  1. I was fortunate to miss the Matz debacle this evening. Don't remember the Bobby Jones outing off the top of my head. I was at Shea to witness David Cone's debut as a starter. Pretty bad but nothing like tonight. https://www.nytimes.com/1987/04/28/sports/cone-is-rocked-mets-don-t-help.html
  2. LOL on the crickets I honestly don't keep up to date on the minor league team and the prospects. I have no idea where Conlon is these days. I think McNeil is solidifying his spot on the Major League roster as our Ben Zobrist type. He'll play a good deal but not have a set position. But how they manage the return of Frazier and then Lowrie will probably cause some agita...especially if they don't play well.
  3. Ah-oooo! Werewolves of London!
  4. I read last night that it was Ovechkin's first fight since 2010. I also wonder whether there's a side story since they're both Russian.
  5. I'm no expert on stadium seating, but I'd be wary of the 100's . A lot of times the crowd stands up during the game and that could be more problematic in the 100's for your son since the viewing angle is lower. I took my kids two years ago and someone on the board suggested the first 10 rows in the 300's between the 20 yard lines. That worked out great for me. But you wouldn't be in a family or alcohol free section. We did have a guy behind us who was over-served but the stadium security guy was on top of him before it became an issue.
  6. How are we gonna keep McNeil in the lineup? Play of the game at third. If he doesn't make that play Familia's outing looks even worse than it was - and there was nothing good to say about it to begin with.
  7. Butterflies and zebras And moonbeams and fairy tales That's all she ever thinks about Riding with the wind
  8. Yup, it was Hunt. A cool Ron Hunt story: https://nypost.com/2019/02/01/the-end-of-baseballs-most-unlikely-friendship/
  9. The guys that stuck out for me were Bob Bailey and Ron Fairly. And then a bit later Steve Rogers. I'm pretty light on ballparks visited, I think only 7.
  10. The stadium announcer was great. I'd listen to him on TV announcing the batters whenever the Mets played up in Montreal. I was disappointed when the Expos traded away Boccabella. First game I ever went to was Mets-Expos at Shea in 1971. Carl Morton pitched for the Expos and hit a HR.
  11. I tell ya, life ain't easy for a boy named "Sue"
  12. Everybody thinksThat everybody knowsAbout everybody elseNobody knowsAnything about themselvesCause they're all worried about everybody else
  13. I had no idea Sewald was back up. Not good.
  14. Do you remember John Boccabella? One of my early baseball memories is him getting announced at Jarry Park. It was epic.
  15. I'm all for bashing the ESPN Sunday night broadcasts, but tonight they had Henry Aaron in the booth. I missed all but the end when he was asked about the toughest pitcher he faced. Stan Williams. I know the name, had the baseball card but other than that he's a nobody to me. Wish I'd heard more from Hammerin' Hank tonight.
  16. And I raise my head and stare Into the eyes of a stranger I've always known that the mirror never lies
  17. It's pretty much the nicest day of the year and I have a noon game. Not too happy about that, kind of hard to plant myself on the couch from noon to 3 when I could be outside.
  18. You don't tug on Superman's cape You don't spit into the wind You don't pull the mask off that old Lone Ranger And you don't mess around with Jim
  19. Lower in the article is a mention of Darling's medical leave. He's had a rough few weeks. Hope he's OK.
  20. Motorhead, remember me now Motorhead, alright
  21. The silver lining is we only had to watch Vargas get one out. Plus he got Mickey ejected. Things are looking up for the rest of the night.
  22. Hey teachers, leave those kids alone
  23. First inning it looked like he was back to being too scared to throw a strike. Got out of the inning and I shifted to hockey. Nice to see he made it through 6, I'll take that as a positive.
  24. It's been a mess. A greedy owner more interested in development than anything else, local politicians unable to strike a reasonable deal and at the heart of the problem a horrendous iron clad contract that the Islanders signed with the management company for the Nassau Coliseum around 30 years ago that tied the hands of the owner and politicians for years. In my perfect world, cooler heads would prevail and the NHL would relax the arena size restrictions and let the Isles continue to play at the Coliseum. I went to a Sunday afternoon game this year. It was a sell out and the atmosphere was electric.
