  1. fair enough, but if they don't value OL highly, we're screwed
  2. I haven't seen this addressed, and am curious as to what others think. I'm under the impression that while college to pro transition is difficult, it is most difficult for OL and WR. (QB aside, as that is a whole different animal). It seems to me that the Bills were most active in signing FA's this year in these two groups. Is it possible that they are willing to let other NFL teams be a training ground for their eventual WR's and OL, and they will concentrate their draft pix on position groups where the pix can make a much quicker contribution? I realize we had huge needs with these two groups, but perhaps draft strategy is affected by transition difficulty. Thoughts?
  3. I agree. Just commenting that despite this, Josh was worth a top 10 pick at this point, at least in my opinion.
  4. Agreed. But I suspect most would feel he was worth a top 10 pick at this point, if only on potential if nothing else. If your name is accurate, I think we could both agree JA is no Richie Lucas.
  5. I have no clue whether Metcalf will or won't succeed, but it seems your exact words could have very reasonably been used last year with Josh
  6. I wonder if you could do that with all the Bill's choices you ranked last draft. Where (what round) you ranked them, and where you would have ranked them last year if their 2018 Bills tape was their 2017 college tape. I know this might be some work for you, but I'd really like to know which of these guys, in your mind, over or under performed, based on your original rankings.
  7. Gunner, in as much as I really respect your knowledge and judgement, where would you put JA in last year's draft knowing what you know now?
  8. It's not a question of what Goodell wants. If it benefits the owners to not have Kraft in the club, he's out. If they want to keep him in the club, the penalty will be something that sounds really harsh (fine and suspension), but that really isn't, just pr
  9. FWIW- Kraft will face 3 penalties 1. personal- humiliation and blow (no pun) to reputation. This has already occurred and will be ongoing 2. legal- florida misdemeanor- probably just a fine and maybe something like paying for or establishing an outreach program educating about or fighting against human trafficking 3. NFL- this is the interesting one if Kraft has the support of the other owners- $1 million fine and one year suspension. This will make it look like the NFL is serious, but won't really cost anyone anything if the owners think Kraft is a jerk- he'll have to sell the team. This accomplishes 3 things. The other owners won't have to deal with him anymore, it will make it look like the NFL is really serious about this, and most importantly, a forced sale of this franchise will result in a HUGE purchase price which in turn will instantly (on paper at least) increase the value of every other owners team. That's what Kraft really has to worry about. (I have no idea of his standing with the other owners).
  10. EVERY draft choice is a pig in a poke. You NEVER know what you're getting. (Mike Williams). That's why 2 draft choices are better than one, and why trading down is almost always the right choice. Possible exception is trading up for a qb because in today's nfl, a good qb can be worth 3 or 4 good players at other positions. And a good qb on a rookie contract is worth so much more financially than than a good player on a rookie contract at any other position.
  11. how about a franchise QB is one that is good enough that you're not looking to draft a franchise QB?
  12. will McDermott cost us in a big game? The bad news-yes. The good news-maybe someday we will actually have a big game, and not have a season of 4 preseason games, 10 real games, and then 6 virtual preseason games where we run out the schedule seeing who could possibly contribute next year.
  13. Unfortunately, that would have been last year. That boat has sailed
  14. given that: 1. the bills are bad offensively no matter who the qb is 2. winning this game matters not at all, perhaps even is detrimental 3. if JA is not 100%, there is no reason to play him I think I'd like to see Peterman start, just for the entertainment value. Watching him play is fascinating, in a very perverse way. Watching Anderson or Barkley play would just be boring. Of course if JA is 100%, the game experience would be beneficial. Otherwise PETERMAN!
  15. Sorry, I have to disagree. McVay and Reid are playing chess, McDermott is playing go fish
  16. well yeah, but on the plus side there's no tape on him for the Pats to study, and if he doesn't work out, we might be able to sneak him on to the practice squad. Mobility and arm strength could be a problem.
  17. It originates in poker I believe, but applies here also. "If you don't know who the sucker is, it's you."
  18. He's a raw rookie. Saw some good things, saw some bad. Just what you'd expect in his first NFL action. Way too soon to make career projections. More important is the context of his performance. No running game, no O-line, no receivers, no defense (at least in first half). An interesting thought experiment-replace JA with Tom Brady yesterday. How does Brady do with that context? I assume better, but how much better?
  19. 1. our OL can't block 2. our tight ends are better receivers than our wideouts, can do more blocking than our wideouts 3. look for 2 and 3 TE sets Increased use of tight ends will help with both run game and passing game, increase JA's protection, and makes JAG Kerley superfluous
  20. wouldn't it be easier to just hire a retired QB to add to your staff as his personal mentor then, and pick-up any QB you wanted and not have to worry about whether that QB can play AND mentor Allen? (assuming that the current coaching staff wouldn't be able or have the time to do the above?)
  21. ok, but exactly what can they provide as mentors. This isn't a rhetorical or argumentative question. I'd really like to know
  22. I keep seeing this on numerous threads. Why does Allen need a journeyman vet to mentor him? At best, that's all the Bills would ever be able to have as a #2. What does a career back-up have to contribute to Allen? Allen currently has a head coach, an OC, and a QB coach to guide and assist and teach him. What exactly does a vet journeyman QB bring to the table?
  23. actually, at least according to the article, it is a little complicated, and they seem to have the data to back their conclusions. Not only do the high priced signings tend not to perform as well over the next three years as the past three, but their teams performance tends to decline as well. To maximize results, it seems that money is better spent on depth. even if you have cap space and a QB on a rookie deal
  24. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-rams-and-bears-spent-big-on-non-quarterbacks-will-they-regret-it/ This is an article that I think is worthwhile for all our arm-chair GMs. I'd invite any thoughts
