Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise - Once Upon a Time Not really obscure, but underrated (IMHO): The guitar harmonies are fantastic. Listen to the middle part where the piano comes in.

Liitle Help from the Gamblers Out There?
HopsGuy replied to plenzmd1's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I haven't seen one. Generally the odds-making services do not set lines when a Football Bowl Sub-division (formerly Division I-A) team plays a Football Championship Sub-division (Formerly Division I-AA) team. I would have loved to bet on Delaware against Maryland last week. -
ESPN Ranks Bills Fans #11 In NFL
HopsGuy replied to GhostsOfTheRockpile's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When it comes to tailgating, we move up the board quite a bit. Here's a blog rating the tailgating of all 32 teams. The Bills hit #3 (which is probably dead on) behind KC and Green Bay. Of course, poor Kenny has a new name (Jon?!?) WTF? -
Born in prison and raised by a foster grandmother. The guy overcame quite a bit. I loved it when he tore up the Fish last year.

If you're on the beach, Molly Darcy's at 1701 South Ocean in North Myrtle Beach is a decent sports bar. But if you're looking to be amongst fellow Bills fans, you're probably better off going with Ray's suggestion.

Dumbest Thing You've Ever Heard Someone Say.
HopsGuy replied to Steely Dan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Not to high-jack the thread, but your avatar sent chills down my spine. I worked at Brand Names in Olean when I was in high school. The manager probably said a few things that could make this thread, though. The guy couldn't spell anything to save his life, either. The memos he'd leave were high comedy. -
Diddy should have hedged like Southwest did. Playa actin' a fool.

"I'll buy these April 40 Calls on Bear Stearns. The NYC property is worth $20 alone." - Hops, March 14 2008 /should have bought a strangle -
Good job plenz! Also good to know you're only half crazy.

I liked the article, but I don't see the wondrous benefits of crafting Buffalo as some sort of Bohemian paradise. The part about fixing up the dilapidated houses for the underprivileged is great, but without good jobs Buffalo will run no shortage of underprivileged. Also, bicycles lack tailgates. How can you 'tailgate' without a tailgate? /pragmatism

It's pre-season for everyone, man. How about the ticket-takers and concessionaires at the Ralph? They only get one warm-up before it all counts.

Anyone else reminded of the scene in Clerks where Randall wonders how much the average "jizz-mopper" makes per hour? I'd post the quotes, but I think I've said enough. Badol's assessment made me laugh. Well done, sir. Bravo!

Chris Berman has become a caricature of himself

Cut the guy some slack. How many guys do you know that are this suave? -
Man, I miss Charley Steiner on "Sportscenter".
HopsGuy replied to buckeyemike's topic in Off the Wall Archives
A blog had the mention of Zach Braff in it. I almost wish he wins an Oscar someday, just so we can see that one again. A friend of mine won a charity bid to be in a SportsCenter commercial. He's in the background of one, but I can't find it. I'll have to check with him to see if it's up on YouTube. -
"Your ideas are intriguing and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter." - Homer Simpson The death of Paxson can be equated with the death of Steve Buscemi: Reservoir Dogs, Fargo, "The Sopranos", The Big Lebowski, etc. Well maybe not equated, but somewhat correlated.

Fastest time over the Peace Bridge. Bonus points if you're bringing a ballet dancer to the US.

Usain Bolt is on Performance enhancing Drugs
HopsGuy replied to stevestojan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
You're right with the math. The thing is that his first 40 yards are his slowest. Plus, because of Bolt's height, he doesn't get out of the blocks as fast as his competitors. He simply runs away from them. In the 200 he got out of the blocks so well that Michael Johnson knew immediately that his record was in danger. The guy is a freak. I really wish he hadn't let up in the 100. On the subject of 40 times, I remember a scout once saying something along the lines of "Donovan Bailey runs a 4.19 40 out of blocks, so no, I don't believe your boy runs a 4.3." -
Official game thread USA vs. Austrailia
HopsGuy replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in Off the Wall Archives
The Aussies were getting a bit chippy at the end of the game. Carlos Boozer had to give a hard foul in the lane on Matt Nielsen. The Aussie tried to stare him down, but that was a joke. I could almost hear Boozer saying, "Why don't you go buy yourself a chin?" Here's a picture (Nielsen is on the right). The game on now is Argentina vs. Greece. The soccer mentality is showing through as these guys are flopping all over the place. When they do get around to playing basketball, it's not bad. Either team could probably stay within 20 of the US with some helpful officiating. -
This guy, a career .240 hitter, would like you guys to know that he's hitting that.

We can all swim off the transom of macdaddy's new boat. Here's a column a guy wrote about whom he thinks is the greatest Olympian. I hope it is tongue-in-cheek.

I really liked 'Pulp Fiction' and 'Reservoir Dogs'. He wrote the screenplay for 'True Romance', too. Plus there was the great cameo in 'Sleep With Me'. 'From Dusk 'Til Dawn' wasn't horrible, but probably not for everyone. Same with 'Kill Bill 1 & 2'. Not a bad body of work.

Check me if I'm wrong here Sandy, but doesn't the basic athletic scholarship include room & board? Now you can argue that if he's living in an off-campus apartment the NCAA should allow for a housing stipend, but they don't. So, the kid should pay the rent or face getting evicted. On a related note... these kids aren't allowed to get jobs, right? But isn't there a way around this? I went to a co-op school (Drexel) and I HAD to get a job related to my field to graduate. Other big schools have the same program (Northeastern, Cincinnati, RIT, etc.). My brother-in-law had a full scholarship for soccer and still was required to get a co-op job in his field. I wonder why schools don't do this and set the kids up with cush jobs working for boosters? Oh I know, the NCAA must maintain the illusion that these are student athletes. Here's my solution to the problem of these schools using kids to generate revenue without really educating them: Your scholarship is good for 8 years. If you haven't graduated during your eligible time (the first 4 years), you can have up to 4 more years to gain your bachelor's degree. If you have attained your bachelor's in the first 4 years (5 for red-shirts), you get another 4 years to get your master's. It's really the least they can do, right?

Cris Collinsworth deserves a mention for absolutely carrying Bryant Gumbel on the NFL Network broadcasts.
-
Probably because of this. On the surface that seems a bit more complicated. But not really.

You're probably right. I think Dennis Miller once said that the only time you're ever 'pronounced' anything is "Man and Wife" & "Dead on Arrival". Take from that what you will. Anyway, he's in Xenu's hands now.
