Phillip Rivers was the #10 QB in 2020. 12 games, Wentz was #26 with a completion % 57.4 percentage. 437 attempts, 2437 yards 16 TD, 15 INTs. Somebody will need to be a magician to get Wentz to look like a franchise QB again...

Bills-Rams being replayed now on NFLN
Nihilarian replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh man, that bullet Josh threw to Cole Beasley with 1:36 to go was an amazing throw. Singletary looked pretty darn good in this game 13 rush attempts for 71 yards a 5.5 YPC avg. 4 receptions for 50 yards. The line with Williams, Ford, Dawkins, Winters, Morse. -
I wouldn't trade Josh Allen for any other NFL QB or the supposed generational rookie QB Trevor Lawrence! Josh is simply the perfect fit for Buffalo!

I'm not so certain this is all Josh, as in 2018 Daboll had him throwing more deep passes over any other team in his first season. This, with one of the very worst offensive lines in the league. At that point I kinda doubt Josh is changing the plays on his own. 2019 the Bills suddenly didn't throw deep that often and had little success when they did throw deep. While Allen was noted for being in a pro style vertical offense at Wyoming. My take is that Allen mostly throws the play that's been called. In some games the runs simply weren't being called very often and neither were passes to Cole Beasley, who looks to be as good as getting open as Diggs. Against the Ravens in that divisional round the Bills didn't run but nine times to the RB's and Cole Beasley had two targets, no catches. Gabe Davis had four targets and no catches. Meanwhile both Brown and Diggs saw eleven targets each. I get the impression that this OC has his offensive game plan set up to call passes deeper than ten-twenty yards and work that mid to deep passing game. The run game and short passing game are something the Bills have in their play book but simply don't work on very much. In that Ravens game Josh Allen threw 31 of 37 passes under 20 yards. Against the Chiefs 43 of 48 passes were under 20 yards. JMO

This! Along with the Bills fans attempting to diminish what the greatest NFL QB of all time can do to a team. The man demands excellence from his teammates and tells straight out them if they aren't doing their job. Seven rings! Ole Tom is about as competitive as it gets... "The image of the 43-year-old franchise quarterback mixing it up with a much younger defensive star had an effect on both teams. After the game, Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans said the exchange fired up his team. "I don't know what it does for him, but for the guys around us, we love that *****," Evans told reporters, via NFL Network's James Palmer. "We love when he gets fiery and competitive. There's a lot of guys like that on this team, so when he does it he has a lot of guys to back him up." https://www.businessinsider.in/sports/news/tom-brady-fired-up-his-team-and-surprised-the-chiefs-by-getting-into-a-heated-exchange-with-chiefs-safety-tyrann-mathieu/articleshow/80744270.cms The Tampa bay defense was dominant* alright...except they didn't score 4 TDs and a FG. Brady threw for three TDs. Yeah, I still hate the guy as a NE Patriot. Yet, admire him for what he has accomplished.

Comparing the Super Bowl to the AFC Championship Game
Nihilarian replied to Arm of Harm's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
According to NFL networks analyst Bucky Brooks, who is an ex Buffalo Bill and an ex NFL scout. He stated that the Bills and Bucs ran nearly the exact same defense against the Chiefs only the Bucs had the players to pull it off. A confluence of things also helped the Bucs, KC lost their starting LT in the AFC Champ game. Once the Bucs got a big lead they were able to tee off with their pass rush and not worry about the run. Mahomes was injured as he clearly couldn't move around as well as he did in some past games. AND, Travis Kelce did have his way, 10 receptions for 133 yards on 15 targets. When the Chiefs did ran the ball they did well and simply didn't run often enough. While they kept asking their injured QB with a suspect O line to carry the game. KC RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire, 9 rushes for 64 yards a 7.1 YPC AVG. The Bucs were in a constant pass defensive scheme and daring the Chiefs to run! KC just kept attempting to pass (sound familiar?).After watching the Green Bay NFC Championship game you would think that the Chiefs would run more...even against that #1 against the run Bucs defense. Still, this same defense managed to have strong performances against the Packers and Saints. Dropping Rodgers 4x, and while the Bucs defense normally blitzed 39% of a game most of the season, the Bucs only sent more than four rushers five times the entire game. The Bucs were able to pressure Mahomes a record 29 times! 26 of 49 for 270 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTs. 69.3 passer rating. Ouch! Nearly 500 yards of running for his life in that game. The Bucs D line is very formidable and yet those LBers White, David, Barrett...Yowie! -
That third Bucs series they started by running it for 3, 6, 6 yards and that opened up the play action as the next six were passes to finally Gronk in the end zone. Being able to put the Chiefs back on their heals and made them respect the run was a big difference. Consequently as the Bucs got the lead and knew the Chiefs were forced to throw almost ever down they could pin their ears back and pass rush with that front four rather then worrying about the Chiefs run game. Now, in the second half the Bucs did work that run game more. Let's not forget that as good as that Bucs run games was, they couldn't punch it in the end zone on three runs.

