got a point so far on Allen’s clutchness. Today was Josh Allen’s 30th career start, 9th career Game Winning Drive and 7th career 4th quarter comeback. And I know last week he was 6/9 passing on 3rd down, which tied him with Mahomes in week 1 for 3rd down efficiency passing on 3rd down right behind the Great Gardner Minshew. Sure looked like he was still pretty darn efficient on 3rd down this week, though the play by play and exact number for him aren't up, yet. As for that drive today... Joe B has a nice breakdown of it in his 7 observations from today at The Athletic: https://theathletic.com/2081114/2020/09/20/seven-observations-from-the-bills-win-is-josh-allen-turning-into-a-star?source=user-shared-article Allen’s defining drive With the big picture out of the way, let’s focus on the drive when Allen truly took the game over. It’s when Sunday’s performance replaced the one Allen had at Dallas on Thanksgiving last year as the best of his career. The Bills had to shake off yet another dormant third quarter and watched as the Dolphins took the lead with 10 minutes remaining. It could have been a debilitating moment, one that unraveled some teams. So could some of the moments during the Bills’ ensuing drive. Allen made a statement throw on first down, connecting with Diggs on a perfectly thrown deep ball, under pressure, and squarely between the defeated cornerback and late-arriving safety. The 47-yard connection quickly had the Bills in striking distance. Then the Bills took a step back on the next two plays. Center Mitch Morse received a penalty for an illegal block above the waist, making it first-and-20. Allen couldn’t escape the pocket and the Dolphins took him down for a sack. That has been enough in the past two seasons to sink a promising drive. The next play, Allen delivered a 24-yard touch throw to Cole Beasley for a first down, patiently waiting for his target to win on the route. After Devin Singletary ran the Bills into a first-and-goal situation, progress began to stall once again, and the Bills faced a third-and-goal from 6 yards out. Allen took over once again and showed he was in full control. As he was scanning the field, he felt pressure coming wide from his right side. Allen knew he would have to change his spot in the pocket. Allen had the presence of mind to switch the ball to his left hand, and he broke the arm tackle. He then switched the ball back to his throwing hand, changed his angle to free receivers from the coverage and finally gave rookie wide receiver Gabriel Davis a chance, as only Davis could make the play. Luckily for Allen, Davis made an equally impressive full-extension catch for the go-ahead touchdown. Despite all of the things working against the Bills leading to that moment, Allen delivered a drive to remove the slowly creeping doubts about letting a certain victory get away. Those are the moments in tight games that define quarterbacks, and Allen gave further reason for belief. Maybe Allen should just see if Val Kilmer will give him the rights already

They did? They posted Allen’s Completion % and Passer Rating through 2 games? Link? You won't find the threadbuif they were merged but surely you'll easily find the posts with those updated stats. From now on in order to calm the nerves of the wannabe mod in you I will instead just update the title with his new Completion percentage and passer rating after each game... because we all gotta make sure you're happy

https://www.si.com/nfl/2020/09/20/week-2-takeaways-breakdown-dak-comeback-falcons-choke-josh-allen-fire Josh Allen Is Ablaze: Last week was about dink-and-dunk, this week they opened things up and went after the Dolphins safeties, especially in the fourth quarter when Allen—with the exception of one miscommunication with John Brown that left a big play on the field (and was probably the quarterback’s fault)—was spectacular. He threw for 417 on 35 pass attempts and had four touchdowns with no turnovers, leading a fourth-quarter comeback with two touchdown drives in the final 10 minutes. The Jets and Dolphins (minus Bryon Jones) aren’t world-beaters, but Allen is sitting at 9.00 yards per attempt, a completion percentage over 70, and six touchdowns without an interception through two games. He'll miss some layups and people will get all worked up about it. But the stress he put on his first two opponents—due to his arm talent, legs and improved accuracy—has been overwhelming. Monson is still... well... you decide...

Who gets promoted when Daboll becomes a HC?

with 7 TDs and 2 Turnovers. Were there missed throws? Sure. Should they detract from what the overarching national discussion should be about the Bills this week--that ALLEN HAS ARRIVED--no. This was a truly great pocket passing performance. Allen didn't need his legs. So excited about this guy with the weapons around him moving forward!

You are speaking to someone who takes no part in social media. TBD is honestly the closest I get to social media other than going onto Twitter to search for certain things rather than get sucked into the abyss of lunacy the way so many do. So frankly I had no idea if it was factually accurate despite logically suspecting it was because... well... Josh Allen. It's not a sentence I have an issue with. It's a narrative.
-
To further emphasize the stupidity of the narrative against Allen, here's the very first sentence of The Athletics Week 2 NFL Picks Against the spread The clip of Josh Allen rolling to his left and badly missing John Brown in the end zone last week made the rounds on social media, but overall Allen got off to an encouraging start.

I feel the same way about Cowherd. Entertaining, but often a narrow-minded idiot. I understand why he doesn't take fan calls the way Dan Patrick does because it's often so easy to very simply point out how he's completely contradicted himself. I actually thought he was one of the few really coming around on Josh and was kinda surprised when he went into a little rant about that missed pass to Brown as proof of why Josh will always need to run.

https://theathletic.com/2067076/2020/09/15/bills-rewind-10-things-we-learned-from-the-season-opening-win-over-the-jets?source=user-shared-article Josh Allen by the numbers Josh Allen had career highs with 33 completions and 312 passing yards on Sunday. He also completed 71 percent of his passes for a tidy stat line through the air. If it looked like the Bills were sticking with shorter passes, the numbers back that up. Allen had an average of 5.5 air yards on his completions, which was right around the middle of the league’s top performers this week. He also attempted only four passes that traveled 20 or more yards in the air. The good news is Allen completed three of those passes after being one of the league’s worst passers in that range a year ago. It’s a small sample size, but promising nonetheless. Of Allen’s 46 passing attempts, 12 of them were thrown at or behind the line of scrimmage. Only Aaron Rogers and Kyler Murray attempted more such passes. A year ago, Allen was tied for 21st in the NFL with 79 passes at or behind the line of scrimmage. The addition of Diggs along with rookies Gabriel Davis and running back Zack Moss give the Bills even more options in the screen game. Dawson Knox also caught a screen pass Sunday. It was clearly a point of emphasis in training camp, and now Buffalo has a new wrinkle for its offense. It’s particularly useful when going against a defense like the Jets, coached by Gregg Williams, who loves to blitz.

Thanks for pointing this one out! That one kinda gnawed at me but I was riding the high of the victory. That play was a great example of Allen’s progress in terms of both game awareness and deep ball accuracy. Brown should've caught that. The Brady one might have been intentionally high because of the coverage, but I wish tons of people would Twitter blast that Mahomes pass to Sam Monson and Colin Cowherd and whoever points to that missed pass to John Brown as "welp... that’s just who Josh Allen is!"
-
It was so damn predictable as soon as that play was done. This morning Cowherd went on some rant about how, unlike Lamar Jackson who he believes will inevitably evolve into a pure pocket passer who doesn't need to run, Josh Allen will ALWAYS need to be an effective runner... and he pointed to that one play as the reason. Talk about cherry picking. Of course, he is also in love with Sam Darnold who was absolutely awful yesterday and wildly missed a ton of passes.
