20 Years of QBs and 300 yard Games
Billsfan1972 replied to Mango's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed and say it over & over, that we need to see this Offense play for 4 quarters. The OC I think is terrible, the overall coaching philosophy & the play between the 20's & no mistakes football has gone the way of the dodo...... I want to see what the Bills have in Allen & have no confidence that this staff is doing the job. -
Have we seen the Bills play a single game with 4 quarters of good offensive football since he's been here?

And the Bills do it without too much success...... And please don't point to the 5-2 record. This is about 300 yard games. -

No it isn't, see posts above. NO, KC, GB..... MEH.... 17-14 is the way to go...... Biulls won too 14-7 so there, it does work......? -

I did that already & showed the details but it is beyond Billsfan1959's ability to grasp those stats & I also broke down winning & losing by games decided by 7 points or less. -

I appreciate a fair post. We can debate poor ints, bad sacks & fumbles too, but then we'd get bogged down. There also too was that coaching adage that said Three Things Can Happen When You Pass and Two of Them Are Bad, which today is really just scoffed at (though not sure that McD may not agree with it)... As for throwing for over 300 & losing, I too don't disagree to a point. We have so many on here who believe "The Process" and seem okay with losing, however building for the future & this 5 year plan..... If that is the case, to me having the QB in place is the most important facet & the quicker the Bills know whether it is Allen (or not) means to me seeing him throw for 300+, play great offense for 4 quarters & if that means losing 38-35, that may be the best thing to happen to the Bills. Again you can believe that every game can be won 17-13 and be defense first, but I can'tg stand those games & that hjas been the Bills mantra for the past 2.5 seasons & I don't particularly like it. -

No they'll tell you Brady threw for 505 & lost to the Eagles..... They're too smart to debate with.....? -

And in 2019 outside Buffalo, the only teams without a 300 yard passer are Pittsburgh (on their 3rd or 4th qb) & Miami..... Great company.....? -

I pointed out the record 37-33 & the one tie (where both threw for 300).... I then further broke it down. I will again argue that when both throw for 300 and decided by less then a touchdown one can not blame the losing QB can they? -

I'll wave the white flag because you have proved yourself incapable of reading a post or logical thinking. I have stated over & over that I want to see the offense play 4 quarters of offense (not just the 4th). I have stated over and over that I do like Allen, think he will be a very good player & blame most of the offensive shortcomings on the coaching staff and philosophy, but won't be sure until I see that 300 yard game, multiple games where he plays well for 4 quarters and see games where we consistently score high 20's-30's. I'd love to win a shootout. Brady was not the anointed one back then, was a 6th round pick thrown in only because of a season ending injury and was only a game manager. By season 2 he was the bonafied starter and had 3 300 yard games & 28 TDs vs. 14 ints..... -

Riddle me this..... Name 1 who hasn't thrown for 300 yards?? I'll answer it for you..... There has not been a single one...... -

Billsfan1959 just refuses to evaluate or see anything meaningful about 300 yard games. Sure he thinks Rodgers, Brees, Brady & Mahomes.... only throw to pad #'s too..... Now to your last point.... If Allen had thrown for 300 yards in many of their wins, the Bills in all likelihood would not have needed to come back in the 4th..... And remember I'm a Allen supporter, think he has the ability and skills to be the franchise QB & have placed 70% (or more) blame on the OC, the overall coaching philosophy & the lack of offensive personnel. -

Read it again.... I broke down all the 300 yard games this year, how many resulted in games decided by a TD or less, where both threw for 300 and losing QB's throwing for 300 where the result was a close game & that means nothing? Let me guess to you the only meaningful stat was Matt Schaub throwing for 450 and the game was not close? You're a lost cause. -

And this defense is Elite & on par with that Baltimore Defense from what some were stating a few weeks ago. Yes it is a lost cause as i just broke down the stats to show that 300 yard games were thrown in many games decided by less then a TD (both ways) and still some people don't grasp that it is a stat that correlates to competitive games & wins almost always. These people seem to be completely mesmerized by McDermott's defensive & ball control mantra. -

So here is the 2019 to date records based on 300 yard passing games 37 W 33 L & 2 T (Week one Stafford & Murray). Now the interesting stat 14 of the losses were in games where the winning QB too threw for over 300 yards. Here is where some of you need a refresher course..... When both QB's throw for 300 yards, it means that they needed to score points and passing yards were important & thus loss was not really due to the team throwing for 300, but the other team throwing for over 300...... For example Week 1 bother Keenum & Wentz threw for over 300 in a 32-27 game. Yes Keenum lost, but throwing for 300 resulted in a close game..... The only tie had both Murray & Stafford over 300, without 300 one would have I bet lost the game. Of the 14 losses where both threw for 300, 9 were decided by less then a TD. Of the 23 300 yard passing game where only the winning QB threw for that amount, 10 won by less then a TD, which tells me 300 was very important to help win the game. Of the 19 losses where only the losing QB threw for 300. 13 lost by less then a TD..... Which says that throwing for over 300 kept them in the game and a game that was decided by less then one possession. So to say 300 (and yes I use this as an arbitrary # that has been used throughout the year as a measure) isn't important is just wrong!!!!! -

