  1. As has been discussed , BPA is an oversimplification and overused term. Player rankings on a teams board are often very close. The Bills have a lot of needs, but it still holds true that QBs, elite pass rushers, elite pass protectors and elite WRs go high in round one. I can’t say for sure that the Bills would take an OT over an elite DE, but picking at 9 they won’t have that problem. The elite pass rusher will certainly be gone and possibly a top OT as well.
  2. Again, it will depend on the exact draft spot. An RB in round one is usually a bad idea, even worse when you already have one. Spiller was a terrible pick for lots of reasons. At the time of the post, a top five pick looked very possible. That’s the problem with these early mocks. Now that the spot is known ( 9) the elite DL will be gone. An OT or even a WR now looks possible. The Bills DL is a rotation anyway and losing a key player, but no need to worry with them sitting at 9. They won’t go DL there.
  3. Way too early to make a determination one way or another. See what happens in FA, check out the combine etc. A trade down might be made, but as it’s been pointed out it requires a trade partner. Most teams consider all their options thoroughly, so why worry ?
  4. Minimum of ten wins plus a season sweep of NE to entertain any thoughts of a division title ( until Brady is gone)A WC berth would likely require a minimum of nine wins and a 3-3 division record at worst. That mean the Bills would probably have to go 4-2 vs the rest of the AFC to grab a spot. That’s the road map, more than any offensive / defensive ppg or any other stats really.
  5. I’d try to upgrade at RT, C, then G. Some may have to be retained out of necessity. Bodine seems a decent backup C / swing G. Mills is very average, but elite Tackles rarely hit free agency. Any good FA OL will take a massive overpayment to sign. That’s the reality of OL play in the NFL right now.
  6. I’d put more blame for the Bills ground game at the feet of the OL coach/ run game coordinator than an RB coach.
  7. No way the Bills trade White or Edmunds as part of any deal for Brown. Poyer or Wallace ? Maybe, but I think AJ Green is a more likely target if CIN is doing a rebuild and willing to listen. Green may not be AB, but he’s a great WR without the drama.
  8. Those are voted on/ determined by the AP, not the NFL.
  9. Nah, you never bad mouth those fired or soon to be fired in the media. It’s a bad look. Those who remain take the heat, and the necessary moves are made. You must differentiate between GM/Coachspeak and what’s really going on. The firings speak for themselves.
  10. Honestly I hated the pick on draft night. I thought Rosen was the safer pick and that’s what I wanted. Maybe bbfs at work there, but I had myself convinced. I’m a lot more optimistic on Allen now, especially seeing the difference before his injury and after. Prior to being hurt, he was scraping by on athleticism and looked like he probably shouldn’t be playing. After he returned it never appeared that way. I want to see some major attention to the offensive side of the ball this offseason and expect to see a big jump by Allen next year. More excited about their offensive prospects than I’ve been in a long time, largely due to Allen being the QB. That’s a big change from anything I envisioned on draft night.
  11. No. I don’t think Allen will ever pass for 4000 yards with the Bills. The fifteen rushing TDs might actually be attainable; he’ll be short of 1000 yds rushing in any season.
  12. Reduced practice time in the CBA changed this for a lot of teams. No time available for backup QBs to be practicing with teams. The P is a natural choice. It would seem the Bills issue is at P. Fix that, and they’ll fix the PK holder problem. Hauschka’s problems stemmed from the turnover at P combined with that cheap shot blindside hit he took vs Jets. He’ll be fine after the offseason.
  13. Have to echo your sentiment. It was obvious to me and anyone else who was paying attention. It seems like all they would talk about the last year or two. This year, they just didn’t talk about it or show it.
  14. Yup, he lacked the “ fire in the belly” to be great and admitted as such later. GMs and scouts need to be tuned in to these intangibles, because without them the measurables don’t matter as much.
  15. Plenty of white people make fine football players. They’re just doing things other than playing football, for whatever reason. You’re statement is akin to saying “if black people made better hockey players, there would be more of them” or take out the word hockey and replace it with “baseball”. Some sportswriters have actually decried the lack of black players in MLB and insist something must be done ! But why ? Who cares if more whites aren’t playing football, or more non-whites aren’t all that interested in baseball ? Quit the social engineering crap and just hire the one you think is best for the job without worrying about their appearance. Well, except for maybe Matt Patricia. That guy needs some work in the appearance department.
  16. It’ll be after the New Years holiday. Not McDs style to make changes so quickly.
  17. Apparently that doesn’t matter. It’s clear though that not enough Caucasian males are being recruited to play football. Something must be done about this!
  18. Now the NFL has BUF picking at 10. Not sure why
  19. ^ unless a player simply isn’t a scheme fit, this is pretty much how it works.
  20. Simms cannot control or hide his undying love for the Patriots. Boomer and Cowher May have been throwing out some hot takes, but I don’t think the Bills look like a disaster and actually outperformed the pundits predictions with rookie Allen at QB. Year 3 will be critical in determining Beane / McDs futures.
  21. These days , I don’t think 5 spots or less qualifies as a “ reach” in the classic sense.
  22. Given the offensive talent on the roster in McDs time as Bills HC, would anyone think an aggressive, push the ball down the field wide open game plan should be employed ? I’d guess that if it were, most games would be out of reach by the middle of the 2nd quarter. If the Bills go all out to give Allen some weapons and an improved Oline, then still run an ultra conservative gameplan, that should be questioned. The lack of talent probably dictates a conservative approach to stay in games. I’m not totally sold on McDermott, but his performance doesn’t seem to merit a firing here. Do comparisons with the Steelers , who’ve had Roethlisberger for Tomlin’s entire tenure really apply here ? This is a rebuild, not a takeover of a consistent winner and most successful teams in NFL history. I wasn’t sold on the whole tear down strategy, but I’m not yet convinced that it won’t work.
  23. In WC round it will be whoever would send the toughest matchup to NE in divisional round. That looks like it would be the Colts, as the Chargers/ Ravens winner would then travel to Foxboro. Sucks that if HOU wins their game KC gets the tougher opponent. As for the NFC, probably the Saints then PHL.
  24. Taking a Guard in the top ten is fine... IF there’s an Alan Faneca type in the draft. Most years there isn’t , and Nelson was hardly a secret. The middle of the Bills OL is very soft, but an OG isn’t in the cards at 9. OT Williams would fill a spot that’s been subpar for years.
  25. Nope, doesn’t hurt. It doesn’t make the offense Super Bowl caliber, either.