Let's face it as there were a lot of non calls in that AFC Championship game. This was what even the announcers were saying about Bills receivers. That Chiefs defense came in as the #10 in points allowed, #16 in yards allowed. The Ravens had a better defense. The holding kept Diggs from getting open who was Josh's main target all season. Now switch to defense and think about how the Chiefs might have been holding Jerry Hughes and Co. Yes, Buffalo had their share of problems in the playoffs as they didn't look anywhere near as good on offense has they had all season. Both In the red zone and on 3rd downs. The game plans and play calls left much to be desired. The Bills offensive line looked pretty bad against the Chiefs too...dunno why.

I'm hearing on GMFB that the Chiefs are whining about all the penalties they had... All I can think of is how Tony Romo kept describing that "sticky defense" against Buffalo all game long. Which basically meant that the Chiefs DBs were holding, mugging Bills receivers all game long. (Save Cole Beasley who still got open) Watching the game the Chiefs DB's tried that against the Bucs and were called for it over and over that first quarter. Actually tripping a receiver and then both corners holding on the same play. The Chiefs offensive line holding like crazy too. Saw a KC O-linemen grab a Buc defender by the collar and drag him down with no penalty. On another play a chiefs player had his arm around a Buc play throat from behind, no call. The refs didn't change the outcome of the game. But let the KC players know that they needed to play by the rules...and they still were holding. Which leads me to believe that the Bills are really not that far off from beating the Chiefs.

Would the Bills have beaten the Bucs?
Nihilarian replied to QB Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd say no! After watching what the Bucs did to Aaron Rodgers and the 13-3 Green bay Packers. The Packers had a very balanced attack all season and in that NFC Championship game they ran 16 times for 67 yards. Meanwhile Rodgers 33 of 48 for 346, 3 TDs, 1 INT. While it would look like Rodgers had a good game he was sacked 5x and hurried, harassed all game. Tampa even lost ToP 34:37 to 25:23 and yards 275 to 314. Tampa even had more turnovers as Brady threw 3x INTs. It was the Bucs defense able to hold that Packers offense to field goals. QB Blane Gabbert now has a SB ring 🤣 -
Thoughts and prayers for Zerovoltz here

The Chiefs O linemen were nearly as good at holding as the Chiefs DB's. The refs called most of the flagrant instances. There were still a lot that didn't get called. I didn't think I would enjoy watching this game as much as I did. I thoroughly enjoyed the game and even watched Brady hold the trophy...which he passed off to his kids. One more SB win, one more ring, one more MVP. Belicheat This game just shows that it was way more Tom Brady over Bill Belicheat! -
While the injury to the QB could account for that slump in numbers after the Raiders game. Week 5 Titans, 6 Chiefs, 7 Jets, 8 Patriots. What the heck happened in the playoffs? A close win over the Colts and yet the Colts won ToP and yardage 34:16 to 25:43, 472 yards to 397. Allen the leading rusher in this game with 11 carries. Against the Ravens it was the Buffalo defense that took charge and that pick six was a 14 point differential. The Bills offense only scored 10 points and again Buffalo lost ToP and yards by 35:33, 25:77. 340 yards to 220. 38-24 drubbing by the Chiefs and the wheels came off. Buffalo even had a 9 point lead after the first quarter. The Buffalo defense fell on their face and so did part of the offense. Josh tried to carry the game being the leading rusher and passer 28 of 48 for 287, 2 TDs, 1 INT. The Chiefs showed all the flaws on this Buffalo team that need correcting. Great season, tough ending.

You know what I heard about Kordell Stewart...
Nihilarian replied to BillsShredder83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All I can say is, it must have been so very difficult to be something other than a white QB at that time. Good for him as he stood up for what he wanted to do. I recall that time in the NFL and never heard any rumor like that about him. Not surprised that someone started something like that though. As for Switzer, inherited a great team built by Jimmy Johnson...won a SB and fell on his face. Even Gailey took the Cowboys to the playoffs for two seasons with Aikman at QB. Dallas, GM Jerry Jones still believes he is the one that built that Cowboys dynasty. They haven't won a playoff game since 1995.
