Link to Tasker belongs in the HOF

I thought that was Tim Brown?

My favorite memory was watching him arrive at Dion Sanders with the ball and put him down immediately. They sat facing each other and just reached out and shook hands, acknowledging each other as the best. That show of mutual respect is rarely seen today.

    It was Tim Brown

  2. I remember one play vividly with the exception of who we were playing. He was covering a punt as the gunner, he came down the field in a blaze of fury and laid a lick on the returner just as he caught the ball. It has to be one of the hardest hits I have seen in football to this day. What was so awesome was that he hit the guy so hard he never hung on to the ball. We recovered as scored a TD.

    Big Pappy

There was a game against the Rams, home opener I believe, the punt returner was cut by the Bills and did some talking. Tasker leveled him on the first punt. That might be the play you're referring to. Vernon Turner was the victim.

  3. Well Rex has always had top 10 defenses. He has always relied on the Ground and Pound. HIs former GM's got too reliant on Revis so when he left their secondary caved.

Rex has always had issues with QB's. It could be his fault or the GM's. I get the impression that Rex tends to stay out of personal and just coaches what he has. I think this is why Whaley/Rex get along for the most part. Whaley is the GM and responsible for obtaining players that his coaches require. He obviously collaborates well. This is why Doug Marrone and Doug Whaley came into conflict. Marrone wanted more control over personal like he had in college. It doesn't work that way.

Not sure this is totally accurate, he had some very good success with Sanchez for a few years. Success that we would be thrilled with for the next couple years.

But the Jets players still held Rex in high regard.

His bluster can get old, but right now it's so refreshing after having St. Doug basically call everyone garbage and view the job as below himself. I don't think Rex will have a problem getting buy in from the team, it seems like everyone has massive chips on their shoulders, even guys they brought in like McCoy and Harvin who've proven their abilities elsewhere.

Not that they were similar in any way, but I remember some fans getting tired of Marv's personality too, I think it's natural, unless, or sometimes even if your are successful for people to want something different, we are impatient and often see the grass is greener on the other side.

  5. Slower, shorter, lighter and physically weaker than the blockers double-teaming him, Tasker used his mind and his will to beat them cleanly, essentially every time. He blocked kicks with regularity, or at least that's how I remember it. These days, "coverage specialists" are pretty common, and more valued all the time. They had to change a rule or two to reign him in. Think about that. Isn't it time Steve Tasker gets inducted into the Hall of Fame? Is anyone who matters actively lobbying for him these days? Any thoughts or memories to share about plays he made? I can think of a few beauties covering punts, including a delightful shoe-string tackle of Dion Sanders in his prime. Pretty sure Sanders lost yards on the return.

A couple plays stand out - against the Raiders, Tim Brown, at the time the best punt returner, tripped him up for no gain after the catch, Brown shook his hand on the great play. I think the 2nd Raider playoff game, took a line drive , short kickoff , fielded it cleanly and ran it back to inside the 10.

I was at the Meadowlands sitting with Jets fans when Tasker made a great play, the Jet fan sitting next to me said, I love that guy, he's a monster.

He was great, should be in the Hall.

    From the first link:

"Henderson was a seventh-round draft pick from Miami who, in the eyes of the Bills’ previous coaches, was the most talented member of the line. Ryan’s predecessor, Doug Marrone, had pretty much privately decided during the middle of last season that Henderson would move to left tackle this year and Glenn likely would shift to left guard.

That still could happen, although Ryan and Kromer are first trying to sort out the situation at tackle, which includes the possibility of Henderson and Glenn trading places in order to have the team's two best players at the position on the field and take advantage of Henderson’s superior pass protection skills on the quarterback’s blind side."

I don't see how anyone who watched Seantrel Henderson play last year could decide he would be best moved to LT and kick Glenn inside to guard.

    Anyone beside Marrone that is

Where and when did Henderson demonstrate "superior pass protection skills on the QB blind side"? From this thing at NFL.com his college starts appear to be exclusively at RT.

Is Vic Carucci worth anything as a reporter? Shouldn't reporters ask those sorts of questions?

I just made the same comment on the BN article link. Henderson was not good last year.

  7. I think thurman is #1 just because OJ was talented, but he clearly sucked later in his career. This was him falling off the cliff early due to overplay, but also due to not having an epic oline. He was basically demarco murray, good player, but legendary oline. Thurman didnt really have that. That might be an oversimplification, but, idk. Tinker Bell ought to be somewhere on this list. he was pretty good when healthy

OJ was a special player. Thurman was tremendous and deservedly in the HOF, but from a running standpoint, I'm biased, but I've still never seen a more graceful, fast runner than OJ. It was amazing to watch him run. It seemed like he never got touched, sweep to OJ and watch him just pull away from everyone.

