  1. Unfortunately, that would have been last year. That boat has sailed
  2. given that: 1. the bills are bad offensively no matter who the qb is 2. winning this game matters not at all, perhaps even is detrimental 3. if JA is not 100%, there is no reason to play him I think I'd like to see Peterman start, just for the entertainment value. Watching him play is fascinating, in a very perverse way. Watching Anderson or Barkley play would just be boring. Of course if JA is 100%, the game experience would be beneficial. Otherwise PETERMAN!
  3. Sorry, I have to disagree. McVay and Reid are playing chess, McDermott is playing go fish
  4. well yeah, but on the plus side there's no tape on him for the Pats to study, and if he doesn't work out, we might be able to sneak him on to the practice squad. Mobility and arm strength could be a problem.
  5. It originates in poker I believe, but applies here also. "If you don't know who the sucker is, it's you."
  6. He's a raw rookie. Saw some good things, saw some bad. Just what you'd expect in his first NFL action. Way too soon to make career projections. More important is the context of his performance. No running game, no O-line, no receivers, no defense (at least in first half). An interesting thought experiment-replace JA with Tom Brady yesterday. How does Brady do with that context? I assume better, but how much better?
  7. 1. our OL can't block 2. our tight ends are better receivers than our wideouts, can do more blocking than our wideouts 3. look for 2 and 3 TE sets Increased use of tight ends will help with both run game and passing game, increase JA's protection, and makes JAG Kerley superfluous
  8. wouldn't it be easier to just hire a retired QB to add to your staff as his personal mentor then, and pick-up any QB you wanted and not have to worry about whether that QB can play AND mentor Allen? (assuming that the current coaching staff wouldn't be able or have the time to do the above?)
  9. ok, but exactly what can they provide as mentors. This isn't a rhetorical or argumentative question. I'd really like to know
  10. I keep seeing this on numerous threads. Why does Allen need a journeyman vet to mentor him? At best, that's all the Bills would ever be able to have as a #2. What does a career back-up have to contribute to Allen? Allen currently has a head coach, an OC, and a QB coach to guide and assist and teach him. What exactly does a vet journeyman QB bring to the table?
  11. actually, at least according to the article, it is a little complicated, and they seem to have the data to back their conclusions. Not only do the high priced signings tend not to perform as well over the next three years as the past three, but their teams performance tends to decline as well. To maximize results, it seems that money is better spent on depth. even if you have cap space and a QB on a rookie deal
  12. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-rams-and-bears-spent-big-on-non-quarterbacks-will-they-regret-it/ This is an article that I think is worthwhile for all our arm-chair GMs. I'd invite any thoughts
  13. What is the downside please? Not to signing him, not to playing him, not to putting him on the playing roster, not to putting him on the practice squad. What is the downside to working him out please? If it increases your knowledge base at no cost (except the small amount of time somebody from the organization might have to spend watching him work out), it is a benefit to the Bills
  14. these waiver wire transactions remind me a lot of garage sales. The only difference between buyers and sellers is the sellers know they're just getting rid of useless items, the buyers won't know they're useless until after they have them sitting around the garage for a while
  15. the choice between Peterman and Allen clearly seems to be Allen, except that playing too soon, especially with this offensive (and it is offensive) line and receivers could ruin him. We've been looking for a franchise QB since Kelly. I wonder if people think Kelly would have been ruined playing behind this line and with these receivers his rookie year. Not his first year with the Bills, but his first year after college. If you think Kelly would have survived, and you're looking for a Kelly replacement, I say start Allen
  16. You're right, I'm not saying he was a bum. I'm just concerned with the possibility of a player losing some of his fire after earning generational wealth.
  17. and apparently also misused by the Dolphin coaches on his next stop after here
  18. And you'd have to hope that Mack wouldn't mentally retire. I don't know if he would or would not, but despite everyone's opinions, NOBODY knows the answer to that question. Now that's the case with almost every player in the league (I can't see KW mentally retiring), but do you want to bet $100 million and some high draft choices on it?
  19. according to reports, yeah. If true, it's a surprise to me. Wouldn't be the first time I was wrong
  20. Maybe, or maybe until he's unhappy about something. I don't know the man, don't know how he approaches things. I only know what his reported actions are, and what McBeane sez they look for in a player. Doesn't seem to be a match
  21. Beane and McDermott have stressed that they want team first guys. High character locker room leaders that absolutely love the game. I can't see where a guy not reporting and holding out while under contract fits that profile. This is not a comment on whether he should be holding out, what his value is, if he is underpaid, etc., just doesn't seem to be a McBeane kind of guy.
  22. Who knows the abilities of these 2 guys better than Leslie Frazier and the Bills defensive players. Wonder who they would prefer not to play against. Is this one of the inputs McDermott uses to come to a decision as to starter?
  23. If you're the Ravens def. co-ordinator, would you rather face Josh or Nate?
  24. I don't know who will or should be named starter for the opener, but I guarantee McDermott won't announce his decision one second earlier than he has to. Most teams in the league know today which QB their defense will be facing in the opener. Ravens will not know until saturday or sunday of opening week.
  25. because he's so fragile that other shortcomings on the team will damage him either physically, or psychologically
