Metcalf was the only player that interested me as usually giving up multiple firsts plus and then paying a top of the market contract to said player has a horrible track record. If we can get Metcalf for a 2nd and a 4th or something like that I have no problem with the Bills paying him $30m plus a year. We need elite players at premium positions on either side of the ball.

I was never a fan of it to begin with. The worst thing you can do is give up hefty compensation (two first rounders plus) for a non QB and then make that player the highest paid at that position in the league. Except for Metcalf because the trade assets wouldn't be as crippling.

I think that was Tom Moore but still a great quote. As for the backup QB, it will be a competition between Trubisky and White throughout training camp. We save $2.5m by cutting Trubisky so the hope is White wins. If Trubisky is clearly the better QB though we keep him. There's always the chance of a 4 to 6 week injury to Josh where if we just can go .500 we still make the playoffs.

Browns may not trade Garrett to an AFC team. Bengals may not trade Hendrickson to a conference rival. Metcalf might not want to come here because it's too cold if we go the offensive route. I think there's one big free agent trade or signing that Beane makes on the D-line but the concept of draft, develop, and re-sign the players you hit on a year before their contract's up is on is how you maintain a regular Super Bowl contender while paying an elite QB. I don't remember an off-season where we look at our o-line and say "we're good" so we got that going for us. We can really improve this defensive line through the draft even if we don't sign an elite pass rusher opposite Groot. The main complaint and a valid one is we have too many B players and hardly any A players besides Josh Allen. Let's just wait and see what this roster looks like in August before freaking out when we don't catch any of these big fish via trade.

I think you would've been surprised at how much Rousseau would've gotten in the open market. I'm surprised tbh he re-signed here for that low of a contract relative to the importance of the position.

The Bears gave Montez Sweat 4 years $95m ($24.4m per year) a year and a half ago and he never eclipsed double digit sacks in his career. I was pissed at the time because I thought he effed up the market for us re-signing Rousseau. We just got a 25 year old Rousseau at $19m a year (factoring in the 5th year option) for five years. That's good business.
