Who Are You Rooting for the Rest of the Way?
Boatdrinks replied to BUFFALOKIE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In WC round it will be whoever would send the toughest matchup to NE in divisional round. That looks like it would be the Colts, as the Chargers/ Ravens winner would then travel to Foxboro. Sucks that if HOU wins their game KC gets the tougher opponent. As for the NFC, probably the Saints then PHL. -
Quenton Nelson - Indy OG ...#6 overall was worth it
Boatdrinks replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Taking a Guard in the top ten is fine... IF there’s an Alan Faneca type in the draft. Most years there isn’t , and Nelson was hardly a secret. The middle of the Bills OL is very soft, but an OG isn’t in the cards at 9. OT Williams would fill a spot that’s been subpar for years. -
End of Season Rank the rookie QB's

Nope, doesn’t hurt. It doesn’t make the offense Super Bowl caliber, either. -

Some cannot accept changes in the NFL game that are occurring today. -
Yes, it’s a terrible system that has greatly benefitted NewEngland* over the years. The East has been a joke with no other good QBs to compete against ,providing an easy path to a bye. Hopefully the Pats will get knocked out of it and football fans everywhere can rejoice!

2019 NFL Draft: Bills officially picking 9th
Boatdrinks replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the players grade out closely , other factors such as need come in. If a player remains on the board that you have graded much higher than the others you take him. Maybe even move up. Unless that player is an RB and it’s the first round. I’ve never loved the term BPA as it’s usually a massive oversimplification. -

Mayfield Jackson Darnold Alllen Rosen same ranking for now and long term based on what they have around them, Coaching/ FO and skill set. -
While plays will still have to be made from the pocket, the NFL game is changing . It’s becoming more college like. QBs are now a “ protected class”. The added weapon of mobility will remain a pert of these QBs games. Can’t just look at the past without acknowledging the rules changes. Unlike RG 3, who was too slightly built and actually ran too much these guys can make the required plays from the pocket. Fans just have to adjust to watching the game differently because those involved in the game are coaching/ playing it differently to suit the times.

Looking like we will be number 1 in D
Boatdrinks replied to Hebert19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nah, there are many ways to measure defense. Preventing the opponent from moving the ball is also their job. The NFL ranks offenses by yardage too. It’s just one metric, and obviously the most important thing in the game is scoring points while preventing your opponent from doing so. If a defense gave up a lot of yardage , but didn’t yield a lot of points it still would be a cause for concern. Are they just getting lucky? Is it penalties or turnovers or some other variable that isn’t sustainable? Conversely , if the defense gives up yardage grudgingly, why are they only average in scoring defense? Did they just get put in a lot of bad situations by the offense via turnovers or poor ST play? Are my defensive schemes not aggressive enough inside the red zone ? Both lead to questions, but I’d probably be more concerned about yielding a lot of yards and first downs. Why? It’s probably a tougher problem to solve than simply red zone defense. The points might have more to do with factors other than the actual defense. -
They could. Great thing is, they’ve already proven they can beat New England if need be. I sure hope it doesn’t come to that though. CHI has a great defense for sure, but I don’t trust Trubisky to take the Lombardi. Not yet, anyway.

New York Jets: HC Todd Bowles fired
Boatdrinks replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn’t mind moving on from Frazier, but this would be swapping one mannequin for another. Both do a great Dick Jauron impression on the sideline. -
Damn, the Eagles stayed the evil empire in LII. That qualifies them for demigod status, even though I wanted them to lose to HOU as it would relegate NE to the wildcard route. Once that happened though, better them than say, a Vikings team that wouldn’t stand a chance against NE should the unthinkable happen.
-
Okay, thank for the response. People used to say Jim Kelly talked like he had marbles in his mouth. That expression sounds just as dumb today as it did then.

So what ? The Bills didn’t back into the playoffs last year. They won their game and things fell into place. Anyone who said the Bills backed in last year was ( and is) wrong. Doesn’t fit the definition. I don’t recall anyone on the networks or ESPN, NFLN et al saying the Bills backed in last year. Yes, it’s largely because MIN couldn’t beat the Bills. If they won that game they’re in the playoffs. The Bears are a better team than the Vikings so I’d expect them to lose that game. But losing to the Bills in Josh Allen’s third game or whatever? They don’t belong in the playoffs this year.
-
Cool, but that’s not backing in. They had to win this week and last to have a chance. Minnesota didn’t get in because they couldn’t beat the Bills. If the Vikings lost to the Bears, but got in because PHL lost, that would fit the definition of backing in to the playoffs.

Boatdrinks replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. I wish he was remaining as the Jets HC. The unknown will probably be better than Bowles. -
Yep the Bears D is legit. Just stating today’s numbers because they weren’t part of the ones I posted. I think Cousins is an average QB that puts up some numbers but doesn’t win a whole lot. Others may disagree. I don’t think the Eagles backed into the playoffs. They won their last two games. Backing in would mean losing but getting in due to results of other games. They did what they needed to do to get in by winning.

McDaniels will be coaching the Browns if he leave NE after this season. -
About that. That’s through week 16 of course. Today’s offensive output was 13 points below their season average and the defense gave up 3 points above their average One is still a top unit. The other is now run of the mill.
-
Defense was first in points allowed last year and they slipped but only to 7th. Still top ten. Offense slipped from top ten (10 th )to16th. Middle of the pack. That’s exactly what Cousins is.
-
I’d have to agree with Tony Romo. If I don’t have Justin Tucker, I’m running a play and putting it in Mayfiled’s hands. I don’t think CLE kicking game has been stellar this year. Just a great play by Mosley screwed it up. Would have went for some pretty big yardage.
-
Interesting . I didn’t care much who made the playoffs between PIT and BAL, but I thought with a closer look they were good calls. The first one was probably too close to call, so had to stick with the call on the field. As much as I despise Landry, he caught that pass. Who actually puts marbles in their mouth? How do you know what that sounds like?

Why take a knee with over a minute left?
Boatdrinks replied to Rebel101's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why? Class. -
Wow , just 27 yards of Offense in half for Vikings. As others have said, Cousins is that QB who’s just good enough to get you beat. He’s kind of like a Stat Padford in DET. They probably should have just kept Keenum I don’t think Nagy would want to lose to MIN even with backups in there. He has to start thinking about next week at some point with key guys . Probably not until 3rd quarter and a bigger lead to sit on .

I think that was correct at the end of ATL game, but has changed again.
