  1. What is the downside please? Not to signing him, not to playing him, not to putting him on the playing roster, not to putting him on the practice squad. What is the downside to working him out please? If it increases your knowledge base at no cost (except the small amount of time somebody from the organization might have to spend watching him work out), it is a benefit to the Bills
  2. these waiver wire transactions remind me a lot of garage sales. The only difference between buyers and sellers is the sellers know they're just getting rid of useless items, the buyers won't know they're useless until after they have them sitting around the garage for a while
  3. the choice between Peterman and Allen clearly seems to be Allen, except that playing too soon, especially with this offensive (and it is offensive) line and receivers could ruin him. We've been looking for a franchise QB since Kelly. I wonder if people think Kelly would have been ruined playing behind this line and with these receivers his rookie year. Not his first year with the Bills, but his first year after college. If you think Kelly would have survived, and you're looking for a Kelly replacement, I say start Allen
  4. You're right, I'm not saying he was a bum. I'm just concerned with the possibility of a player losing some of his fire after earning generational wealth.
  5. And you'd have to hope that Mack wouldn't mentally retire. I don't know if he would or would not, but despite everyone's opinions, NOBODY knows the answer to that question. Now that's the case with almost every player in the league (I can't see KW mentally retiring), but do you want to bet $100 million and some high draft choices on it?
  6. according to reports, yeah. If true, it's a surprise to me. Wouldn't be the first time I was wrong
  7. Maybe, or maybe until he's unhappy about something. I don't know the man, don't know how he approaches things. I only know what his reported actions are, and what McBeane sez they look for in a player. Doesn't seem to be a match
  8. Beane and McDermott have stressed that they want team first guys. High character locker room leaders that absolutely love the game. I can't see where a guy not reporting and holding out while under contract fits that profile. This is not a comment on whether he should be holding out, what his value is, if he is underpaid, etc., just doesn't seem to be a McBeane kind of guy.
  9. Who knows the abilities of these 2 guys better than Leslie Frazier and the Bills defensive players. Wonder who they would prefer not to play against. Is this one of the inputs McDermott uses to come to a decision as to starter?
  10. If you're the Ravens def. co-ordinator, would you rather face Josh or Nate?
  11. I don't know who will or should be named starter for the opener, but I guarantee McDermott won't announce his decision one second earlier than he has to. Most teams in the league know today which QB their defense will be facing in the opener. Ravens will not know until saturday or sunday of opening week.
  12. because he's so fragile that other shortcomings on the team will damage him either physically, or psychologically
  13. well, to be fair, when we have them, we do fall in love with the blue chippers. Jim Kelly, Bruce, Thurman, Biscuit.
  14. I wonder how many of us would continue going into work everyday if we had won a $50 million lottery. What's really amazing is how many players continue going all out, risking their physical and mental health, after signing one of today's multimillion dollar guaranteed contracts. I honestly don't know if it's something to be admired, or questioned.
  15. just saying the threads are similar, that's all. Not saying the Mario signing was horrible, just that when all was said and done, Mario didn't pan out the way everyone hoped. The enthusiasm, hopes and expectations on this site were sky-high, and ultimately were ,at least in my mind, unmet. If this whole Mack thing happens, I would welcome it and hope things go great. I'm really not comparing the 2 players, or predicting that the results will necessarily be the same. Just remarking on how everybody was going crazy before we signed Mario, and it reminds me of what's going on now in regard to Mack.
  16. I guess the Dolphin coach in 2016 'didn't play him right' either As I said, Mack could be great. (please read my words). Just said the Mario and Mack threads resembled each other. It's not whether I want him or not, it's that unbridled enthusiasm on this site does not always end as everyone thinks it will. PS-I'd probably want him, but realize McBeane knows more than I do. Que sera sera
  17. shoulda woulda coulda, yet the Bills ended up paying about 67 mill of the 100 mill , 50 mill guaranteed contract for 3 years work (and remember these are 2012 salary figures). I'm just saying, things happen. Mack, if it happens , could be great, but the threads then and now share a certain resemblance.
  18. I'm enjoying these 19 pages as much as the next guy, but it's starting to sound too much like the Mario Williams threads before we signed him.. And we all know how that ended up. I'm not trying to compare the two players, just comparing the enthusiasm around the possible signing of each. There's the saying be careful what you wish for
  19. I believe you're right. Why do you think that is? Is it due to the overwhelming importance of the position and that more time and effort is put into scouting the qbs, so pre-draft evaluation may be more accurate for that position than others?
  20. While I agree with your thoughts on Allen's personality traits, and his willingness to sign with offsets, it should be noted that he waited until after Mayfield also signed with offsets before he signed. Perhaps he wanted to see what mayfield did, perhaps mayfield's signing gave cover to Jimmy Sexton. In any event-good for Bills, bad for Jets. While I hate the expression, that's a win-win
  21. Just a question to those who know more about this than me. Darnold is holding out because he reportedly wants no offset language in his contract. Allen signed already, he accepted offset language in his contract. Obviously teams want offset provision, players (or agents) don't. Both Allen and Darnold have the same agent, Jimmy Sexton. Is this a case of the agent treating the two teams differently, or just Darnold being really stubborn?
