  1. I don't dislike Whaley, simon, and nor do i dislike rex. I just find it hard to believe that rex isn't behind this one because alonso is an odd fit for his d. I have faith in rex as a defensive coach, but it is the case that alonso is a very good player (plus i really like kelly). Whaley did draft Alonso (in tandem with Nix), and he got a ton of praise for it. And rightly so. It's human nature to not want to give up on a player who you picked and who is that good that early.

There is certainly an upside for the Bills because McCoy is good, but on balance i think the Eagles got the better of the trade (on paper at least). I think Alonso is a unique player who can do a lot of things that most lbs can't, but mccoy is a quality player too. If the bills had a chance to go to the sb in the next couple of years, it's a good trade, but they don't because of the qb situation. The mccoy trade reminds me of the dickerson trade - really good rb goes to a bad team and excels, and the team goes 9-6 and 9-7 before falling off the cliff again because the qbs suck. Or AP getting the vikes to the playoffs by the skin of their teeth a couple of years ago followed by the team tanking because they don't have a qb.

I do think mccoy is good, and i expect him to do well for a year or two. So it's not like i see it as all bad! The qb situation remains the same, however. This is all secondary to that issue.

what can he do that most linebackers can't do? What is unique about him? That he can't handle blockers?

  2. Let me ask this> did you ever notice how quickly Alonso moved to the play? almost before the snap. Very instinctive Kid. He was never going to shed/stack guards or centers. he would be best with running room. which is why they played him a step deeper from scrimmage

did you notice how often he was out of position, how often he was manhandled by blockers, how he had all his sacks, INT's , FF in the first 4 games and nothing after that. How our run defense was awful until someone replaced him.....

  3. If Rex actually does what he says he will do in building a power run offense, and a top defense then the Bills won't need a flashy gunslinger type QB! All they need is a guy who can manage the game, and move the chains when needed.

The foolish Browns gave up on 7-6 Hoyer, and signed a 1-10* bum in McClown. Cleveland after they played Buffalo last year lost the next four games to finish the year 7-9. Did i mention that those last four games were all against playoff teams in Indy, Cincy, Carolina, and Baltimore. This with Hoyer playing hurt after that Bills game. The last two years Brian Hoyer has gone 10-6 with Cleveland, and that is the best QB performance that team has seen the last 15 years.

Hoyer managed to play well without his best receivers most of the year as Josh Gordon only played in 5 games, and Jordan Cameron played in 9. Then neither one contributed very much last year. I think Hoyer is the best stop gap FA QB on the market, and it remains to be seen if he can develop further in a good offense with good coaching. That is provided the Bills actually do build a decent O line this season, as no QB will play well running for his life.

Therein lies the problem. We don't have a QB that we have confidence in to 'move the chains'. You make it sound so simple - just get first downs when we need them.

  4. To what end though? Why cut EJ? At worst, he's a solid backup, and his contract isn't anything to worry over from a salary cap perspective. I'm certainly not doubting Leroi (pbuh) but it doesn't make sense.

Actually, at worst he is a bad starter or bad backup that ruins whatever good might be happening with the rest of the team. Just wanted to clarify what 'worst' means.

  5. I just don't understand all the excitement for an oft injured QB? What has Bradford actually accomplished in the league? I, for one, want no part of Bradford. I'd have to have a defibrillator stationed near me every time he took a sack!

The excitement is that he is potentially available, and the fact is much good is still expected of him around the league. Jeff Fisher seems to want him back, that's good enough for me. I think Fisher is an excellent coach, if he thinks Bradford is good enough to start for him, he's good enough to start for us.
