  1. It was just one game. Don't read too much into it. That said, I was glad to see Stanford lose. I'm sick as s*** of hearing about him and Stanford. Put them in the SEC West and then lets see how well they do.
  2. 1) OLB The need of a pass rusher is pretty obvious, and in this defense, the easiest way to generate that pass rush is from the OLB position. To this point, Merriman isn't getting it done. This is clearly their top need, IMO. 2) CB It helped that they drafted Aaron Williams last year, but the Bills' top 2 CBs are both on the wrong side of 30 and McKelvin has been a disappointment. Considering that they play the Patriots twice a year, not to mention how the NFL is becoming more and more pass happy every year, I think they'd be wise to invest in another CB in R2 or 3 this year. 3) WR Aside from Steve Johnson and perhaps David Nelson...and in spite of the preseason hype...this group isn't much. The rest are a dime a dozen. Factor in injuries and we're down to CJ Spiller as the 3rd WR. Ouch. As the season wears on, I think this is a position that will become more and more obvious as a point of weakness and the offense will suffer because of it. They could also use a quality TE prospect, like that will ever happen.
  3. I wouldn't be in any hurry to replace him. The only thing that's wrong with Fitz is that if he doesn't lead them to 30 points, they're probably not going to win. He's not a great QB, but he's still a good one, and if the Bills continue to build the rest of the team around him they can win with him.
  4. Well, I do think Spiller has a bit of an excuse so far this year. He's just not getting opportunities, which says less about how he's playing in this particular case, and instead more about Fred Jackson. Jackson is on pace to have about 2200 yards from scrimmage right now, and with production like that, its going to be difficult for anyone else to get on the field at that position, especially with the defense as bad as it is and the Bills being forced to pass more than run. There's certainly a real possibility he will never live up to expectations, but under the current circumstances, I think its way too early to give up on him.
  5. I'd have to say the Jauron era was the low point for me. In fact it was so bad that I still haven't recovered from it.
  6. I don't think it really matters that much. The Bills aren't exactly loaded with talent on offense and if they think Pryor can be an impact player at some point in the future, even if that means a year or two down the road, they can find a roster spot for him for now. Myself, I'd probably just keep two TEs instead of the usual three on the active roster, with a couple more on the practice squad in case someone gets hurt. I'm not sure they'd really be losing anything by doing that. I probably wouldn't offer up anything more than a 6th rounder.
  7. Welcome to the real world. While you may have the right to free speech under the Constitution, that doesn't mean that you're free of consequences for every idiotic thing you might happen to say. They have every right to terminate their endorsement deal with Mendenhall for his statements if, for instance, they feel his statement brings embarrassment to their company and could potentially hurt their business.
  8. North Carolina has had one of the better defenses in college football the last couple of years. In '09, they finished the year ranked 6th nationally, and even with all the suspensions, they still managed to finish 30th this year. Nine players from that team were selected this year, four in the first two rounds. The Bills weren't the only ones interested, apparently.
  9. Interesting...both he and Levi Brown played at the same high school.
  10. Its ridiculous, isn't it? We need more players from northern teams like Ohio State, Indiana and Penn State. That's worked out so well for the Bills in recent years.
  11. Its not like they really have a choice. Their secondary is on the verge of falling apart.
  12. Because Mike Mayock said he was a 4th round prospect, and Mike Mayock is infallible.
  13. #100 - TE Luke Stocker, Tennessee #122 - OLB Greg Romeus, Pittsburgh
  14. Drayton Florence has been a good stopgap for the Bills, but that's all he is at this stage of his career. He turns 31 later this year and probably has no more than a year or two left in the NFL. Terrence McGee looks like he's done. Whether anyone likes it or not, the Bills needed a long-term solution at CB. Mallett? Yeah, I think the Bills could live to regret that one, but he was passed over 73 times. We're not going to be the only ones who have to live with that problem a few years down the line.
  15. I think they've done a great job through three rounds. They got a potential All Pro 3-4 DE in R1, a first round talent to upgrade a depleted defensive backfield in R2, and a solid ILB prospect who excelled in the best division of the best conference in college football. I can't complain at all with what they've done so far.
  16. I'm thinking it'll be either OLB Sam Acho, TE Luke Stocker, or their top rated RT.
  17. I like the pick well enough. Lets face it, McGee is basically shot at this point and Florence is on the wrong side of 30. Sure, they had other needs, but they needed a quality CB prospect, too, and in the end, they got a very good one without burning their first pick on it as they have in the past. I can't complain.
  18. Outstanding pick. Best pick they've made in R1 in a long time.
  19. If they keep pick #3, I think they'll pick Gabbert. If they trade out, I think it'll be Cameron Jordan.
  20. Indeed, it is. They used to say that Peyton Manning couldn't win the big game, either. It didn't help that Tennessee won the National Championship the next year with Tee Martin at QB.
  21. I disagree. The guy was a winner at Arkansas in every sense of the word. He wasn't perfect, but if he'd have played any better, they'd have won a national championship. They went 10-3 in a division where five of the six teams ended the year ranked in the top 15 nationally. They were one of four teams in the SEC West with 10 wins or more and finished second in that division this year, behind Auburn but ahead of national title contenders Alabama and LSU (and they beat LSU in the regular season finale). They also beat Mississippi State and South Carolina, too, both 9 win teams. That's a hell of an accomplishment given one of the hardest schedules in the country. They've had only one other 10 win season since 1989, and that was in '06 with a completely different offensive coordinator (Gus Malzahn, who has since taken the circus show to Auburn), head coach and with Darren McFadden running the ball. You have to go all the way back to 1977 and the days of Lou Holtz to find an Arkansas team that won 11 games.
  22. Nah. He's Kyle Boller.
  23. I'm not in favor of taking Gabbert at 3 (although I think they will if they keep that pick), but after drafting Carrington and Troup last year, its really not a stretch to think that the Bills believe they can get significantly better against the run without using the #3 on defense.
  24. I'll go ahead and post my guess, just to show how wrong I'll be. 7) DE Cameron Jordan, California 34) DE Muhammad Wilkerson, Temple 45) OT Orlando Franklin, Miami 68) OLB Sam Acho, Texas 100) CB Brandon Burton, Utah 122) ILB Nate Irving, NC State 133) QB Pat Devlin, Delaware 169) RB Stevan Ridley, LSU 206) ILB Alex Wujciak, Maryland 245) CB Justin Rogers, Richmond I expect them to try to trade down if they can. In this example, I have them trading down to 7 with the 49ers and also acquiring pick 45. If the Bills can't trade down, I expect them to select Blaine Gabbert at 3.
  25. I think they're probably going to try to trade out of that spot, but if they can't, their pick at 3 will probably be Blaine Gabbert. At best, I have mixed feelings about that. I can understand the need for a franchise Qb, but I just don't see it with this guy (or Newton). Regardless, I hope they're smart enough to just concentrate on one side of the ball early rather than trying to balance their draft and spreading their resources too thin. They'd be better off with a defense-oriented draft this particular year, but if they do pick Gabbert, I hope they're smart enough to draft him some help in R2-4 at OT and TE.
