Ben Solak (The Ringer) Analysis of Josh's Decisions this Year
Dr.Sack replied to JohnRVA's topic in The Stadium Wall
The argument being made is Allen is playing good, but needs to be consistently excellent all 4 qtrs of game for the Bills to win games. That’s a tough ask. QBs get sacked, hurried and turnovers happen. -

McDermott wont let this team quit. -
Allen should throw him 15 balls a game.

If we win the toss we need to take the ball and go score first with our defense in shambles.

Josh definitely is effective against Cover 2 when he steps up in the pocket and runs for 1st downs until the defense has to put a spy on him, which ups up the gap between the safeties and the singular linebacker in pass coverage. That should be a win every time with Kincaid similar to how Kelce owned Milano for the TD game winner in the 13 seconds game. -

This play made me scream. #1 I felt it vindicated Burrow is not Allen. #2 it was awesome to see a Bill not fail in a pivotal moment.

Are people really that unhappy with our 4-2 Bills?

I don’t f’ing know how this game plays out. If the team quits on McDermott it would be a damn shame. They likely are playing for their jobs. If they get rolled they quit and that means McDermott has some house cleaning to do. -
Firing McD would set this franchise back 5 years. The leadership void would be huge. Geeks like McDaniel are dimes a dozen. Few men can lead others and get them to run through brick walls. McDermott teams don’t quit and are hard to beat. I appreciate the toughness of his teams.

Josh needs to recognize his arm limitations. No other QB tries the honey hole cover 2 beater to Davis. It’s the definition of insanity. Just limit those unforced picks and find the 2nd read, and on occasion be consistent in climbing the pocket with down field eye vision, too often we see Josh bail out to the right, or become a scrambler up the middle and drop his eyes. -

McDermott in a down year may get this beat up Bills team to the playoffs with street players on defense. There’s no way McDermott should be forced out as coach. McDermott is 5-4 with a bottom ranked defense, a 2nd year OC, and a QB who leads the league in turnovers since entering. McDermott is a cool cat. We should appreciate what he has done for the franchise instead of dumping on him. -
The Bills defense is averaging .25 turnovers per game the last 4 games. What are chances they force a turnover? If not, I don’t see them winning without a turnover.

Allen can’t be coached because what coach has ever coached someone with his skill set?

Only bad teams punt.

How many QB hits did we get with 5 and 6 man pressure?
-
How certain are we that Dorsey isn’t calling the game plan based on McDermott’s input?

Things that help create turnovers: consistent pass rush, physicality, a lead, playmakers/timing.

The defense did a good job against the run, bludgeoned Burrows throwing finger, and mostly shut down Chase. What it failed to do, was in sending safeties and 6 man pressures account for the tight end blockers who simply chipped took a few steps forward and turned for wide open passes. Screens and lobs always defeat an overly aggressive defense. We did this against the Texans in the 2020 playoffs and we continually allow unaccounted for gains.
