As expected, the Jags take TE Hurst, so the Viking go defense and add some youth to the back end. With the 62nd pick, the Vikings take Justin Reid, S, Stanford Cardinal. from NFl.com Overview Reid is what teams are looking for at the safety position in 2018. He's a plus size/speed prospect who has the athletic ability to help with man coverage and the instincts and ball skills for ball-hawking duties on the back end. Reid can get himself into some trouble when he's overly aggressive, but his positive plays far outweigh the negative. He has the talent to become an early starter and a good one. Reid's instincts and play traits should make him a safe selection with Pro Bowl potential down the road. ok folks, now is the time to make dinner or Go for a beer run, because @aristocrat and the Patriots are on the clock...

The Deep State War Heats Up

Hey DR, looks like Assad has been set up again. There's no way he uses CW when he's almost won the war. Right when Bolton steps in too... -
Man this kid has started out with bang. Besides the hot bat, he had a perfect game going through 6 yesterday. Left after 7 with a one-hit shut out going. The Angels are finally relevant gain.

Jets likely to release Hackenberg and Petty
TPS replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was beginning to wonder if the Jets were planning on employing some new exotic offense that required multiple QBs... -
Good that 2 TEs went then, because the Vikings were getting a little excited that no TEs had gone yet about half-way into the second round. To have one of the top ones go right in front of them would've been really disappointing...
-
Oops! I was thinking of what they really had, and forgetting about the picks here.

That blows. I'd have guessed he would've been a favorite for Bills' #53.

Best bar in Buffalo to watch the draft

If this is what you're thinking, then stay home, get a 12-pack and order a pizza... -
I looked at several sites and compared the available OTs. In the end, I trust Mayock more than the others. Also, it's rare for a TE to come in and produce right away. The Vikings are looking to take it the final step this year, and improved line play will help that with Cousins at the helm.
-
While the sexy pick would be to take the first TE off the board, the Vikings instead do the right thing and invest in the trenches to protect their $84 million (guaranteed) man. With the 30th pick the Minnesota Vikings take Orlando Brown, OT, Oklahoma. Despite one of the slowest 40 times at the combine, the Vikings take the behemoth Brown to plug in at RT, which allows them to move Remmers to RG. Brown is also Mike Mayock's #2 rated OT. The Patsies are on the clock....

Find a cheaper hotel further up main, like the Hyatt or Holiday Inn, then take the free train down to 716. -
The Bucs trade seems to be a no-brainer for the Bills. The Bucs don't have an R3 pick, so they could pick up one of the Bills' R2 picks to move back.

Crap, things are moving fast. I may have to check out Virgil's rankings soon...

In Retrospect: How Did We Make Playoffs Last Year?
TPS replied to BuffaloBillyG's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't disagree with most of this, and I posted somewhere recently that I don't think they currently have anyone on the roster who could beat out Wright, which is an indictment of how bad the CB depth is currently. So, I really think they need to find someone, and not wait for the final 4 rounds--especially since I believe it was the secondary that was the key to them making the playoffs. -

Ok, you forced me to look. They were 8-3 when he started. Of the 5 games he didn't start, and the 4 losses, he would've made a difference in the Cincinnati loss, mayyyybeeee against the Jets, but certainly not NE or NO. Had he started all 16, or if they had a competent backup, I think you could argue they would've at least won 10. Btw, that's why I think it's really important they draft a CB in R2 or 3. -

The secondary gets my vote. What was the record when Gaines started? -
I acted on my initial reaction which was to find EWoods' replacement. In retrospect, I think they would go DT here to get KW's replacement.

Again, I'm not claiming Obama was great, he was not. For comparison, growth in his second term was equivalent to the average under Bushjr--they were both meh at 2.1%. I'm on record here as saying the tax cut will stimulate the economy this year and most likely next but then the next recession will hit. So if you want to include all 4 years no matter the outcome, then I expect the performance over his term won't look so great. Since he's juiced the economy with tax cuts when unemployment is at 4.1%, then that should help wages grow faster, which will be the underlying cause of the Fed's rate hikes and recession. Overall, I don't expect the aggregate numbers will look so great after 4 years, but I'm sure people will be able to find some positives to point to as a "success." We'll see... Because the largest deficits under Obama occurred during the recession years; Trump is jacking up deficits when the economy is near the peak of an expansion. That is mainly a problem because the you will be entering the next recession with already large deficits which will make politicians loathe to respond accordingly.
-
You're an idiot...with apologies to D.C. can you find a statement in this thread by someone saying "Obama was more pro-business than trump"?
-
Look, I know it's hard to understand, but all I'm saying is I'm willing to bet that the Trump economy won't outperform the past 4 years based on the measure of jobs created in the entire economy. If trump's policies are so great, then it should show up for the entire economy, not just Elkhart. And without doing a little research, I would think RV sales would be trending up for several years as baby boomers retire--not simply the past year. And what do you know... https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2016/12/rv-indicator/511787/

I'm tempted to quote Henny Youngman here.... -
Yes, that's what I'm trying to get someone to do. Obama's economy was mediocre over the past 4 years, but I'm willing to wager, in the end, those Obama years will be better statistically (in jobs) than what the rose colored glasses-wearing trump supporters think his policies will do.
-
Certainly one can't compare Obama's first term, given the crisis, so I'd be willing to wager that there will be fewer jobs created during Trump's only term than Obama's second....unless you think there's a better definition of "better".....?
