Should absentee ballots be illegal?
Buffalo_Gal replied to Warren Zevon's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
1 in 5 Ballots Rejected as Fraud Is Charged in N.J. Mail-In Election Following accusations of widespread fraud, voter intimidation, and ballot theft in the May 12 municipal elections in Paterson, N.J., state Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal (pictured) announced Thursday he is charging four men with voter fraud – including the vice president of the City Council and a candidate for that body. </snip> In the City Council election, 16,747 vote-by-mail ballots were received, but only 13,557 votes were counted. More than 3,190 votes, 19% of the total ballots cast, were disqualified by the board of elections. Due to the pandemic, Paterson’s election was done through vote-by-mail. Community organizations, such as the city’s NAACP chapter, are calling for the entire election to be invalidated. Mail-in ballots have long been acknowledged by voting experts to be more susceptible to fraud and irregularities than in-person voting. This has raised concerns from President Trump and other Republicans about the integrity of national elections in November, which are expected to include a dramatic increase in mail-in ballots. If Paterson is any guide, it ought to concern Democrats as well. Over 800 ballots in Paterson were invalidated for appearing in mailboxes improperly bundled together – including a one mailbox where hundreds of ballots were in a single packet. The bundles were turned over to law enforcement to investigate potential criminal activity related to the collection of the ballots. </snip> -
2020 Election is officially Trump vs Biden

I think this is what the "25th amendment" screaming has been about since the VP has to be in on it. It does appear the "msm" and tech giants are all in on dragging Biden's corrupt ass across the finish line. Suppression polls, article claiming republicans are turning against President Trump (to vote for Basement Biden? Uhh sure), cancel culture if you even appear to make a positive statement about President Trump, etc. All set-up to demoralize the base. -

Oh, Joe Biden's brain is quite sick. A qualified neurologist could determine how/with what, exactly. The rest of us simply see cognitive degeneration. You might want to check out some of his speeches from 10, 20 years ago. That was Biden's foot-in-mouth (well, and lying) disease. Today's disease is something entirely different. -

Consumer spending was up 8.2 percent in May. It will be interesting going forward to see if March (-6.6%) and April (-12.6%) are "made up" or if those sales are lost forever. Impulse buying vs need?

I posted in the national open up thread that Fairfax VA schools are not opening in the fall (2 days max IF you choose that), and today CT said it will be opening schools, NJ is close to a decision (which sounded like yes to reopening). That is helpful. Not only will schools reopening help businesses get back to normal, but if kids are not carriers (which I find hard to believe, but the data that has come out seems to support that they are not super spreaders/getters) they will be fine. The teachers will get it, and help spread it, helping us reach herd immunity. Now, if I am a 60 year-old+ teacher or school administrator with some other health issue? I might seriously consider retiring. But otherwise? I think schools opening go a long, long way to normalcy and economic recovery. -
Everything Joe Biden--Gaffes, Miscues, Touching, Songs

To me it reads as more than masks (which studies have shows is not a preventative and may make for worse problems), it is that he would sign an EO mandating what people should wear. Now, some would screech, it is for the greater good. Others will yell, Civil Liberties! But at the end of the day, this corrupt dementia patient thinks he knows what is best for what the citizens of the country should wear. What is next? Identification badges? Burkas? SMH -

But, Trump is a dictator. Never mind the research showing masks do not help, and may actually hurt... Biden is going to use an an EO to mandate what you wear in public. And no, that is not extrapolation. Joe Biden says he would require Americans to wear masks in public Joe Biden said on Thursday that if he were president, he would mandate that every American wear a mask in public to combat the spread of the coronavirus. In an interview with KDKA, the CBS affiliate in Pittsburgh, the presumptive Democratic nominee said he would attempt to leverage federal power to mandate mask wearing. “The one thing we do know is these masks make a gigantic difference,” he said. “I would insist that everybody out in public be wearing that mask. Anyone to reopen would have to make sure that they walked into a business that had masks.” When asked whether that meant using executive actions to try to require such actions, Biden said he would use the power of the office. “Yes, I would,” he said. “From an executive standpoint, yes, I would.” Asked if that meant he would be effectively mandating that all Americans wear a mask, he responded by saying, “I would do everything possible to make it required that people had to wear masks in public.” </snip> -

Trump Wants To Regulate Google

I was going to quote the original post about the Feds + all 50 states AGs, but... I didn't want to spend an hour of my life looking for it. In any event, an update: U.S. and states' Google antitrust probe nears finish line The U.S. Justice Department is seeking the final documents to complete an antitrust investigation of Alphabet Inc’s Google (GOOGL.O), said three sources familiar with the probe, which is expected to end with a lawsuit this summer. State attorneys general have separate probes into Google, and the U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee has ongoing investigations into Google, Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O), Facebook Inc (FB.O) and Apple Inc (AAPL.O). The department has requested information by the end of June from companies concerned about Google’s abuse of its advertising clout, as well as those with data that could be used to support a complaint against Google, the sources said, noting that the deadline could be extended. </snip> -
