  1. Anecdotal ... So tonight at dinner I hear someone mention "Nancy Pelosi" so my ears perk up (because I'm nosey, and they were not quiet). There was a table of five two seatings away from us making no effort to lower their voices as they discussed how ridiculous it was for Nancy Pelosi to disinvite Trump for the state of the union, with chirping and chiming from the others at the table about the Democrats "not wanting border security." Now for all I know this lady was the head of the local Republican party, and she was out to dinner with staff. But, that would not explain the second table we overheard on our way out the door complaining about "the Democrats not wanting to open the government". It is possible more people are paying attention to this shut down than I would have supposed, and it is also possible that many people are not blaming the Rs nor Trump, in spite of what the MSM is spewing. (This is Florida though, so who knows.)
  2. Boy that headline is misleading (shocker). "We either should have a federal law that prohibits marijuana everywhere, which I would support myself. Because I think that it’s a mistake to back off on marijuana. However, if we [don’t] want a federal approach, if we want states to have their own laws, then let’s get there and let’s get there the right way,” Barr told Booker. He was questioned many times about this, and his basic summation was - we won't use DOJ resources to go after people complying with state laws. However, do your stinkin' jobs and legislate. Something about these competing laws being disrespectful (it was the end of a sentence to K Harris, so I may have missed the exact working and might be paraphrasing).
  3. That would be me. I'd have done an eye-roll, but the skeptical was as close as it gets. ?
  4. Stuck driving all day, I listened to about 85% of the hearings (so no facial expressions). From what I gathered, this guy must be pretty connected in Washington (good and bad thing) - heck where his daughters all work are connections enough. ? From the questioning, there were only a few idiots - Sheldon Whitehouse (D, RI) and Mazie Hirono (D, HI) being the two that stood out as particularly stupid. They all wanted him to "commit" to something or another (both the Ds and Rs). I didn't hear many "gotchyas" because it quickly became evident that it was unlikely anyone was gonna "get" Barr. He'd been there, done this, and was not intimidated. I'd definitely agree he has gravitas. He did get a number of Senators to agree with him that they needed to start doing their stinkin' jobs regarding passing laws (pot was one). If this was honest times instead of political grandstanding-times, he'd again be confirmed unanimously. Will he be a good AG? No idea, but he's definitely not in it for the glory.
  5. Oh sure, former waitress = city council member, two term mayor, oil and gas commission member, governor and VP candidate. {insert eye roll} exactly like Palin. And and the only thing she (OC) has in common with President Trump is they are both serving their first terms in a political office - she got 12k votes in her primary to secure election in a heavily Democratic district, he got 63m votes and took on the MSM, Clinton machine and deep state. Totally the same. The national review talking points in this new meme are crazy.
  6. I'm not sure this is going to work out the way Macron thinks it is going to work out: French riot police are now using semi-automatic weapons with live ammunition against Yellow Vest protestors as Macron's law and order crisis spirals * Officers were filmed brandishing weapons by Arc de Triomphe in Paris today * Riot police were on crowd control duty today facing off a mob of Gilet Jaunes * Rifles at demonstration by unarmed citizens show how Macron crisis intensifies * Last week former conservative minster said live fire should be used on 'thugs' </snip>
  7. I think it would be fair to say that the Washington Post is not President Trump's favorite publication. Ouch:
  8. I think that, in addition to M&T (as previously mentioned) they may also be referring to all the back end offices for a number of major banks as part of financial services too. I forget the exact number of 'em, but there is more than just UB for college in the area too. I'd assume UB is the biggest and brightest, but definitely not the only.
  9. And I'm guessing none of these NIMBY people notices the irony of this stance?
  10. Another Saturday, another day of Yellow Vest protests. These look a little chippier than the last few though. I do not know what the end game is here, but it is again all over France and not centered in Paris: (his timeline has a ton of video) And here is a live feed:
  11. The replies to Chris Hayes and David Folkenflik are brutal. Assuming they had any self awareness, they might take some of it to heart.
  12. Best ending: Newhart I still laugh at that one just thinking about it today Worst ending: How I Met Your Mother Sooooo we made this ending the first season we filmed because we thought it would go this way. Then, the series went that way. But we had this ending we were so smart to make when the series began.... so even though it no longer worked with the series we wrote, we still used it. There was a reason this was universally panned.