Yep 1 takes the monkey off their back (Bills Coaching Staff & McD), from there I then want to see multiple games where we can rely on Allen to be the catalyst for the team and scoring in the high 20's-30;'s......, -

Yes my vote is coaching, game plan & the overall coaching philosophy is stunting him and it is taking longer to figure out than it should. 300 should be simple, but hasn't been for the Bills in 40 games (39 under McDermott). -

This is what people don't get..... This is a QB league. We have no idea what The Bills have in Allen due to the coaching, game planning & defense first mantra of this staff. Take a look at Chicago who has no idea whjat to do, because they have a tough schedule & no where near as dominant a D as they thought they had along with a QB they aren't sure is what they hoped for. Same in Jacksonville last year and many others. It is having a QB that can rally a team when needed that the Bills need to firgure out if they have. Not being able to throw for 300 & put up 30+ points is a real concern. And what happens next year when the Bills have a tougher schedule as the # 2 team in the division & SF, Seattle & LA Rams to start on the schedule? -

https://www.footballdb.com/stats/300-yard-passing.html See above for 2019 stats. Remove the losing QBs where both threw for over 300 and yes winning % is well over 60%..... That tells me that is a pretty good recipe for winning. Sure when Brady, Rodgers, Brees throw for 300 they too are pretty successful...... Next...... -

No when you don't look at the actual stats or details and throw insults it shows your lack of critical thinking. If Allen throws for 300 vs. The Eagles, one can reasonably expect the game is closer and maybe winnable. Just adjusting for when both QBs throw for 300, then the winning % is closer to 60%. The fact the Bills have gone 40 games without a 300 yard game is troubling. It shows a lack of understanding of where the league is evolving. Yes losing QBs throw for 300 plus but that also puts pressure on the winning team too to keep scoring. Very few 300 yard games where the qb did not score 20+ points. -

Very simply 300 yards means you are capable of bringing a team back or staying in a game. I hate when people bring up records and don't throw out when both QBs threw for 300 and one lost. People going on about 300 not meaning anything seems to miss the point that if Allen threw for 300 vs. the Eagles the Bills probably win. Same vs. NE..... There are too posts about how often the Bills have lost by 10+ and if you don't think throwing for 300 may have had an affect on the outcome, get your head out of the sand. And this is not about Allen. The Bills have gone 40 games, so plenty of blame to go around and this is on McDermott and the coaching staff -
I am a Bills fan from the day I started watching football. There was no father who was a fan telling me who to watch or teaching me the intricacies of the sport. I liked all sports & cheer for the local teams. I have no deep knowledge of the draft or know all the starters at each position or get very excited about trades or drafting on the offensive line or linebackers & DB's. I want them to perform and cheer for them. I will see who the Bills drafted, the scouting reports, rating draft picks by team (i.e. ABC....) & that's about the end of it for me. I do not & will repeat it play fantasy football. I do a weekly pool vs. the spread & that is it. I am however a fan of QB's, passing yards, WR's & having a productive exciting running game (not 3 yards & a cloud of dust). I want to see the offense score 35 points, throw for 300+ yards & move the ball up & down the field. The Kelly K-gun Bills were the best. The Buffalo Vs. SF No punt game was the best game I ever saw. So yes when I hear McDermott talk about "THE PROCESS" and "CHARACTER" players and intimate they want to grind out games, make few mistakes & his idea of a great win is 14-10 (and we do know that is his attitude) it rankles me. I am a fan and exciting is 35-31, not 17-14. And yes I think Allen can be that franchise QB, because if he is not, the Bills are back to square one. Some of you just want wins (of course we all do), but again I too want to be entertained, and frankly the Bills are not a fun team to watch. So tell me why you watch & what you want from the Bills.
-
No because it is pretty obvious how the board reacts whenever McClappity says something. I want to see exciting offensive football, wins and to be entertained. Going between 6-10 & 9-7 as the Bills do year after year, and this regime refusing to concentrate or have a high powered offense that can score in the high 20's-30's (heck have only scored over 20 is three games (28, 21 & 31 with a defensive TD) doesn't make for fun or any longterm winning football imo.
-
Woods, Goodwin & Watkins..... Yep a bad group of receivers..... Again lot's of teams have money, however coming to Buffalo is a tough sell for a marquee player..... 10 wins with this schedule should be a minimum when you should have 5 wins vs. tanking teams (Miami, Washington & NYJ), have won vs. NYG,, winless Cincy and have upcoming games vs. Denver & Pitt without a QB....... They then have dysfunctional Cleveland, Dalls, NE & Balt..... 10 should be the minimum & then a second place schedule in 2020......
