Perhaps. No doubt that once looking at the film, Tyrod will wish he had attempted the throw earlier. But that is because he now knows what the outcome ended up being by waiting. But if anyone realistically puts themselves in Tyrod's shoes it is incredibly easy to see how the QB is thinking "Dude - just adjust your angle slightly and you are wide open for a gimme touchdown." I think that is why he hesitated. He waited for the easy "gimme" touchdown that never materialized because he forgot he is playing with rookies.
-
Once those two, Tyrod and Thomas, have enough time together, that type of play works and results in 6. This was a classic example of what happens when you have two guys who haven't played together enough. QB expects/wants the TE to run one angle, TE runs a shallower angle as if he doesn't realize where the first down marker even is nor does he notice the wide open field to his left. QB hesitates - play fails. Nick Oleary possibly scores there if it is him instead of Thomas.
-
Do you see where the first down marker is on that play? Thomas isn't even past the first down marker, where he should be. If he is dragging across past the first down marker, Tyrod makes the throw - or takes off running with it because there is more space between him and the defender. These are the things that happen when your receiving corps sucks. You should play QB. You must be good. Easy throw my ass.
-
At the time he wants Tyrod to throw the pass, Logan Thomas is covered and it is a very difficult pass to make. Tyrod wants Thomas to run to the corner instead of dragging to the sideline. If Thomas runs towards the wide open corner, he gets the separation he needs, Tyrod makes the pass and the Bills score 6. So the commentator is complaining about Tyrod not making a risky pass that is likely to go either incomplete or get picked off. If Tyrod makes the pass when this guy wants him to, and it goes incomplete, then the narrative would be "Tyrod should have held the ball another second and waited for Thomas to come open". Exactly what I saw.

The last couple games we saw Tyrod rolling out more, some naked bootlegs and such, which I think is a good thing. One thing I have noticed is that Tyrod is far more hesitant to take off running. I think that is a coaching thing simply based on the fact that in preseason we saw Dennison forcing Tyrod to stay in the pocket and throw the ball or take a sack. It seems they are discouraging him from taking off running. I don't like that on those naked bootlegs. I wish he would run them rather than short pass. If the deep ball isn't there, just run. When he is in the pocket, I want him to pass to a receiver or throw the ball away or hit a hole in front for whatever gain is available if the hole is there. But outside the pocket, I want Tyrod to run more often. Many times he is choosing a short pass - like less than 5 yards instead of running. I say it is Dennnison stopping him. In past years, he runs there. Let him use his talents so that the next team coming in has to worry about him running the ball. I also want the Bills to take many more shots deep down the field even if they don't complete them. It is much harder to defend against an offense when the QB can beat you either running or throwing deep. It becomes a mental challenge for a defense and forces mistakes from them. I recall that even with other coaches, the Bills were generally bad on offense in games where they didn't attempt many deep shots. And they were best in games where they did attempt them even if they didn't complete them. I don't think that is purely coincidence. -
QB's are generally rusty throwing to guys that they haven't been throwing to for at least (many months). They click better with guys who they have experience throwing to the most often. That is why you see backup QB's coming into games and throwing to backup receivers more often than expected. It is because they are throwing to the guys they have the most experience, practice, chemistry with. Tyrod has none of those guys on this squad right now. He only had one - Charles Clay going into Cincy. Clay was productive before getting injured. Then Tyrod had none. Everyone can blame Tyrod for not getting it done anyway. He is the QB. It is his job to find a way to get the other guys the ball. And it is their job to catch them. This offense is going to suck for weeks to come yet though, unless the Bills find a way to fast forward that chemistry/trust building process with the new guys. And I don't see that happening. Mathews better heal fast. O'leary is going to get a lot of balls. Shady will get more thrown to him too - which might end up being a good thing. If the Bills don't try to stretch the field though, regardless of who the receivers are, this offense is destined to get steam rolled.