  8. Maybe a fun exercise, but totally useless. So many factors go into this. Weather conditions, opponent, score, field position.... , every game is different. One game watkins may catch 10 balls, 2 the next, ...., if we're winning late, we will run more, losing we will pass more

  9. Am I the only person on board with no extending him until after or during this season? I think his stock is at an all-time high. Maybe a little less production this year will lower his price?

what if we just start signing all low end players, that should keep our cap way down. Or if we're really lucky, Bradham and Gilmore will have bad years too.

  10. I was the first to bring this subject to light. After posting the ideal I was lambasted and ridiculed. Since we have not been able to land any of the top o-line FA (have been trying), there has been plenty of media talk of the move. Cordy is a good left tackle, but an All-Pro guard. During the preseason Seantrel Henderson played much better at LT than at RT. With a year of experience under his belt the time to which is now. This year draft is stocked with talented o-line help. Cordy will make very good money as an all-pro guard as opposed to an ok left tackle.

Preseason doesn't count. Someone needs to explain to me why they thought Henderson played so well at RT that he could move to LT? He did not play well at RT. Watch the games.

  11.

And yes, as this is a recurring discussion, it is a possibility if both CK and Henderson step up. Seantrel had a terrible year, but great potential. I would feel much less comfortable with this plan for the first unit OL going into camp, but would be fine with this coming to fruition if they showed up big in camp.

I agree Seantrel had a terrible year, but I wonder where you see the potential? I guess everyone has potential, but he got worse as the season wore on, maybe new coach/system will help but I think the Bills are looking for a new tackle before another guard.

  12. Any way they're selling it, this is a bummer for out-of-town Bills fans. My family and I have zero interest in gathering 'round the ol' laptop or iPad for some football fun. Even if you go through a TV, streams are always unreliable, especially with events with moderate-to-high viewership. I don't care who the opponent is, this is going to be a crap experience and it doesn't have to be.

I'm an out of town fan and I don't see this as a bummer. It will be on HD on the NFL.com site. I will hook up my laptop to the TV and watch the game. I've done this before for preseason games from a much lesser website and had not experienced problems. I will wait til something goes wrong before I start to B word about it.

I just think that Cassel's ship has sailed in terms of being the guy you are counting on to be your season long starting QB. He's 32 and the last time he was counting on to be "the guy" and was successful in that roll was five seasons ago.

I think that he's probably moved on mentally from having that burning desire to be the starting QB. Once you've lost that, you're kind of done as a true starting QB if that is the case. That doesn't mean that he can't be good in a back up role and win a couple of games for your team if pressed into action. I think he fits that roll very nicely.

IMO, Matt Cassel as the Bills 2015 starting QB for the full season is like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. The only way I see Cassel starting over Manuel is if Manuel fails to show leadership which is possible. Bills players will be expecting EJ to bring the swagger and confidence this year. You can hear it all of their interviews. If he doesn't then the Bills will be forced to start either Cassel or Taylor.

Don't know why you think he's moved on from wanting to be a starter, everything he's said is that he wants to start, he was starting last year before his injury, and he's only 32, perfect age for a QB.

  14. Yea we always use the same criteria to judge starters and backups.... If we expand the field out to all 64 though, he's probably just about in the mix of average.i gue

what makes a good backup ? I understand the thought process, but basically, if he's not a good starter, chances are he's not a very good backup. If the expectations are incredibly low for backups, and it may be these days, then that might make him a good backup.

  15. Let's cut to the chase. Do you think that Cassel is a good starting QB? I don't. I consider him to be a good back up QB. That's a good role for him at this point in his career.

I think that right now EJ Manuel is a slightly better QB overall (not saying much I know), he's faster, more athletic, much more mobile and nearly as accurate as Cassel. The big difference is that Manuel is still developing and has a much higher ceiling (yes he has a lower floor too, but that's why they brought in Cassel). It stands to reason that Manuel will be better this year. If Cassel were a "lights out" accurate passer with a 65% completion rate then I'd totally rethink my position here. But that's not the case. IMO he's a nice insurance plan for the Bills if Manuel either gets hurt or gets benched because he proves that he's not good enough to the current coaching staff.

If he could make the passes as a backup, why not as a starter? Same pass patterns , right? Same guy throwing the ball? He's probably both an average starter and average backup.
