Pennington's comments at the NFL combine....
TPS replied to Webster Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's not really improving accuracy, his comment reflects the fact that lack of timing and familiarity with your receivers comes across as poor accuracy. EJ has the most comfort level with Woods, and my casual empiricism says that stats probably show a greater level of accuracy with Woods than any other receiver on the Bills. That said, EJ may or may not be an accurate passer, but CP is right that it takes time to develop the chemistry. I hope he gets a chance to prove himself, but I doubt it will happen. -
RAMBO: Why we dont need to sign Searcy
TPS replied to TallskiWallski83's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He will certainly compete with Duke for the position, and he's got a knack for the ball--not just the one game, he is Georgia's all-time INT leader (tied with someone). Duke might be a better "in the box" safety and Rambo better in deep protection. Rambo needs a larger body of work to really see what he's got. -
Study on Seahawks show 1st round picks are overrated...
TPS replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Biggest difference for the Bills is the Nix-Whaley era has been fairly successful at this, at least since 2011. Starters: Brown 3 Henderson 7 Woods 2 kiko 2 Bradham 4 Searcy 4 Decent depth: Goodwin 3 (I know, questionable on this one) Duke Williams 4 Brooks 4 Hairston 4 Kouandjio and Richardson could make the 2014 class a real success. I have high hopes for Cockrell too. -
That is good stuff. I think the following (really nice) quote relates to Ryan's comment on the Oline being his baby: "Maybe it's because I'm used to watching the NFC West all season and that division has made its reputation over the past couple seasons for being smash-mouth, hard-nosed and merciless in the trenches. The Niners' offensive line in particular is an enviable one, made up of mean human beings who enjoy, nay, relish hitting the people in front of them. There's a psychological edge that you can project when you have a group like this, and it can trickle down to your whole team."

Coaches Who May Be Joining Rex Ryan's Staff ???
TPS replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills will now be a combination of the Jets on D and the 49ers on O, as it's most likely that Roman will fill his staff from his former squad since they have almost all been released. -
NFL Network coverage of the Hiring of Rex

Because we have to wait almost 9 months until the next real game, so we have more time than most to re-hash these same thoughts... -

while he may not be a true nt, I think Charles is ready to break out. For his playing time, his stats were equivalent to Kyle Williams. -
Article: Bills who benefit most from Rex Ryan hire

roman had Vernon Davis to work with. -
Hughes is getting better and better, and he's got an attitude that fits the ryan tude. I'll be very surprised if they don't keep him.

Whose articles - if any - should be highlighted?
TPS replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know GG loves anything that Taibbi writes....hehehe..... Personally, it's more about the article title and blurb that describes it than the source. If it sounds interesting and it's something I haven't read about yet, then I'm going to check it out. -

He said they would have every scheme in the book, in the book, and they would use whatever D was best to attack the opposing team week-to-week. I like that. -
Re #2, at one point he got giddy and said the O-line is what he loves. That's where the aggressive in-your-face attitude will show.

He didn't promise a Super Bowl here. -
How tough is Rex? Told his realtor to find him a house where it snows the most!

Not so worried about the D after hearing Rex say they will use all formations, that he's not wedded to a specific D, rather what fits his players best. -
Rex&Roman power running game nightmare...looking forward to it! I guess we'll have to wait and see what they think of the talent, but I'm leaning more toward the idea that Whaley's crew is better at knowing talent than Marrone. I won't be surprised if they bring in people to compete, but CK and CR certainly fit the mold of big and nasty.

I'm not going to worry about the O-line anymore after listening to Rex...

MMQB: How to stop Tom Brady (w/Dennis Thurman)
TPS replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sounds a lot like Schwartz's scheme: stop the run, and let your front 4 get pressure. -
The Bills' O-line really regressed this year across the board, and their higher drafted rookies contributed almost nothing. However, when looking at their draft profiles, it seems that Kuoandjio and Richardson have exactly the type of talent that a Ryan/Roman offense is looking for--road graders. Here's the over view for Kuoandjio from NFL.com: BOTTOM LINE Massive, long-limbed, inconsistent, overhyped college left tackle whose sheer dimensions, raw tools and high ceiling are far more appealing than his snap-to-snap performance at this stage of his development. Has enough length and anchor strength to survive on the left side, though he will never be a dancing bear, and he projects more ideally as a bulldozing right tackle in a power scheme. Richardson is described similarly: BOTTOM LINE Massive road grader with enough mass to re-establish the line of scrimmage in the run game. Versatility to play right tackle adds to value, and he has the physical tools to compete readily in a man-blocking scheme if the game is kept simple. Has a bust factor. A couple of boom-bust possibilities with these two, but one is described as a "bulldozing right tackle" and the other as a "massive road grader." I'm not saying they shouldn't bring in more talent, but maybe with some good coaching the Bills already have the talent they need on the roster?? Henderson, Glenn, Wood, Richardson, Kuoandjio????

While I like the Ryan hire, I think you raise valid concerns. I think the personnel on D is more suited to Schwartz's scheme than the Ryan/Pettine scheme. I was really looking forward to what Schwartz could do in his second season with Kiko back. The Bills don't have a true nose tackle, and that's why they were so poor against the run under Pettine. It'll be interesting to see what they try to do. The one thing I'm excited about is they have to have a better O line coach... -
The Beast was hilarious. I recall reading or hearing that He and his buddy decided it was time to get out of Russia and I believe they sort of randomly selected Buffalo. it was clear he would go on to bigger things. hope he does a follow up, as it has the makings of a great story.
-
Yes, but they couldn't stop the run. They don't have the anchor in the middle. Dareus is not that guy either. The Schwartz D will be even better next year; they'd take a step back in Ryan's D. IMHO
-
Because the Bills don't have the players to run his 3-4 D.
-
If they keep Hughes and sign guys like Searcy, Wynn, Bryant, Easely, and Hogan, they aren't going to have a lot of cap space to go after someone like Iupati. Everyone else is possible.
-
This is the ideal scenario, especially since the Bills don't have the personnel in the front 7 to run Ryan's D. The one thing that I could see Ryan influence is the blitz packages.