Sammy Watkins complaining about targets again

Its a one year deal. After this year, they will be lining up to get him most likely. - For the right price of course. -

Except the ground game wasn't vanilla last year or the year before. Part of the reason it was so effective last year (in my opinion) was due to the lack of predictability. -
How Bills Treat This Bye Week Will Show Their Cards
PolishDave replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I understand why they said they did it. It was a good move for 2018. But anyone paying attention knew it was very likely to be a very bad move for 2017. And you could say that ignoring all other receivers who were on the Bills because Tyrod had shown himself to be a far worse passer (his fault) when throwing to new receivers. So, if you wanted production out of the passing game you were taking a huge gamble dealing away his number one favorite receiver. You had to be hoping that the passing game would magically start clicking with Tyrod throwing to whoever. - That is like betting on something you already know is a losing bet beforehand. Beane is eating his own feces right now. Hope he likes the taste and aroma. -

PolishDave replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The "not resigning" here thing is irrelevant to the 2017 season because Watkins was already under contract to play this year. The Bills had Sammy at zero cost for the entire 2017 season. When you already paid the guy to play here, why not get his last and only healthy year out of him? If they were committed to winning this year, they should/would have kept him for his his last year (2017). Trading him was good for the 2018 season and very bad for the 2017 season so far. Beane is directly responsible for the Bills' current shitsandwich at receiver at this point. Half of the fan base (possibly more) predicted that Sammy Watkins would be the best receiver on the Bills - at the time the trade was made. That isn't hindsight. That is foresight. Something Beane clearly lacked in this situation. Now he is reaping what he has sown. Any fan can make a plausible case that the Bills could have won the games they lost this year so far if they had at least one really good receiver on the roster - or the guy who was already supposed to be here playing for big contract money. Now fans want Beane to go get somebody? Go fix what he broke. But don't spend any money doing it. -
Again, how can a switch to Peterman be any worse?
PolishDave replied to SaviorPeterman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You know who else scored high, even higher than Rogers? Fitzpatrick, Gabbert and Kaepernick. Even Johhny football scored well on it. It is not a reliable characteristic of a good quarterback. Not even close. You are so right about that. If the Bills don't figure out something with the passing attack, it is going to get a lot worse. -
10-10: Sean McDermott on the John Murphy Show
PolishDave replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
McDermott said he is proud of what they have accomplished so far. I wonder if that includes destroying a decent offense and fielding a steaming pile of ****. McDermott talks up the Bengals as a team that "has been in the playoffs in recent years". Yippie friggin skippie. Apparently a team that previously could only beat the Cleveland Browns is now a model of success in the NFL. -

Too good to pass up on? Where are the Bills at with wide receiver currently? So far Beane sucks at this wide receiver thing. I agree with you that they should make a move. I want them to make a move for a big - proven player. I just don't think that is going to happen. Very, very low odds. If anything, it will be a scrub (cheap as hell) player. -
SAL M: Bills WRs have no business being starters.
PolishDave replied to JM2009's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I remember. I recall people saying Zay Jones was an upgrade over Bob Woods too. There was that one poster that laid it out position by position and said the Bills were either the same level talent wise or better everywhere - that there were no downgrades. I know people are sick of hearing it - but - who doesn't think this receiving corps would be immensely better if Sam Watkins was still on it. The receiving corps debacle falls squarely on the shoulders of Mr. Beane. -

PolishDave replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why in the world would you expect them to make a move when they traded away Watkins before the regular season began? That told you right there exactly how much they cared about this season. Answer: They don't. They will be playing Logan Thomas as a wide out pretending that he is good enough to do that. Beane and McDermott don't value good receivers. They think they are a dime a dozen and irrelevant to building a winner. -
Next man up is not good enough
PolishDave replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Which existing player on the team are they going to trade for a receiver? Because they aren't spending any draft picks. Beane and McDermott don't really care about this year - at least not as much as they pretend to. The season will sink or swim with the existing roster and the possible addition of scrub level players. -

Marty, You partying with this guy next weekend? Seems like your style! You know you're jealous. That chick is hot. Only thing that dude did wrong was those lines should have been snorted off her ass. But you gotta be careful where you poke that straw when you're inhaling that hard. Might get a little extra sumpin sumpin. -
so we single cover AJ Green with no safety help?
PolishDave replied to Webster Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes. May as well send a linebacker though - because they obviously aren't very good at pass defense anyway. Dalton sucks under pressure. Many missed opportunities. Especially after the guy was gimpy at that one point. Should have hit him repeatedly with overwhelming pressure right after that and finished him. AJ was warming up on the bench. Bills could have destroyed them. -

I honestly think they are going to get better as a team. Much better. This year. This year still has huge potential. Rico is going through some growing pains. Bengals game was an embarrassment, but when you combined the crap weather with the crap receiving corps, you get a pretty bad game offensively. If the offense doesn't start producing much better and start clicking within a couple of games from here, I will grab one of Dennison's legs and help throw him under the bus.
