McCaffrey was more of a dual threat prospect compared to Etienne. Plus, the Panthers haven't won jack with him and just gave him that big money second contract and may already be regretting it.
I get the thinking that Beane might feel more inclined to give away picks this draft given the impact Covid's had on scouting but he's about the last GM that would waste precious draft capital to jump up for a RB (a significantly devalued position) in the first round. He needs to hit on players in round 2 and 3 this year with all these big contracts he's already dished out (Milano, Williams, Dawkins, White) and is going to have to dish in the next couple of years (Allen, Edmunds (maybe), Diggs). We're too thin at CB, DE, and DT to do something crazy like trading up for a RB.
